Author has written 1 story for Harry Potter, and Circle of Magic.
I’m a firm believer that writing is a cycling process. It doesn’t have an exact start point or end point; it simply exists, and it evolves constantly alongside the writer. My most personal example of this is a shift in writing I went through in my time since joining FanFiction. Once, I wrote solely because I wanted to read, but now I write with different motives in mind and it’s entirely changed the way that I handle words.
Back in ‘08, I woke up one morning with the idea for a story. This idea became The Student Exchange Program. As my first (and currently only) fic on this site, it has a special place in my heart and my concept for it is often hovering at the back of my mind, although it's been years since I last updated it. What happened is that I hit a roadblock with the fic and decided to try focusing my energy elsewhere, dabbling in different writing formats, until eventually I opened up a file of my old work to realize that the way I thought about writing itself had changed completely. That was also the moment in which I realized that it wasn’t going to be easy to come back to TSEP. Rereading my old notes for it, the angle I approach writing with now is in stark contrast to the way I did originally, and it was nigh impossible for me to simply continue adding on chapters from where I had left off. For that reason, I’ve put TSEP on an indefinite hiatus while I strip it down and chip away at slow edits and rewrites.
I would never be where I am today with my writing if I hadn’t once been where I was as a brand-new writer, and it’s largely a nod to that history which has motivated me to continue working on TSEP. This writing project, no matter how reticent it’s been, still feels very much alive for me. I refuse to let myself leave it uncompleted. No guarantees on how long it will take, but if nothing else, rest assured I’ve every intention of being able to one day post for you my new version of it. One day.
But in the meantime towards that One day, I continue reading and writing, and the cycle continues on. I sign into FanFiction periodically to peruse the various sections and leave reviews, and do some informal editing/beta work on the side as well. Additionally, I’m on the administrative team at www . rmimagic . com, a Harry Potter-themed text roleplay that is focused on developing writing; I’d strongly recommend it to anyone interested in expanding their writing skillset, even (and perhaps most especially) if you haven’t done creative roleplay before, as it’s a pretty unique way to interact with other authors and learn about your own writing at the same time. Outside of the Internet, I write original fiction. And I also churn out a load of research papers, being an Anthropology major at university.
Eh, I reckon this is enough of my life-story-as-a-writer for now. Thanks for checking out my profile; I appreciate it! Always here & happy to chat if you ever feel like dropping me a line.
But, hey, until we meet again - ha det bra, pobachymos', and happy writing! Skål!
