I became an NCIS junkie during season 6. Before that I had only watched season 3 through 5 casually. Thanks to the DVD box set, I just recently finished watching seasons 1 though 5 in order, and I can't wait until my season 6 DVDs are shipped on August 22nd.
Not long ago, I stumbled across a discussion of fanfiction on the, and since then, I spend my free time devouring NCIS stories. My favorites are TIVA stories, but I read other NCIS stories that come highly recommended. I don't read slash or stories dealing with the death of major characters that is outside the NCIS canon. I don’t care much for extreme alternate universe unless it involves keeping Jenny around after Season 5. I am constantly searching for new stories and do quite a bit of snooping in writers' and reviewers' favorites looking for the next story to read.
I have no talent when it comes to creative writing, and I admire those of you who have that talent. There are some awesome writers on fanfiction, and some of you in high school are the best! I am a former college yearbook editor, and I've had to write loads of papers over the years for AP English, my job and my masters degree. My teachers, professors, and one or two really good bosses pounded the rules of writing into my head and turned me into a very picky reader. I've walked away from story after story after reading just a few paragraphs because I can't deal with poor grammar, poorly constructed sentences, writing in passive voice, or spelling errors. I dislike stories that portray the members of the NCIS team as out of character or that misstate facts related to characters, the show in general, or information regarding medical, military, or current events. Most information is easily researched using an internet search engine. I shy away from very long stories (I've seen some that are 60+ chapters), but I am an extremely fast reader and can easily read a 10 or 20 chapter story in one sitting. I enjoy the one and two shots too.
Why do so many writers describe Tony's eyes as blue? They are a beautiful green! We greenies have to stick together, so I cringe a little when writers get it wrong.
Other than NCIS, the first run shows that I record and watch every week are:
I am a real life space nut and crazy about Star Trek. I've loved every series except DS9, and I've seen every movie at the theater starting with the original cast's first movie.
Over the years, my favorite TV shows other than Star Trek have been
60s (some of these I watched originally and some in syndication after school in the 70s)
