Author has written 8 stories for Stargate: SG-1, and Stargate: Atlantis.
August '09 Update: I apologize for how long it is taking to get new chapters to you guys. I am finding very little time to write these days. Wish me luck in carving out some time! Staying up late nights is NOT working for me right now...
UPDATE: November 2011 ... I think of my writing here often, and I still dabble a little. But I have so little uninterrupted time between managing a retail store and raising my son ... very little writing gets completed any more. Know I think of you guys and your lovely reviews often, and I hope to eventually start completing chapters again someday. Eventually. :) I've read every review, even if I don't have time to log in and reply.
Hi, Sapphtastic here. First and foremost, I imagine my username to be pronounced "saff-ta-stick." I admire the ancient Greek (female) poet, Sappho. I think she was fantastic. Voila. Sapphtastic.
In an alternate reality, I would live in an airy, modern urban loft somewhere coastal, gazing out at the water while I while away the hours writing professionally. In this reality, I have a husband, a super-duper five-year-old son, a dog, and a cat. Thus I live on 3.8 rural acres of land near Portland, Oregon, and rarely have time to write unless I forgo sleep. (The sacrifices we make for family, eh?) The city is no place to raise a child, says I.
I am the daughter of a poet/English professor. It has taken me a long time to even attempt to write for fun. When your mother has a Masters in writing, you tend to believe writing is Serious Business. I am enjoying writing in the world of fanfiction, and am even more excited by the prospect of writing a "real" novel someday. In the meantime, I practice here.
I have long been reading fanfiction, since the early days of the Lord of the Rings fandom. (Well, early for me, anyway. I'm too young to have participated in the original fandom of the books when they were first published. I wonder if there was fanfic...?) Alas, I am too well-versed in the Tolkien book canon to even attempt to write LoTR fanfic. I wish I either (a) had more time to become MORE well-versed, and attempt to write a story, or (b) was more ignorant, and didn't care over whom or what I trampled on my way through a sexy!legolas fic. But since I'm neither here nor there, I shall be writing in other fandom. (PS: boz4PM's LoTR fics rock my socks!)
I do find myself well-versed in the Stargate canon. So look here for stories to come from both Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis. (And Stargate Universe, if it doesn't suck. PS: FIE ON YOU, PTB, for not bringing LORNE over to SGU!) A word of caution: I am a canon whore. You shall not find Jack/Sam secret!sex season 4 stories here unless they take place in an alternate universe (oh how I love sci-fi). I am a Jack/Sam shipper, but I don't believe either of them would knowingly break frat regs to be with each other before she was out of his direct chain of command. Period, end (or beginning!) of story.
Pet Peeve: The misuse of the word "decimate" by practically everyone alive. Decimate, from the Latin decimatus, past participle of decimare, from decimus tenth, from decem ten. It literally means "to reduce by one tenth." Back in the day, before bombs and automatic machine guns, to reduce your opponent's army by one tenth would be an incredible blow. Today, the word decimate is instead used interchangeably with the more appropriate "annihilate" which means "to reduce to nothing." You don't decimate a planet, you annihilate it. If, however, the Wraith attack and carry away 1/10th of the planet's population, you would say they were decimated. /rant
Have a lovely day.
