I decided to update my profile to make it more in line with what I usually see around authors. To that end, I'm going to describe my writing inclinations in greater detail.
I do not like Akane. I will freely admit that I bash Akane and exaggerate her hulking character flaws to make her so heinous that I can justify setting Ranma against her. I will happily explain why and enter into debates on the topic with any who wish to discuss it.
I do not like Nabiki. As a character she's useful and entertaining, but as a person and especially a romantic interest she's the only slight less vile to me than Kodachi (who is still a step ahead of Akane).
I like Shampoo. I cannot justify the morality of her behavior, but I like her character and don't believe in the unsupported fandom-generated stereotype that her village treats men as second-class citizens or as breeding studs. I hardly think Cologne would have put so much effort into training a baby generator.
Ukyo's alright. I just never really got into her. The crossdressing thing just seemed really arbitrary to me.
I do not like the concept of characters being "fixed" such that they become more mature and stately and worthy of our awe. I like the character flaws. They're interesting and funny. To that end, there are a number of Ranma conventions that I despise: The polite Ranma, the booksmart Ranma, and the humble Ranma. I also loathe angsty Ranmas, though that's hardly an example of a character being "fixed".
I hate it when conflicts are solved through long-winded and realistic litigation and law rather than violent conflict and humiliating misadventures. Anyone who's read Guardian can tell you that despite the story revolving around police officers, there's very, very little law involved anywhere. I guarantee that if that ever changes, I will make a mockery of the entire legal process.
I don't like complicated explanations of honor and family obligations and whatnot. I realize that this is probably quite important in Ranma 1/2, but hearing it all spelled out by one person or another bores me. You won't see a lot of that in my stories.
To put it bluntly: I'm a humor writer. I enjoy what I do. I find it painful to try to understand the universe of Ranma 1/2 in a serious light, so I don't.
On another note, I have a distinct fondness for original characters, which is quite embarrassing and unfortunate, since I'm trying to write fanfiction. I'm working on that.
Apparently ff.net doesn't show all my profile info anymore, so I'll place my home page link directly:
