Poll: Who should Ron be paired with for my What a Difference series? As JK herself has admitted that pairing him with Hermione was a mistake. Vote Now!
Author has written 13 stories for Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Legend of Zelda, Fable, Diablo, Foyle's War, Discworld, and Addams Family.
I am a 28 year old postgraduate of the Australian Maritime College in Launceston. I've always loved reading and have had a vivid imagination since I was a kid. I'm not always happy with some of the endings in books and movies as well as games, hence the reason I love this site as there's usually a story which covers the way I think a plotline should have gone. If there is no story then I like the site as you can upload your own take quickly and display it to the whole world.
Favourite Harry Potter Pairings:
All of these have potential for good fanfiction and I would dearly love to see some soul bond or marriage contract fics for some of these other than the big two, (Hermione and Ginny).
Least favourite Harry Potter pairings:
Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy (he's an evil bastard, come on. Yes people can earn forgiveness but he would need to stand in front of an AK to do it at least)
Ginny Weasley/ Draco Malfoy (Same reason as above.)
Harry Potter/Cho Chang (She has no spine and Harry needs a strong witch, and she sticks up for a traitor who sold them all to Umbitch.)
Harry/Pansy (Ick, no way, she's practically a female Draco Malfoy.)
Pet Fanfiction Peeves:
Bad Grammer, nobody expects perfection but polish really helps build a good story.
Dark Harry fics, the whole point of the series was good vs evil and Harry was Voldemort's polar opposite.
Insane bashing fics, these get a bit old after the first 20 or so.
Modernizing of works set in particular time periods e.g P&P, LoZ, Harry Potter: I swear, people only ever do this so that the main characters can listen to bands around at the time or use technology which is completely out of context for the story in it's original form. It can work for crossovers where the two are set at different times, e.g. Harry Potter/Thor, but more often than not the fics that result are completely a waste of time.
Wall of text, or bunched up text, this makes it really hard to read and follow what's going on. For best results use 1.5 line spacing which is the standard for most universities.
Types of fics I'd love to read but can't find anywhere:
A complete copy of the Narnia's New Age series, this was the best fic ever written on this site without question. But it was suddenly deleted when the author had computer trouble and their profile got deleted.
A Harry/OC sister of Draco, the Shakespearean parallels of forbidden love would make for an instant classic
A fic where some or all of the adults realize they're being complete idiots about the prophecy and make Harry's life easier by helping him out early.
A multi-pairing/harem fic which doesn't descend into page after page of PWP and where there's a good reason why Harry, or the male in question needs so many women. I really love well written lemons and think the site admins are total prudes to remove them. But like cooking, too much citrus can make the fic taste sour and ruin the resulting dish.
Update: 12/8/12: To all my fans, sorry about my inactivity for ages, but exams and real life have prevented me from posting up as much as I should have, but now I'll try and get some more up as soon as possible. Part 2 of what a difference is ticking along nicely and I posted the first 2 chapters today, but I'm a bit stuck on Beyond The Pale as I'm trying to think of a good crisis for Link and Zelda to face, so if anybodies got any suggestions, PM me and I'll start a poll on the best alternatives.
Update: 13/4/2013: Hooray, I've finally finished the 2nd part of my what a difference series, I hope everyone liked reading it as much as I did writing it. I know my latest major twist wasn't universally popular, but nothing ever is on this site so thus is the price of experimentation as I was aiming for originality with it. I will be editing and replacing some of the chapter files from part 1 & 2 and will start writing part 3 when that's done.
Update: 22/4/2013: At last, my editing on what a difference, parts 1 & 2 is finished, this should have cleared most of the errors in them. I will begin writing part 3, look out for it in the near future. I hope people like it as much as parts 1 & 2.
Update: 23/4/2013: I have now released the first chapter of part 3 of what a difference, I can't garantee that updates will always be this quick so enjoy it while my muse is cooperating. I have also released my poll on the role of the wickham type villian, I will accept votes for the whole time I'm writing part 3, so why not leave a vote when you review Elizabeth's latest adventures.
Update: 11/9/2013: I have started a new story, anybody who likes Fable 3 should check it out, I will be updating what a difference soon, sorry about the delay, but real life has a habit of getting in the way of the muse.
Update: 13/10/2013: I've finally finished part 3 of my What a Difference series which totally warped the whole idea of what I originally planned for the series, now that's finished I'll finish off Princesses, Redcoats and Revolutionaries before I begin part 4, so stay tuned in the next few months. Victor Krum won on the villain poll so he will play that part in making the path to true love not run smooth for Lizzie.
Update 5/5/2014: Despite my previous plans, I ended up writing part 4 of What a Difference which I finished this afternoon. I've also issued a writing challenge recently in order to help spice up the marriage contract scenario, might have a go at it myself in the near future so stay tuned.
Update 9/6/2014: I've recently began writing part 5 of What a Difference owing to a wider audience appeal than some of my other unfinished fics . I still might get around to working on those in the future but for now, What a Difference takes priority.
Update 18/10/2014: My apologies for a lack of updates for What a Difference, don't worry I have not abandoned it and will be finishing it in time. I just needed to take a short break as other commitments forced me to slow down on my writing. To get back into fan fiction writing I've just begun a new fic based on the Diablo series based on an idea I had recently while playing Diablo 3, so if you're a fan of that series I would be pleased if you checked it out and let me know what you think.
Update: 19/1/15: What a Difference Part 5 is now finished and I will begin the sequel soon enough, once I finalise the details of the plotline. It seems I still have a problem with people flaming me over part 1 years after I finished posting that work which is still as bloody annoying as when I got the first one. I will say this only once, read the fic in context with the rest of the series and maybe you might see why I made it so similar. Anybody who flames me will be blocked on the first offence with no exceptions.
Update: 7/6/15: I have decided to delete Beyond the Pale, sory to those who were waiting for me to get back to it but it wasn't getting anywhere and it seemed sad to just leave it there unfinished. Besides, I have a new idea for A Link/Midna post TP fic which I will soon begin to post. Part 6 of What a Difference is ticking along and so fans of the previous fics should check it out.
Update 28/10/16: The admins took down the entire What a Difference Series, without any warning. If they're so keen to ruin our fun then people should take their fics elsewhere. If I find a better website without interfering admins I'll put them up there sometime in the near future.
