"...one writes because one has to create a world in which one can live." --Anais Nin
I don't have time to write. I have a kid who is smart and sweet and demanding in equally intense measure and cannot be left to his own devices, ever, because he is a ridiculous destructive genius and I am tired of ER visits and rebuilding bits of my house. Speaking of said house, I need to keep it livable. And cook food and do laundry and stuff. My husband helps, but his job keeps him away so much that I am, in practice, a single parent. I work 60 hours a week, teach twenty-eight classes, write curriculum, tutor on the side, try to practice piano sometimes, and continue to fail to learn Mandarin (the language I need to survive).
But I have to write. I've been "making books" since I was 6 years old. It's the thing I do best and the thing that keeps my brain from disintegrating into a hopeless scrambled mess of too much experience and too much emotion. I'm always exhausted, always stressed, and always dreaming of my personal fairy-tale ending in which I manage to write something that sells enough that I can quit my other jobs to just write write write which pretty much equals happily-ever-after in my brain (okay I do need to travel too because I have seen enough of the world to know that there is so so SO much more to be seen and it's beautiful and heartbreaking and there).
So I write fanfiction. Sporadically, with big spaces between updates, and less and less as I work on more original stuff, but here I can play with characters I love a little too much and also get feedback and feedback keeps me writing and writing is the key to my dreams.
Yes. Hi :)
P.S. If you want to complain about my update speed, you must first prove that you know what it's like to have a demanding full-time job and a small, high-maintenance child while making a life in a foreign country. If you can do all this AND keep the updates flowing, please share your ninja secrets so I, too, can be a superhero.
