Hello, welcome to my profile!
Let's get started with this: I don't publish my own fanfics, since I have an awful habit to start writing but I never finish my stories, and I won't ever publish a story that won't be finished. Circular reasoning much? This profile was created for me to review and keep tabs on my favourite fanfics.
inermis - a story of a critic
I'm a total omnivore, so I read everything from yaoi and torture to sweet, humorous family-centered fics. Only things that turn me off are cramped texts without decent paragraphing and Mary/Marty Sue characters. It's alright if one wants to create a flawless character (even I have done so, I hate to admit), but there's no enjoyment for me as a reader when a character is a boring invincible hero. I like it when characters struggle, either with romance or adventure, and I can cheer for them.
As a reviewer I am, depending on my mood, either an over-excited fangirl without anything constructive to say or I'm analytical and sometimes (a bit too) harsh critic who focuses on the plot (holes) and characters. I always appreciate clever use of literary devices and plot structure with a good climax. For obvious reasons, I don't nit-pick about English language, but if even I can point out plain spelling errors, your beta hasn't done his/her job seriously.
I don't review every single fanfic I read; I'm a lurker by nature. If I stopped by to write a review of your story, it means it had some quality, good or bad, that made my normally aloof self to take action.
ONE PIECE! Big fan of it! My top three series at the moment are One Piece, Gintama and Shingeki no Kyojin. I also read Beelzebub, Kaminomi and Oresama no Teacher pretty regularly, but I'm not such a manga/anime geek I used to be. Nowadays I'm just a regular One Piece fangirl, who reads fanfics and watches amvs and does all kinds of things a good fangirl is supposed to do (from a geek to a fangirl, I suppose it is some kind of progress).
For some strange reason, my favorite One Piece character has been Brook for a while. At first it was Sanji, and I still love him and I want to pair him with everyone and I love to read fics about him, but my number one character is Brook. I was Brook's fan even before he became Soul King and took several levels in badassery. My favourite character number three is Usopp, thanks to certain writer(s) in this community. :)
Recently my old flame with Harry Potter has been reignited thanks to wonderful Mark Oshiro and his Mark Reads -series. I don't care much about the canon books which I haven't read in years, but I have interest in fanfiction and all different possibilities fans can do with the world Rowling has created. My favorite character in Harry Potter series is hands down Severus Snape.
I find Harry Potter / Severus Snape pairing intriguing because their sole-minded focus on each other and complicated personalities make them an interesting match. This applies only to fiction. I condemn all teacher-student liaisons in real life. I also believe that there's no excuse for having a relationship of sexual nature with a minor. Love is patient, love is kind. If your one true love happens to be a minor then you should show your love by waiting.
I speak Finnish, I know English and I understand Japanese, Swedish and some German. I'm a bit ashamed that I don't know Russian at all, but some day I might take up some lessons, perhaps.
Favourites of favourites:
I registered in Fanfiction.net in 2008, and during that time I have amassed a long list of favourites. My tastes have changed during the years, and I don't like every story as much I used to. These are stories that I re-read time after time again.
Hikaru no Go: (This small fandom has marvelous writers.)
