I am a writer who does crossover.
I also set high expectations for my work. Since writing is essentially a hobby to me, the only reward I can reap from it is reviews. All stories in this website have their quality judged by how much reviews they have. Personally, I always to aim to have 1 chapter 100 reviews. Anything less and I will deem the story a failure. That’s how I assess my work.
A good story compels its reader to review. A bad one doesn’t. Simple. Since we don’t get paid for this, writers want review. It’s like drugs. Once you have ten, you want a hundred. And when you get a hundred, you want a thousand more. I believe that's what all writers in this website should aspire.
Of course, there are good stories that weren’t reviewed well enough and thus the writers were discouraged to continue. I do not expect readers to understand but it is what it is. Take note that I do not blame readers for not reviewing a story. If a story is truly well-written, it should compel the readers to write a review.
If you notice, my stories are unique in its premise. I choose not to explore ideas that others have done so. What’s the point, actually?
To me, a good story has a good punch in it. A good crossover can make readers awe. I have read stories that twisted the lore of the universe in a way that I do not find confusing, but inspiring. An Uzumaki Amongst the Dunes by pudgypudge was one of them. Of course, there are more that I couldn't remember right off the bat, but you get my drift.
Do I dislike any writers in this site? Yes, actually. Just one.
I won't mention names, but I'll reveal a little context. Probably 7-9 years ago, I was new to this site and became a fan of his work. Although his work wasn't great, his ideas were. So, like an enthusiastic reader that I was, I post a review, stating that it would be great to have him update his story asap as I was dying to read more. However, he mistook me and crudely responded with hate, saying that I should not usher writers. I was angry, because I was truly a fan of his work, but it was uncalled of him. So, I decided to write stories myself.
Fast forward in time, I have made quite a name of myself. I won't say I'm better than him in any extent. He is famous too, actually, for writing a plethora of unfinished stories. Like a lot, a lot of unfinished stories. Some of my readers scolded me for writing unfinished stories; boy, you have not seen anything like that yet. Stories that only contain 2-3 chapters and written without a care to the totality of the story. I think he took notice of me a few years ago when my story - Devil Game - became a huge success. Imagine my surprise when he actually posted a review on my story. Long story short, he mentioned that my work is a failure.
Do I still read his stories? Yes. I won't discriminate a story just because I dislike the writer. I won't stoop so low as to be what he was. Anyway, I am not surprise that he is receiving death threats. If he could be so rude to me all those years ago, I believe he has accumulated a huge list of enemies over time. Karma is a bitch after all. Oh well, I think I ranted off too much.
It's not like anybody will read this anyway.
I want to finish this off by saying this to my readers:
Thank you for supporting me all these times.
