Author's Update (10-11-13): Hey there! I know it's been a while since I've updated this profile. I know some people have me on an author watch and might get this update so I'm going to fill you in on what's been going on in my life. Since my mother's passing in March, I had a little bout of depression. Around mid-July though I had a little bit of a wake up call and got back on track with my life. I applied to Grad school and got accepted to my school of choice, so I am now an Graduate level Art therapy Student! I've finished one class and have started my second. I'm already looking for an internship as well!
In July I met an amazing guy and we've been dating for a couple months now. He got me into Game of Thrones and I'm slowly introducing him to Harry Potter...Yes, I know...*Gasp!* How can someone who's been writing HP Fan fiction for half a decade date someone who's never read or watched the movies?! Well, it's a challenge, but he's open to watching the movies and reading the books once he's done with the G.o.T. books.
In September, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. So I've been having a ton of Dr. appointments and such getting that all figured out. I've had to force myself to eat right and drop things out of my diet, like Mountain Dew (which I was thoroughly addicted too before...) but I'm slowly but surely getting myself used to eating healthier.
I started working with my brother, who has opened up a Computer Repair shop here in Minnesota. I work as the secretary/receptionist/service writer and have a fair amount of free time. So I've decided that when I'm at work, and not doing anything important, I have time to work on my story.
I'm happy to announce that I have chapter 68 finished. It just needs a final read through and then editing. I also have 69 and 70 completely outlined and 69 is even partially written. I have the end in sight! Finally! I have made the decision that I will not post anything until the final chapter is written and sent to Teufel for beta editing. I have the sequel to Surprise started in planning mode and that will not be posted until it's completed. I also have plans on going in and fixing up another one of my stories for a prequel to Surprise. This will probably take a long time, but I hope to have everything accomplished eventually.
It will take me a little while to get back into the swing of things and find time to write/edit. Be patient with me, please, I definitely appreciate those who've stuck with my story since the beginning. or those who have found my story recently, thank you for spending your time reading my words. Getting the reviews after my last post, of people saying how sorry they were about my mom's passing, and hearing the stories of people who have agreed to being donors or changed their minds about being a donor has truly made this all so much easier. Thank you, everyone!
Author's Update (5-23-13): Well, this is the first update I've done since last December. Almost 5 months to the day. I'm not really going to into it too much, but the reason I haven't been writing at all the last 4 months or so is because for January and February, my mom got much more sick and went down hill several times. Our lives were on a pretty scary roller coaster there for several weeks. Sadly, on March 2nd, about 12:30 in the morning my mom passed away. I'm super thankful that my whole family could be there the day that mom passed. We even had relatives from out of state get there in time to say their goodbyes. Mom's death has certainly been the most difficult thing I've ever had to deal with, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm taking some time to myself and not worrying about writing or really anything that isn't an immediate need (food, bills, etc.). I do plan on continuing my writing eventually. I've even thought up a great sequel idea for Surprise. I am writing short stories and one shots, or scene clips as I call them, that could either stand by themselves or be worked into the story somewhere, but I don't actually plan on posting anything at the moment. (It actually took me till last week or so to even start reading fan fiction again. The whole, Harry grieving for lost loved ones being a common theme was way to fresh for me to handle until now.)
This could change at the drop of a hat. I could wake up one day and be like, I need to write something and post it...now. But as of yet, I'm just not ready. Mom was probably my biggest 'fan'. She was constantly encouraging me to write more and congratulating me on new reviews or making a new record amount of Hits to my stories. She loved to brag about me (to my utter embarrassment). She didn't always read everything I wrote, but the binder with the first 50 chapters of Surprise is still sitting down on her dresser. She'd read a little here and there, but she wasn't a big fan of fantasy literature. She also always asked me if I planned on publishing something, and I'd have to explain why I couldn't publish my fanfics. I've read that JKR's biggest regret in life is not telling her mother about Harry Potter before she died...I've never understood that sentiment more than I do now.
I want to add that for everyone who sent PMs and reviews wishing my mom a happy birthday and get well wishes, she loved them. She was so happy to hear that she was getting prayers from all over the world it cheered her up so much. She was bragging to the nurses for days. Thank you so much to everyone who sent those messages. Even the few that I got after she had passed. (And for the people who added in the Congrats on Graduating for me, I actually wasn't expecting those so they were always a great pick me up.)
I'm working on finding a job at the moment and I'm applying for Grad school. Fingers crossed for those adventures to pan out easily and quickly. Thanks again for all the support I've been receiving. Please stick with me and keep checking for new updates. Remember, putting my story on an Alert, or even just putting me as an Author Alert, you'll get an email every time I post something (story or Author Update here on my profile) and you'll be the first to know I'm back. I'm going to continue searching job sites, playing with our puppy, Yoshi, and watching more YouTube videos than is probably healthy. OH, and learning Spanish on DuoLingo. (My user name is Hanno34.) The name of the game right now is healing and learning to live without my mom around. Luckily I still have my dad and many siblings (natural and 'adopted') plus a huge extended family to help with this.
Thank you everyone! You have no idea what it means to have this community behind me through these difficult times. Love you all!
Author's Update (12-28-12): Well, I hope everyone had a good holiday season! Mine was okay, perhaps a bit more stressful than usual since mom's spent the last month in the hospital. We all spent the holidays at the hospital with mom, and then driving around Minnesota to various family members houses. I think Christmas day I spent more time in the car than with family members.
I have finished my degree (I got 2 A's, 3 B's, and a C) and am now done with school for a year! So, what does this mean for my fan fiction? I plan on getting back into writing next week, beginning of January or so. I need to get a job as well, so that could cut into my writing time, but bills need to get paid. Growing up sucks...I wish I could go back to being a kid where I had no responsibilities aside from the occasional D.O.L. or math homework...Ookay, pity party over.
My mom is still pretty sick but she's getting closer to the transplant every day. Unfortunately, in order to get better, she has to get worse, even worse than she is right now I believe. Which is pretty damn sick, since she's been in the hospital for almost a month now in and out of the ICU.
I'm excited to get back to fan fiction. I miss posting stories and checking for new reviews, and talking with various people. I also miss reading stories. Not only have I not been writing anything for the last 5 months or so, but I haven't been reading them either! I seriously went through HP-withdrawal I think. But it may take me a while to get back into the swing of things, writing-wise. Gotta stretch out my typing fingers and tickle my imagination to get it working again. Give me time, and be patient. A new chapter will be up soon I hope.
Author's Update: Okay, cleaned up my profile a bit...Just to remind everyone my beta is Teufel1987. I've helped him out on his story for a while in return for his help, so everyone should check out his stories too.
Author's Oath: I solemnly swear that I WILL NEVER ABANDON MY STORIES!!! I swear on my...portfolio of art (seriously, 7 years of art school people...that's a big portfolio) that I will never, ever, ever, ever EVER abandon my stories. If they go on hiatus for a while, then there's usually a good reason.
Age: 27 (as of 2013)
Location: USA, Minnesota (no Fargo accent, sorry)
My personal email is:I check it every once in a while, its primarily an email for all my FF.net emails and google accounts. I do try to check it daily, but I often times forget...*shrug* oh well. If you email or PM me, I will eventually get it and reply. I will always reply.
My Twittah: If you want to follow my random ramblings on the Twitter-sphere, clicky on this linksy -->My Username is NinjaNerd007 and I am witty as hell. I will amuse the socks off your stanky feet.
My blog/forum website: I've had a few people interested in this recently and realized that I accidentally deleted the link to my personal blog/forum website. If I make blueprints for houses I design or photos I use for imagery, I post those photos. I also occasionally post a blog update on my life, but recently haven't been blogging much. If you want to chat with others or me personally about my stuff, here's the second best place to do this (first being fanfiction.net.)
Live Journal:I basically blog about anything really. On livejournal you can opt for a email update so when I post a new blog,. you'll get an email saying, "Ferret34 (my username) has posted a new journal entry! Click here to go see the entry!" I've been neglecting this blog site lately. If you're looking for the most updated "blogs" check this profile. I will almost 100% of the time, just post an Author Update above. You can tell by the dates when I posted an update.
My online Art Portfolio:! I am an art student before a writer. So, keep in mind, it's the beginning of a Portfolio. You can email me with any critiques and advice...I've actually gotten two phone calls from people who've seen this portfolio and wanted to tell me how much they liked my work...I was like, ZOMG I have fans!
If you ever want to add me on Facebook or Google, email or PM me and we'll chat. I usually add people I've talked to a bit.
Family: Mom (deceased), Dad, Sister, Brother-In-Law, Brother, Brother's Girlfriend, Sister, Sister's Boyfriend, and Josh (aka Storkbite)
Pets: Our newest addition to the fam is an Australian Shepard puppy named Yoshi. She's so freaking cute!!!
Car: A silver '99 Chevy Malibu. Bought at 67K miles for only $3100! She's mine all mine! Bought and paid for all by me! :)
School: In December 09 I finished my hard earned Associates in Fine Arts (Yay!) and moved on to a State University. I am now done with my Bachelor's in Fine Arts: Integrated Media (which is fancy-shmancy for photo, video, and computer arts). At the beginning of this "About Me" section is a link to my online Portfolio, check it out! I have recently started on my Masters in Art therapy at an Adlerian School.
Tattoo/Piercings: Yes! I have had my lip pierced for about 5 years now. And November 18th, 2009, right before going to the midnight showing of DH Part 1 I got a Deathly Hallows tattoo. Top of my left forearm, just below the elbow. See my blog site photo album for a pic if you want to see it! lol
Past times: reading, writing, playing Sims, Art (photography, painting, drawing, and computer arts are my faves; lately been getting into video as well.), sleeping, watching movies, and some video games. YOUTUBE!!! I am now highly addicted to Youtube...I think someday I might start a video blog. Maybe... Actually...Here is the Link to mychannel.
Favorite inventions: YouTube!, cameras, cardboard pizzas and the flush toilet…wow those last two just don’t go well together at all…

Television: Bones and Doctor Who are my truest tv addictions. Anything else I watch is usually whatever is on and I happen to look at the TV. I’m not much of a TV person I hate commercials so I usually watch shows online, or on DVD. I recently got into the Big Bang Theory...very funny show! Future plans: finish school, get into a career as an Art Therapist, start a family, get a house, get a good car, etc. (Not necessarily in this order, but I’d like to finish school before a family/kids)
Randomness: I’m addicted to Reeses candy. Anything Resses I will eat it. I sleep with 10, count em, 10 pillows on my bed! I can count to 10 in Spanish and French. I have a badge that says, “Why yes, I do write Fan fiction” I got from Anime Detour. I wear glasses. My eyes are my best feature. I sleep till 1 pm, then stay up till 4 am all the time if I don't have anything going on the next day (Which is rare now). I do cross stitch. I do believe in Fairies, I do, I do.
Now onto the Fan fiction!
My preferences: Harry Potter, some Twilight, and House of Night, really anything that’s written well.
Shipping: canon so HP/GW, RW/HG, DM/AG, LL/RS, NL/HA, RL/NT, and so on. I rarely read slash or ships other than what I’ve already stated unless its tasteful and really well written and not just because the author didn’t get their way in canon and spends their time bashing on Ginny or Hermione. I despise Harry/Draco, Hermione/Snape or a Marauder, Hermione/Draco, and Ron/Lavender. I can only stomach Harry/Hermione if Ron isn't in the picture, which I don't like anyway, so I rarely find one I enjoy.
Pet Peeves: [there's quite a few...these are only the tip of the iceberg.]
1] When authors put a/n’s in the middle of their fricken stories. A/N:’s go at the beginning or the end, and if I come across one in the middle (unless it’s noting where a different rating starts or ends) I exit out and find a different story. I don’t continue the story, and if it’s a crappy story anyways, I’ll review and tell the author what’s up.
2] Also, so many typos and grammatical errors that the reading is not easy flowing and hard to understand.
3] Mistakes in canon. I get if you're writing in your own universe, but seriously, at least spell the character's names, Spells, and locations from Canon correctly. It's not that hard to type it into Google and check your spelling.
4] I can't read a story that has Ginny 3 years younger than she's supposed to be and Harry is a woman. Nuh-uh, no way, sorry, you're gross. Changing stuff super drastically like that is just too weird for me.
5] Why does everyone have Luna reading the Quibbler upside-down? There was one article the first time we meet her where the image shows runes that spell something when you look upside down at it, but she doesn't read every article upside-down! This really frustrates me!
6] The next one is Time Travel or Marauder fics where Dumbledore offers Lemon Drops to everyone. He states in the first book that its a muggle candy he's grown fond of. When he offers one to Minerva she doesn't know what they are which I take as its a new candy for him. If he'd eaten them for years and offered them up as frequently as some people show him, I'm sure he'd have offered them up to Minerva before Voldemort's downfall. So I take it as a new candy for him that he enjoys...which means he wouldn't have offered them before 1981...okay rant over.
Fave Characters: Harry (of course), Ron, Ginny, Hermione, Draco, Snape, McGonagall, Fred and George, Luna, Bill, Arthur, Dumbledore, Neville, Remus, Sirius, Tonks, and Hagrid.
Fave Genre: I love humor stories and try to incorporate humor into my story as well. Angst stories are good too, if a story can make me tear up, awesome; if it can make me bawl (like Deathly Hallows) it’s a top notch story of the best caliber. I enjoy stories that have super!Harry or super!Any Good guy, unless it’s blatantly obvious and Harry doesn’t work for his power in some way. If he goes from one night normal to the next day super!Harry and doesn’t have to practice or anything, I don’t generally enjoy it (unless the powers are related to something like an illness or time traveling and body snatching a more powerful Harry). I recently got into a Dark!Harry story where he was raised by Voldemort but turns on him in the end! Wow! Great authors can do anything and make it awesome!
Guilty Pleasures: Snape adopts Harry fics...I can't help it. The really well written ones leave me feeling all tingly and warm inside. *mush* But the all time BEST Snape adopts Harry is Resonance and sequels by greengecko (I've linked to that page below).
Fave Canon’s in order: DH, OotP, HBP, SS, GF, CS, PoA.
My take on Canon and AU: I prefer canon stories though if the story is well written with a good plot and characterizations are right, I can enjoy AU stories as well. Once a person tries to combine canon with an AU, I get skeptical but I have seen some amazing stories out there that start out canon and drift AU, or vise versa.
Favorite FanFics: (before I had a tiny description of each story, but that takes up too much space, so check out the bio’s for yourself)
On Fan Fiction.net:
Resonance (and sequels) by greengecko
There are 2 stories I think everyone should read,by and Harry Potter, Heir of Gryffindor by Brent Braten (link is above). Both stories are enough to inspire people to write their own stuff as well as fan fiction. Both are expertly written and are very deeply, emotional and philosophical, and in the case of Antiquity Link, cultural. Antiquity Link now has a sequel too called by semprini and is just as freaking awesome as AL.
My stories: I get a lot of inspiration from reading others’ stories, so my stories might seem typical at first, but give them a try. Never judge a book by its cover and don’t judge it by a 120 word summary either. I stick to the book canon, I see interviews as a cheap way of saying, “This info wasn’t important enough to put in the book, but I still like it, or want attention.” (Ie: Dumbledore’s sexuality).
War POV’s is a one shot that takes place during the final battle in DH. It covers the point of view of several characters during several parts of the battle; Before, during, and after Harry is “dead” and paraded about by Voldemort. The story uses several direct quotes from canon. It’s my first story I’ve ever written and posted, and I would like to hear what people think about it.
Harry Potter and the Summer After (on Hiatus until further notice!) is a full length novel sized story, covering the summer after the war ends. It’s mostly canon based, but I do take a few liberties such as Harry won’t be joining the Aurors at age 17. It’s an emotional roller coaster since I enjoy humor, but it is primarily a recovery story. Very angsty. Hermione and the gang travel to Australia to retrieve her parents, while Harry brings the crew to America for his family. A sequel is planned for it, though it’s not even started being written.
Beautiful Little Monstrosity is a joke. You know those "quizzes" where you list a bunch of people and then are asked things like would 2 go out with 7? Yeah this story is a take off someone's answer to a very...questionable response to one of those questions. It's very...you just have to read it to the end...it's only 5 very short chapters and it ends well. I promise. Be prepared to have to wash out your brain for the images you will get. I would suggest a PG-13 rating for this one. DON'T READ UNLESS YOU ARE 13 OR OLDER!
Surprise! is a story where James and Lily actually lived that night...but spent 17 years in comas where no one but one person knew they were alive...Once Harry has defeated Voldemort he can awaken them again...It's a Post-DH canon compliant novel length story. It most likely will have a sequel eventually, once i finish the first story of HPatSA. I've been getting great reviews on this and more hits than the 200K word story...so, it must be good.
Promises is a one shot that takes place one year after the Final battle. It's central character is George Weasley. It has a couple flashbacks to points in the last year and special events, like the twins B-day with only George. It's mostly George visiting Fred's grave and thinking about the last year. There's also a letter from Fred written right after the shop is purchased. It's a very emotional story, but not sob worthy I think. It's got some humor and teary moments. Rated PG (for my own understanding I use American ratings) there is a bit of talk about Alcohol, but not overly abused alcohol. It's Post-DH canon compliant I tried to get it posted on May 1st, but was about 8 days late. I had to finish school first.
Please enjoy my stories, and please review! Reviews are motivation to write more, and I always respond to reviews even if it’s just a “thanks for reviewing”. Each review is like a little reward for me!
