A few words:
Work and family makes it hard to write, but with a little patience and time management I believe I'll be able to get some fanfiction work done. I mean...I want to. It just feels like me vs. the world sometimes; no, I'm convinced that this is the case. Because of my hectic life, I have little time to do all the writing that I wish to do. Besides fanfiction, there's an original work of fiction for which I'm in the planning stages. So much to do, so little time...
If you've had me chance upon your stories, you know that I read it because I left a review. Most likely this review was longer than your average "Update soon plz" that many of us have had the (mis)fortune to receive. Most likely it was a little in depth, and it offered positive feedback as well as constructive criticism (you may have even gotten some negative critiques from me, but I always aim to explain why I didn't like certain aspects of any given story).
I do not expect all who read the stories on this site to give such detailed feedback as I choose to offer, but I, like many of you, do appreciate the chance to discuss things a little more thoroughly than we are usually able to with our readers, friends, and fellow authors. I'm a firm believer that our words to another writer, whether uplifting or degrading, help to mold him or her into something greater all the time.
At the very least, don't deny these authors a chance to hear how you felt about reading their material. That is, after all, why we post these fics here: to exercise our artistic license in writing, to entertain the fans of our source material, and to obtain feedback from these fans and other authors in order to help each other improve.
Synopsis of My Stories
"The Dark Lord's Trial"
This short story takes place just before Darth Vader reaches the construction site of the New Death Star to begin overseeing its progress (between Star Wars: Episode V and VI). He goes into a Jedi Trance and is noticed through the Force by Yoda. The Jedi Master then traps the Sith Lord in a mentally-created prison. Vader has to face off against Yoda in a series of events that eventually leads to an unexpected climax. A startling revelation is made to Vader, and a change is wrought upon him.
The Legend of Zelda
This short story stands alone as a comedic little anecdote about a shop keeper in Hyrule having to deal with an annoying customer. Cameo appearance by the Hero of Time.
"The Naked Truth"
Yet another comedic short story. The language and humor is a little crude, but there's nothing like a good laugh at something a little raunchy.
In this short story Link's room is invaded by a mopey Ganondorf. Hilarity ensues. Sexual exploits are revealed. So are sexual fantasies. Nothing out of the ordinary here...I think.
An Old Threat in a New Era
I wrote this Zelda fanfic during the summer of 2000 with Erico (another author on this site). I'm currently in the process of re-writing it because the original version was horrendously written (ah, the mistakes of youth). If you don't believe me, go to Erico's library of stories and check it out for yourself.
This is a Zelda story that takes place in modern times, long after the events of games like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. The setting is modern-day earth--New York City, to be exact--and Link is nothing more than a cocky teenager. His destiny, whether the kid comes to terms with it or not, is to become the next great hero in order to overthrow the international business tycoon Ganondorf before he can cast a shadow over the known world.
Very near completion: the first seventeen chapters or so are ready for uploading, but they just need a good beta reader for them.
A Country Divided
Original title: Lost Hero. I first began writing it in 2002, but I had major writer's block when I got to chapter 13 never picked it up again...until now! I have recently begun the tedious process of reworking many of the chapters and revamping dialogue and narrative. It has a sleeker feel to it and I think will turn out...well...satisfactorily, to say the least. An author on this site called Wavebreeze is helping with the Beta process so that I don't screw things up too badly.
This story takes place in a country east of Hyrule where the humans and elves of the land are in a perpetual war with each other. Link, for reasons unknown to the reader at the start of the story, is injured terribly in battle by a mysterious figure figure from his past. Link's memory is a little shot due to head trauma, and a few details of his past are lost to him. He can only hope to survive long enough to regain his memories and discover the secret behind the war, his reason for being there, and how to stop a strange disease that's plaguing everyone but the elves.
Original title: Away From Hyrule. I wrote and finished it in 2003; however, I was really unhappy with how the story turned out because I had rushed through it. I begun work on the revamped, epic version, and a few chapters are up, but I've not made any progress on it in some time due to a long break I took from fanfiction.
It starts right as Link is sent back in time after OoT to live the seven years that he had lost (the first version had completely skipped this part). It then touches upon the events of Majora's Mask. After that, the Fierce Deity's Mask will play a very significant role in the story, as will the Triforce and Ganondorf.
I'm about ready to pick up where I left off on this story, mainly because it was the one that did the best among the fics I was writing. I have a lot of plans for this one, and once I get a few more chapters ready for posting I'll begin updating again.
I've been cooking up many ideas over the past few years, and though I don't know where I'll find the time to finish them all, I hope my determination shines through in the end.
"Ocarina of Time: Rearranged"
This comedic collection of altered scenes from Ocarina of Time had been sitting on my harddrive collecting dust for years. During my first break from fanfiction that began in 2003, these files were lost to the void. I have slowly begun the process of remembering all the jokes and scenarios that I had written, and will probably start posting these in early 2011. Also, the title is probably subject to change, once I think of one more suitable.
From the Ashes
Very soon I plan on devoting a good deal of time to this particular story. In one day, I sat down and wrote an entire outline for this fic, the ideas for this story bursting forth in waves and waves. I can't fully describe the process, but it became a story of epic proportions, detailing Hyrulean history, the Knights of Hyrule, the Triforce, the forces of evil, all interconnected with a plot full of twists and surprises with an ending result that shocked even myself.
Here's a brief synopsis of things to expect:
Link thinks to structure his life again by returning to Hyrule Castle and taking up the mantle of a Knight of Hyrule, an order that he helped to reboot just before leaving Hyrule for his training abroad. However, when he returns to the land, there is sedition brewing throughout the settlements, some Hyrule citizens staying loyal to the throne, while others take up arms in a rebellion to overthrow the king and place a new man in his place. The problem is that this man, known as Raoul, claims that he is the rightful heir of the Royal Family.
During this crisis, Link is torn by his duty to the King of Hyrule (the same that Agahnim once killed to usurp power, but was ressurrected by the power of the Triforce), and his duty to the citizens of Hyrule that he saved from a reign of terror that would have come about from Ganon's original wish on the Triforce, many years ago. To make matters worse, his best bet to set matters straight is Princess Zelda, but she went missing some time before Link got back - no one seems to know her whereabouts.
In the meantime, though the Wind Fish's dreaming had finally come to an end, his ages-long slumber had given birth to what could only be described as life. One of these lives that lived on his imaginary--yet very real--Island called Koholint resisted the end of the dream that would've made her existence only a lasting memory to those who knew her. In her desperation to share her life with others, she made a wish to the Wind Fish before Link defeated Dethl of the Nightmares, that she could become a seagull and fly away from Koholint in order to sing for many people across the sea. As it turns out, her wish came true...and her first destination was the eastern shores of the continent that contained Hyrule. She holds the key to quelling Link's inner turmoil, which will give him the focus he desperately needs to help save Hyrule in one of its most desperate moments.
Throughout this story, the balance of power will be thrown about like a rag in the wind, and a plot deeper than Link could have imagined comes to the surface. Old foes return to finish what they started, and Link will soon find that the adventure is far from over.
(The first bit of inspiration came from when I thought back on the ending for the game "Link's Awakening" and how Marin could be seen as a seagull flying away from the island in answer to her wish. There seemed to be a lack of closure between Link and Marin, so I wondered what would happen if they ever met again. So, my story started with Marin coming back, and soon, everything else just fell into place on top of it all.)
Hope of the Kingdom
A Legend of Zelda fic that focuses around the plot of Star Wars: A New Hope. There will be no references to the Star Wars universe itself (so it won't be a crossover fic), but there are similar events played out by the characters from the Legend of Zelda universe. As I go over the outline that I've detailed thus far, I find it more and more a challenge to piece together the story with what I have to work with, but what little I've done with it so far has been pretty rewarding, and I hope the end result is enjoyable to the fans of both franchises.
If this fic does well, I will certainly make sequels (obviously based on the remainder of the original Star Wars Trilogy). Haha, how funny yet obvious the titles will be: Ganondorf Strikes Back and Return of the Hero. Bwahahaha! Oh, I'm sure I'll come up with something a little more original than that. I can't let myself seem too lame.
Shards of Shadow
As I have begun the painful work of not only re-writing what I have of A Country Divided but also finishing it, I came to realize that this tale starts us out in the very middle of this particular Link's adventures, as opposed to telling the tale of how he became a Hero from Hyrule. This new story will be the prequel to the fic that I've been writing. Though I've begun the outline for it and even wrote a few scenes already, I won't start posting it until I've finished with my current fic.
A young swordsman named Link falls in with a group of mercenaries that are hired to bring in said artifacts. However, the clever boy uncovers the true mystery behind the relics, and, in the process, he will discover what truly happened to the Royal Family and its last remaining heir to the throne, the Princess Zelda.
This is the tale of a new Hero.
The Choices We Make
My first AU Legend of Zelda fic (which may or may not remain AU, depending on how I decide to play things out in this story...if this statement confuses you, then feel free to ask me about it). I was thinking of a "What If" scenario for Ocarina of Time (yes, this has been done before, so that's why this story won't be my main focus for quite a while) where the Triforce pieces don't go exactly to whom we expect. I have the entire plot planned out (it was easy because it's based on OoT) but things go a little differently than we expect them to.
So, we have Link, Zelda and Ganondorf, but they're very different people (similar personalities, but different goals in life). I won't go to far into detail here, but Link gets the Triforce of Wisdom, Zelda gets Power, and Ganondorf gets Courage after one of these three touches the Goddesses' relic in the Sacred Realm (I'm not going to say whodunit). This all calls for some serious role-reversals: things are very different seven years after this particular event, but similar things must happen all the same. There are Sages that must be awoken still, and Hyrule still needs to be saved. People we once thought were good and benevolent have become evil and cruel, and vice versa.
The Legend of Zelda timeline will never be the same again after this story runs its course.
