Author has written 2 stories for A Separate Peace.
My little rant - not a profile.
Unlike most FF writers I'm older than Gene & Finny - hell, I'm an adult, and one who thinks ASP was written for an adult readership and wandered into the "young adult" category basically because English teachers liked teaching it, and loved all the supposed symbolism (which at at least for me leads nowhere at all).
ASP stuck in my head over the years and it seems to me more than ever that Knowles (who except for ASP wrote nothing memorable) messed even ASP's ending, allowing it fall into the well worn, cliched adolescent loves something, thing dies, adolescent grows up through the loss trope. With a different, less formulaic coda the book might have been a classic instead of a schoolroom obligation. But Knowles made a lot of money off the book, so who am I to complain?
Anyway, Nothing Else Matters is very much a work in progress being tackled in a very non-linear way, so some parts are much more finalized than others. I work slowly - glacially.
