Author has written 2 stories for A Separate Peace.
My little rant - not a profile.
Unlike most FF writers I'm older than Gene & Finny - hell, I've been an adult for quite a while, and am one who thinks ASP was written for an adult readership and then wandered into the "young adult" category primarily because involved adolescents, and more importantly, English teachers liked teaching it, and loved all the supposed symbolism (which at at least for me leads nowhere at all).
ASP stuck in my head over the years and it seems to me more than ever that Knowles (who except for ASP wrote nothing memorable) messed up even ASP's ending, allowing it fall into the well worn, cliched adolescent loves something, thing dies, adolescent grows up through the loss trope (which goes back to Tom Brown's Schooldays and still, over 150 years later refuses to disappear its tired ass). With a different, less formulaic coda the book might have been a classic instead of a schoolroom obligation. But Knowles made a lot of money off the book, so who am I to complain?
Anyway, chapters 2-4 of Nothing Else Matters are still very much works in progress (as of 2017), being tackled in the laziest, non-linear way, and they're a bit of a mess - at some point I will get brave and energetic and re-do them completely. Chapter 1 NEM is finished, though I might tweak a bit now and then. Whatever my methods, I tend to work slowly - glacially.
If you got this far - thanks for the interest. Comments are welcome.
