Rest in Peace Monty Oum. 2/1/15. Never before had I latched onto a work quite so hard as RWBY. Something closer to home, something I could follow, something I could contribute to, even if just a little as a fan. It means something that his illness and subsequent passing actually spurred me to take any sort of action. It wasn't a question of would I say something, it was what would I say? It wasn't would I donate to his medical bill fundraiser, it was how much could I afford? As a content creator, his work inspired me. As a fan of RvB, and then especially RWBY, I was happy to find such an awesome fandom and desperately wanted to be a part of it. I was just about done with fanfiction, but RWBY was one last thing I needed to be a part of. It almost feels silly, or just wrong, that it has affected me this much. I didn't know Monty, I only really knew that he was the genius behind RWBY. I feel it is that I just so badly wanted to be a part of something, and I so badly needed a goal in my life. I won't go into detail here, but Monty and his work on RWBY gave that to me. I wish you could have known, but the fact is I'll always be grateful. Thanks man. Though I hardly knew you, I'll miss you.
My Fics: (1/11/17) [So I mentioned I had three goals last time. How am I doing? Errrrrr... The RWBY collections stalled out. The big RWBY fic is still in development hell so to speak, and instead of working on my novel I'm writing a sequel to Violent Hearts that should have been finished six months ago. Well fuck. Um, yeah, that's about it... Oh well, new year, new attempt at a new me? I'mma try real hard guys!]
Violent Hearts: This is the first long fic I've ever written to completion, based on the anime/manga Sekirei. The canon material is basically a fan service story to be honest, but the story has more to it then most fan service works. Not on the level of more serious series I'll be quite honest, but it gave me something to work with. I wrote this fic with a much more serious, emotional tone than the canon material.
The Retcon: All the details
Sukaime Art: My First Attempt
(I know these don't work. Links on this website are all broken... sorry D: Out of my hands.)
Violent Echoes: A sequel to Violent Hearts, as the name suggests.
How She Vanishes: A short RWBY story about everyone's favorite mute.
RWBY Project: When Violent Hearts is done I'm gonna put out a RWBY fic. It's already in the works, though progress has taken five steps back since I decided I needed to rewrite things. First chapter is done though, so... we'll see?
RWBY Romance Collections: SHIP ALL THE TEAM RWBY SHIPS! There will be a few of these, each with semi-clever names based off the ship. Gonna try to update one of them every Friday! Preferably in order.
Makings of a Hero: My first true success. The story is what if an OC character of mine took Naruto and Sakura from the village to train them. But there's more to it than that. Itachi doesn't slaughter his clan, and is the main villain of the story along with his clan.
Nine Tails, Eight Powers, One Demon: This fic is at heart, a comedy. This is about what would happen if the Kyuubi bonded with Naruto and gave him 8 powers, one for each tail but one. One power was lost due to the Kyuubi exerting itself to heal him after Naruto got Chidori'd at the Valley of the End. However, it's more than that. The Kyuubi is extremely OOC(Out Of Character) and annoys the piss out of Naruto constantly. And I've exaggerated the other characters as well. For example, Sakura is more emotionally challenged than ever, constantly arguing with her inner self over what she is really feeling deep down inside. And Hinata... well... you'll see. However, if you're not for constant tomfoolery and whatnot, relax, there are a few serious moments scattered around here and there. There is a plot.
Voices: In this Naruto begins hearing voices. I took it as a challenge.
The Gate: This fic is about what would happen when hell pretty much cracks open and lets a bunch of nasty, nasty stuff loose in Naruto's world. What is the nature of these beasties? What are they planning? How can they be put back? Can they be put back? Naruto's gonna find out that, and a lot more. He's gonna need a lot of help though.
Stay With Me: A fic about two sisters and their complicated lot in life.
Back off Naruto and Bleach. The new king (queen perhaps?) is here! Seriously though, I love RWBY to death. I don't exactly know why, but perhaps it's just that RWBY finally let me just go all out and embrace being a goddamn geek/nerd/whatever. I just let it draw me in and got addicted. It's rough around the edges, but it's still great. It did one of my favorite things, something only things like Star Wars had done for me in the past. It made a template, a big world, where people like me could go wild. You could make a character, imagine a story, think of something awesome and for a moment just join in on the fun.
In more detail, RWBY is a story, a 3D anime you could say, made by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth. In Texas. Yes, the state located in America. As someone who lives in America, that's pretty awesome. Got something damn cool, and it's local. RWBY is about a girl named Ruby, a huntress in training. With her special weapon and powers fueled, as far as we know, by her aura (life force of some sort), she trains to hunt monsters. Because she's so damn good at it, she gets to go to Beacon Academy, a sort of college/university for Huntresses and Huntsman like herself, two years early. That means she gets to go with her older sister Yang and two others. That's where my little summary ends. Just go watch it and form your own opinion! DO IT NOW!
Yang: She's hot, she's yellow (one of my favorite colors), and she's tough as nails. Also, she reminds me of a super saiyan, and I was on a bit of a DBZ kick when I saw the Yellow Trailer. She's also a good person to top it all off. And punny.
Ruby: Our main girl Rubaby. She's just so damn cute. And fast. And scythe-y.
Weiss: I hated her a bit at first, but she grew on me and took spot 3 in my favorites by the end. She's also cute, tries really hard to fit in, and I totally ship her with Ruby... but I suppose I'll live if that's not canon.
Neo: She's pink, a little crazy, and she already won me over despite not saying a word. She'll wreck you with a smile on her face without breaking a sweat. Seriously though, guys, she doesn't REALLY need a voice actor, does she? Come on, she's fine the way she is!
Blake: (SPOILER!) Cat girl! A bit too... gloomy though. However, she currently has arguably the most character development, and I really like cats, so she still about ties for fourth place, perhaps beating Neo since Neo is totally underdeveloped in terms of character right now. Also, that one scene with the dog... you know what I'm talking about. Kekeke.
Nora: Hammer. Of. God.
Naruto: . . . I made it all the way to the last chapter, only to f*ing ctrl-w my way out 3 pages in. Maybe I'm overreacting, probably am, but... just... ugh. I suppose I should have seen it coming. Felt very sloppy.
Bleach: This is just getting weird...
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya:
Lucky Star: (from the makers of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya!)
OK, so Sekirei is an ecchi manga, no doubt. It, the anime at least, is made by the same people who created Ikkitousen (which may make this list if I find the motivation) and the abomination known as Queen's Blade (don't watch that shit, the boobs aren't worth it!). As it turns out the anime HORRIFICALLY PALES compared to the manga, so maybe that's no surprise. Ikkitousen stopped being good after a while and I already said my piece on Queen's Blade. Just stick to the manga, seriously. The artwork in the manga is SOOOO much better, and the anime just outright derails in season two and completely changes the plot for no explicable reason.
It's basically about aliens who look perfectly human known as, you guessed it, Sekirei. Sekirei is Japanese for Wagtail, an adorable species of bird. I have no idea what that has to do with anything. They bond to humans titled Ashikabi via a kiss, and then follow them with almost unfailing loyalty and devotion (jealous yet?). When this happens a Sekirei gains a seal in the shape of a bird (A wagtail bird... maybe?). As you may have guessed, about 98% of Sekirei seem to be women, with only three known male Sekirei appearing in the entire anime/manga so far if I remember correctly. So is it more than just your average ecchi/harem manga? Hell yes. It's funny, hot, violent, and at times heart wrenching. This is no story that relies solely on breasts, ass, and gratuitous panty shots, though it has all of those in abundance. It may be a little confusing when they start trying to explain things more later on, but you can tell it's deeper than it may first appear. However, this is not for the especially faint of heart as some of these eye poppingly attractive women will sadly be "terminated." As I said, it's violent at times, for Sekirei are designed to fight and kill. I recommend it, and I recommend the manga for the art work is better and the story is told better since it is how the story is originally meant to be told, straight from the manga artist's mind.
WARNING: The manga shows some nudity, though as with all previous ecchi recommendations, nothing nasty. Just some boobs. Last I knew, the anime is censored, so long as you don't watch a DVD release which has been uncensored. So far, the only way I know of to watch the anime uncensored is through Netflix (Now with the original Japanese voices and English subs!). So if you want it uncensored, just read the manga, but if you want it censored and don't mind the story playing out differently, the anime may be for you.
Benitsubasa: She has pink hair, and I've become a sucker for that. She's a villain, however, as a Sekirei, she's adorable when she starts gushing over her Ashikabi. Sorry dear, but I think he might be... gay. (Bonus, despite being a villain, things didn't end too terribly for her!)
Hikari/Hibiki: Sisters who have very revealing outfits and shoot lightning. That's just awesome. Sure, Hikari has a short temper, but it's funny to watch her apologize afterward. It's also funny watching them deal with their dickish Ashikabi, Seo. If only they had more screen time...
Matsu: OK, now that I look more closely, Matsu is probably Minato's most attractive sekirei and she's bloody hilarious. She gets winged early on and her name isn't revealed until the chapter she's fully introduced and winged so she's not too spoilery to list.
(Spoiler!)Kazehana: Minato's second to last sekirei. She has the largest proportions, which would usually be a turnOFF for me, but she's actually pretty funny, and she's the most mature of all of his sekirei when she gets serious, so I DO find her maturity (both physically and emotionally) attractive. However, when she's not being serious she can be outright silly. She's a hopeless romantic.
So a while back I finally gave into the hype and checked it out. Sometimes the fanservice is a bit over the top, since I don't consider this to be an "ecchi" series, but eh, it's not necessarily a "bad" thing... most of the time. Sometimes it's a little out of place. It's a little predictable at times, but it's for the most part a fun read as long as you don't take it too seriously. Also it has the added bonus of not yet pissing me off the way Naruto and, to a lesser extent, Bleach have lately... here's hoping that continues.
Also, they, for the most part, give all the characters a chance to look good. It doesn't suffer from DBZ syndrome where it usually boils down to just Goku (or instert MC here) saving the day.
Juvia: She's just cute.
I'll flesh this list out later... if I feel like it.
Kill La Kill:
It's a crazy anime with lots of boobs (no nudity at all though, well lots of partial, but... you know what I mean), lots of fighting, a good deal of blood, and a ton of... comedy? In many ways, it's more comedy than action. The last two or three episodes get pretty messed up though. However, unlike other stories with blood and death, it didn't depress me and the ending was quite happy for the most part. One little caveat, but I won't spoil it. So what's it about? Clothes. And scissors. And murder. And... just... yeah it's a bit weird, you should just go watch it if it sounds like it could be your thing.
Ryuko: Our man gal. Yep, MC is female! She's pretty cool, if a bit dumb like many MCs tend to be. Not painfully so, for the most part, though.
Nonon: Another girl with pink hair in one of my lists. Yep. Her voice is a LITTLE grating, but she's pretty cool otherwise. Also she's just damn cute.
Satsuki: She's... uhhh... bad ass? That's about all I can say without spoilers. She's quite the complex character though.
Senketsu: Ryuko's school uniform. No, you read that right. Like I said: clothes. Anyway... I like his voice. No, seriously, I just do. Does that make me weird? Again, can't say more cuz spoilers.
A very different, strangely paced, but very enjoyable anime. Occasionally confusing, but you'll always understand the current arc by the end of it. There's clearly more to the overall story, but later seasons will cover that (I hope). I... errr... well... I can't say much more without spoiling things, but basically over a series of a few episodes (2-3) Koyomi Araragi solves supernatural issues plaguing the girls he runs into, usually with the help of this other guy.
Favorites: (So far, I like ALL of them, but...)
Araragi, Koyomi: Arararagi (lol). He's probably my favorite male MC ever. He's just... so... silly, but cool at the same time.
Hachikuji: She flubbed it. No, really.
Senjougahara: She's fucking insane, but, when it matters, she's pretty damn cool. Also a goddamn tease and a half.
A sequel to Bakemonogatari, focusing on Koyomi's sisters.
Favorites: (Same as before, but...)
Shinobu: She had only one significant scene that I can recall in the previous season, though she was pretty damn cool in it. This time, though, she rocketed herself up into my all time favorite character list. Plus, she's an adorable blonde loli, the only thing that can compete with my pink hair fetish. She's just so cute and funny and bad ass.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure:
The name is... oh so very accurate. It might seem silly at a glance, but damn is it one bloody ride. People die. A lot. That said, it is still pretty funny and lighthearted. And fabulous. And manly. But not gay. Well... there is one part... but...
Also, the vampires don't sparkle too much.
Joseph Joestar: He's the best Joe, imo.
Caeser Zeppeli: Joseph's fabulous, fabulous friend.
Polnareff: Fellow Frenchman and the most vibrant of the characters in part 3.
Iggy: Fucking asshole dog. Just a fucking asshole. But he has his moment to shine.
