I read and write. A lot. I am a writer and artist and teacher, based in the UK. I write mainly non-fiction with a smattering of reviews on the vampire and horror genre. I paint (mainly large, semi-abstract paintings) and occasionally produce political caricatures.
I've always loved the vampire / zombie / werewolf genre, whether it's in literary or filmic form. This genre provides a safe haven to explore complex human dynamics. It's also a ripe territory to explore sexuality, social and political questions, power relations and issues with forms of otherness.
I stumbled over this site completely by accident. I was hunting down a poem by Robert Herrick and came across an SVM fanfic. Isn't Google amazing? Those SVM FF readers in the know will instantly recognise the fic to which I'm referring. And as they say, the rest is history. This site never ceases to surprise and amaze me - I admire the quality, standard and the imagination displayed in the fan fiction on this site.
But equally, I've also met several fellow SVM and Twi FFic addicts, who I now count as friends and for that I'm thankful.
"Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplacable spark. In the hopeless swamps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all, do not let the hero in your soul perish and leave only frustration for the life you deserved, but never have been able to reach. The world you desire can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours." - Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand
My Blog: From the Red Room This is still a work in progress. I realise it's horrendously behind and I need to update it. The aim is to populate it with FF reviews, my own writing, tidbits along with film and book reviews. That's the plan, anyway.
12 March 2011 Heartbreak Hotel won First Place Overall Winner in the Pick Your Adventure Contest. I want to thank the judges, contestants and readers for participating in this contest. I had such fun writing Heartbreak Hotel and I hope readers enjoy reading it too. You can view the banner Ange de l'aube made for Heartbreak Hotel.
13 March 2011 The lovely FerlaV made a banner for Heartbreak Hotel. It's all shades of dark and deliciously gorgeous.
22 March 2011 I learned last night that Crown of Love was picked for 2nd Place Judge's Choice in the Jukebox Contest. I'm truly staggered as I wasn't expecting to win anything. After all, there were several talented writers who had entered wonderfully written one-shots. The wonderfully talented Ange de l'aube took time out from her busy schedule and made a banner for Crown of Love.
You can also view both her banner and a review written by GothicTemptress for the Wayward Pushers Blog, a copy of which is on From the Red Room Blog. Please check it out - her kind words have left me feeling really humbled. GothicTemptress is a highly talented writer of stories which are unique and stand out in the Twilight fandom. She handles highly sensitive themes and big subjects with a lightness of touch. Please check out her stories - you won't regret it.
I also received a wonderful surprise from Tkegl. I have followed her stories for some time now - she's another highly talented writer whose work I've admired. You can imagine my delight when she said that she had made a banner for Crown of Love. Not only is she a talented writer but her visual skills are remarkable. I'm astounded - I never expected to receive such a lovely gift from her. Please check out her stories - they are so well-written.
