It's amazing how quickly time can pass sometimes.
Once upon a time, I saw myself as a prolific fan fiction author; weaving tales about characters from the games that occupied so much of my time. Time in worlds that I spent hours upon hours playing in...living in. Role playing games mostly, because of their nature. Playing roles. Becoming somebody else, living somebody else's life, finding a way to tell their story through my own actions and decisions, and in that telling bringing myself into their world, even if only for a little while. The subject matter was plentiful: Final Fantasy, Everquest, Torment. Games with worlds with plenty of side stories to explore through writing and plenty of characters to invent to stand alongside those characters that everybody already knew and loved.
Years have passed since my first (and thus far only) foray into fan fiction, and that proliferation never came into being. That's not to say that the games aren't still played, new worlds aren't visited and time isn't spent thinking of ideas for stories. The time for writing those stories isn't as plentiful as it was, and as every adult knows, when you're younger, you always feel as though you have all of the time in the world to do things, as long as that time is "later". But what do you do when later finally comes knocking?
What I do is make the time for the people and things I love and fill the rest of the time with whatever I can. If that means more writing, then hopefully more stories will show up under my little profile. If it doesn't, I hope that what I have written will make a reader think about or consider a character in a way that they hadn't before.
I'm leaving my old profile below, mostly because it's fun for me to go back and see what was on my mind over 10 years ago when I first clicked that little "Create an account" button on FanFiction.net
So who am I? A dedicated gamer, a programmer by trade, and a writer in my spare time. Unfortunately, my spare time has gone down as my age has gone up. Aftereffect of responsibility I suppose. I've been playing games for most of my 20-something years, but have always managed to find time for good books, good movies, and good friends. I tend to enjoy stories with interesting worlds and characters, and as little agnst as possible. The same applies to the games I play, although I can tolerate angst in those. In doses anyway. My favorite authors include Terry Brooks and David Eddings, as well as Piers Anthony. I'm an avid anime fan, with my favorites currently being Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Read or Die. I don't have much in the way of stories available yet, but I'm hoping that I'll have more time to write in the next several months.
