Important Notice:

As, I’m sure many of you are aware the identity and name of Naruto’s father, the name of his mother, and the name of The Forth Hokage were recently revealed in Chapter 367 of the Naruto manga. This information has been taken into account and any necessary changes to STF or WHLS will be or have been made.

As for the identity and likeness (revealed in Chapter 382) of his mother, this piece of information is actually critical to both STF and WHLS. Her identity is a large plot point for both and will not match canon fully. Her name, look, and origin will be used to a certain degree depending on the story. Remember both stories are about staying as close to canon as possible while revealing unseen moments and facts.

I would like to use this space to allay any fears that I am abandoning STF or any of my stories, for that matter.

Over the course of the upcoming months, and 2008 as a whole, I plan to release updates for all my ongoing stories. That means new chapters of STF & WHLS in the upcoming weeks and the return of A Tale of Two Cursed Souls.

Also, there will be the release of possibly three new stories. I know, you’re probably wondering ‘why, when your releases are as far apart as is…’ Well, the answer is that I have the ideas for these stories and I want to share them with you the reader. I don’t like to make promises as far as release dates go because things happen and dates are missed.

But, I will promise that as long as it’s humanly possible, I will continue to work on these stories. I hate talking about myself but, I will say this, writing is like breathing for me, it’s something I’m constantly doing. It’s just that sometimes what I write doesn’t fall into the realm of fanfiction or if it does it doesn’t always pertain to my ongoing stories.

So, with that said, I hope 2008 will be great year for us all. I wish every one of you great success in all your endeavors, good health, and that you be God Blessed.

Greetings:

Well, where to begin… First, and foremost, I want to thank everyone for their continued interest in all my stories. The overwhelming and continued support sent my way through reviews, PM, and e-mail means more to me than words could ever do justice.

Second, let me offer my humble apologies for going Dark for as long as I have. The recent amount of time between updates has been long and bordering on excessive and I apologize. My reasons are my own but I will simply say that they are of a personal manner pertaining to family and leave it at that.

Third, I would like to attempt, in as non-offensive and belligerent a manner as I can, to explain, or even remind, exactly where Fanfictioncomes from. It comes from the imaginations of men and women, boys and girls, of many levels of skill and technique who take time away from their everyday lives to create the stories we all enjoy reading. Lives full of responsibilities such as friends and family, work, and school, amongst countless other things.

But, one must also remember that Fanfictionis a passion for some, a hobby for many, and a passing interest for most. But, for all, reader and writer alike, it is free entertainment; entertainment that costs the reader nothing to consume and the writer their time to create.

So, please, to end this exposition, I ask that we all take the time to show a little understanding and patience for our fellow readers and writers. Allow them the time to create without being hounded, the time to develop as a writer without being belittled for poor spelling and grammar, and the time to discover themselves as a storyteller without having their ideas and plots being ridiculed.

We all had to begin somewhere and we all can stand to improve. I will be the first to admit and accept my faults. And, it’s only with time and diligence that those faults will hopefully lessen. Allowing me to become the better writer, I’m sure, we all strive to become.

Not to say that I don’t understand the plight of the reader, who’s left hanging, wondering about the status of their favorite stories, or haven’t experienced that nagging fear, after weeks or months without update, that your favorite fic may never be finished. Trust me; I’ve begun reading many a story, which held so much promise, only for them to be left unfinished with me being more than a little annoyed with its author.

And, yet, it’s part of the risk we run, and should maybe expect, whenever we begin reading an unfinished fic. Is that particularly fair, no, probably not? But, if one wants to, it could be seen as the price of admission for us the reader. We offer up our support and hope of an entertaining, completed fic in exchange for a short escape from our everyday lives, an escape brought to us at the cost of the author’s time, patience, and creativity. A fair trade…? That’s for you to decide.

In closing, my thanks and apologies to all who’ve read this. My thanks to those who agree, disagree, or are indifferent to it. My apologies to anyone who may have been offended by what they’ve read as that was not my intentions.

First, let me say Thank You for all the reviews and e-mails. Your kind words are more than appreciated.

Now, I’m proud and excited to present Chapter Two of WHLS – Umbrella. This chapter is the first step in revealing Naruto & Hinata’s secret relationship. This first Arc will cover their relationship, reactions to their death, their funeral, and their departure for Soul Society.

~Chapter One Commentary~

Relating To Canon:

This story is essentially similar to STF in that it follows canon as faithfully as possible on the surface. While behind the scenes, major changes have accord that lead to an eventual divergence from canon. Those major changes include their relationship which begins before the time skip and the changes it has on them and others. The divergence takes place during Chapters 354- 362 of the Naruto Manga, resulting with Naruto and Hinata’s deaths.

The Bleach Factor:

This story is more a fusion of the two franchises then a crossover. Major elements and plot points from both are being used in the making of this story. That said, some elements, rules, and facts are being changed so that the fusion maybe more seamless. There will be changes both big and small so be prepared, understandingly, most will be to Bleach’s canon as will be seen in upcoming chapters. But, again, like STF these will begin in the background and slowly work their way to the forefront of the story.

Ichigo, Rukia, etc:

Most, if not all, of our favorite Bleach characters will appear in this fic. Part of the fun of this story is seeing the effect Naruto and Hinata’s presence will have on them and Soul Society as a whole.

Pairings:

This is something I want to keep quiet on for a while and let the story speak for itself. This is mainly because I want to let such things happen naturally as I write but I will confirm that the main pairing is Naruto/Hinata/? Let the guessing begin… ;-)

Help With Bleach Facts & Terms:

If anyone can point me to any websites that covers Bleach as well as does Naruto I’d really appreciate it. While I consider myself a pretty well informed Bleach fan, I will admit that I not the most knowledgeable of fans. Also, if anyone knows the names for the various articles of clothing the Soul Reapers and Ninjas wear I’d really appreciate it if you’d send them my way; especially, what’s worn by Urahara, Yoruichi, Soifon, & The Forth Hokage.

Shikai & Bankai:

I’ve been given a few suggestions as to what Naruto and Hinata’s Zanpakuto, Shikai, and Bankai should be like and I’d like to thank everyone for their suggestions. If I do use any of them I’ll be sure to thank whoever suggested it.

The Story’s Future:

There are aspects of this story that I won’t go into because I want them to be a surprise. Such as where in the Bleach timeline does this story fall, will we continue to see Naruto’s world without him, etc.

Response to reviews for STF Chapter Nine

I proudly present the next chapter of STF… This chapter was an absolute joy to write and brings us to the beginning of The Chuunin Exams. Once again, a big thanks to chaosakatsuki for pulling beta duties on this chapter.

In addition to this new chapter I have also reposted Chapters One and Seven, both featuring revisions to help them flow better with the latest and future chapters.

Chapter One features a rewritten finale to KNC and a slightly rewritten ending to the chapter.

Chapter Seven features a rewritten scene featuring Neji’s reaction to KNC.

Now, for some commentary and answers, as you can see there is a nice amount this time. I felt it was time to address these topics as I have been asked about them by several individuals. Anyway, I hope they’re informative and help clear things up.

Chapter 11, Mirrors and Broken Wings Part Two, is in the works and should see the light of day soon. I thank you for your patience and continued support.

~Chapter Nine Commentary~

Relating to Canon:

I guess, this story is basically an AU (but isn’t all fanfiction) that follows closely to canon. What makes it AU is all the things that have happened in the shadows of the story we all know.

Everything happened as it did in canon up to the end of Part One (Valley of the End) and the time-skip but starting now with the Chuunin Exam we will start to see slightly more changes to canon.

This story begins during the three year time-skip and will eventually reach then pass the beginning of Naruto: Shippuuden (Part Two).

Possible Appearance of Filler Characters:

As for the appearance of characters from the Anime Filler Episodes, let me just say that I actually enjoyed several of those arcs, some were decent others complete and utter crap. So, with that in mind I would not rule out the appearance of several of these characters. On that note I will be using the first Movie in a way that I guarantee will surprise everyone – I hope.

Naruto’s Travels with Jiraiya/Reaction to KNC’s Release:

We will definitely get a glimpse of their travels and his reaction to STF being released. Remember his traveling companions haven’t read it yet and their possible reactions are weighing heavily on Naruto.

The Ending of STF:

There are several possible outcomes to KNC. As well as several points at which it could end. I have what could be viewed as Light and Dark endings, but they’re all part of my original idea for this story and may see the light of day eventually, most likely as alternate endings.

KNC Reaching Sound and Suna:

Do you really think I would not let Sasuke and Gaara or Orochimaru for that matter not read KNC? Let me make it clear this book is getting out of the village as shown at the end of Chapter One and in the words of Shikamaru - It’s Gonna Be Troublesome.

Kyu’s Appearance vs. Naruto’s Appearance:

The changes to his appearance are only in the book. They are part of the character of Kyu with him basically being an avatar for Naruto. With this in mind, his appearance changed, his hair becoming orange-red instead of blonde, his eyes are crimson instead of blue, and his birthmarks crimson became tears instead of whiskers.

The Difference between Bold and Light Print:

Everything in bold print is what is written in “KNC” while what appears in regular print is what actually happened during that scene or moment. What the other characters (Hinata, Hanabi, etc.) are reading is a version of that scene/moment written in the style of “KNC” with the aliases and such in place.

I present these scenes as such so that we all may see what really happened as there is usually info in them that are not present in “KNC” for obvious reason. Because even if Naruto is bearing his soul even he knows that some things must remain hidden.

It’s here again, another chapter of STF… But, before I go any further let me give a big thanks to chaosakatsuki for pulling beta duties on this chapter. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Onto the chapter itself, I figured I’d break it down by sections and address each individually. As, for the chapter as a whole I’m proud to say that this brings an end to Naruto’s pre-Genin days and brings us ever closer to the end of this first Arc. Exactly how many chapters remain in this arc is unknown but they’ll cover the Chuunin exams and briefly the Return of Itachi, the Search for Tsunade, and the Sasuke Retrieval mission before wrapping up with the aftermath of KNC’s release in Konoha.

I really enjoyed writing this chapter as it features several characters and plot points that will play major roles in the story to come. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.

~Chapter Eight Commentary~

Hiashi’s Genin Squad:

This simply came to me in the process of writing the chapter. I noticed the ages of the characters (Hiashi 41, Iruka 22, Hayate 23, and Yugao 22) and it just kind of clicked. It started as me thinking wouldn’t it be funny if Naruto’s favorite Sensei had been taught by his secret one. Then I wondered what type of team would Hiashi teach then Hayate and Yugao came to mind. I love the idea of an Academy teacher Chuunin, a Tokubetsu Jounin, and an ANBU emerging from Hiashi’s squad.

The Fourth’s Letter:

I figure the letter is self-explanatory but just keep it in mind as it has a role to play later in the story.

Naruto and Hanabi vs. Hiashi:

This one section drove me insane as I knew what I wanted to present but I wasn’t sure if I could in a proper and entertaining manner. I’m sorta proud of it considering it’s only the second full fight scene I’ve ever written, second to my Shinji Ikari vs. Kuno fight in Ch5 of my Evangelion/Ranma1/2 Fusion fic “A Tale of Two Cursed Souls.”

I hope that I was able to show how despite his extra training that Naruto while smarter and more skilled is still just Naruto. I’d put him when going all out to be low Chuunin in skill as hinted at in Ch4 when he and Haku took out Gato and his men.

As for the fight itself, please give me your opinions on it so that I can hopefully improve my writing for the upcoming fights.

Character Bios & Other Important Facts:

Taki (Tenten’s Mother):

It seems as if in every fic, Tenten is either an orphan or the daughter of a former ninja turned weapon shop owner who’s always male. So, I decided to spin that on its head and feature her mother instead. I’m a big Tenten fan, so I really loved writing this follow-up to her appearance in Chapter Six. Especially, since we don’t know her family situation in canon this made creating one for her all the more fun.

As for her mother’s design, she looks, fights like, and is named after the female ninja Taki from the Soul Edge/Soul Caliber series of video games.

Kakashi’s Father:

This came to me as a result of Naruto’s initial encounter with Tenten in Ch6. And, someone asking in a review what was the story behind the “cursed sword.” When I decided to go back there and introduce Tenten’s mother, Taki, I just needed to mention that sword. Then I started thinking of the different swords that have appeared in Naruto and I decided to use the sword I find to be both the simplest in design while remaining one of the coolest. That led me to Sakumo Hatake and his White Light Chakra Saber. Then the rest of that section developed from there.

The Hakkyokuken (Eight Extremities Fist):

This is the name for Naruto’s revision of the Jyuuken, co-developed alongside Hiashi. I drew my inspiration for the style from the real Chinese martial art. It’s called Bajiquan and Hakkyokuken in Japanese and both come to mean Eight Extremities Fist, I recommend looking it up on Wikipedia.

Versions of the style can be seen in use by Akira Yuki from the Virtua Fighter series of video games, as well as Kokoro from Dead or Alive 4.
