Grrr. Only in a town this small would a father know when the high school dances were. (Pg. 81)
"You're angry," I sighed. "I shouldn't have said anything."
"No," he said, but his tone was hard as his face. "I'd rather know what you're thinking- even if what you're thinking is insane."
"So I'm wrong again?" I challenged.
"That's not what I was referring to. 'It doesn't matter'!" he quoted, gritting his teeth together. (Pg. 185)
"That suits me," he replied, his face relaxing into a gentle smile. "Bring on the shackles- I'm your prisoner." But his long hands formed manacles around my wrists as he spoke. He laughed his quiet, musical laugh. He'd laughed more tonight than I'd ever heard in all the time I'd spent with him. (Pg. 302)
He wasn't having that. He curled me into a ball against his chest, holding me more securely than iron chains. I glared at his in alarm, but he seemed well in control, his jaw relaxed as he grinned, his eyes bright only with humor.
"You were saying?" he growled playfully.
"That you are a very, very terrifying monster," I said my sarcasm marred a bit by my breathless voice.
"Much better," he approved.
"Um." I struggled. "Can I get up now?"
He just laughed. (Pg. 345)
