Hey, I'm Kayla, and live in Canada, in probably the most awesome-named city in the world (after Mumbai), but my life's mostly in my head and imagination. I read most of the time, when I'm not writing or watching questionable sci-fi TV and movies on my laptop.
I'm a proud Whovian, Red Pill, Sheldonian, nerdfighter, Gracer, Pistol, Potterhead, and bookworm. (PM me if you have questions.)

What I Write
I can write a lot of different things and am a very open writer, even though my style changes depending on whatever I'm reading at the time. I have a terrible time writing multi-chaptered stories, mostly because my updates get less and less frequent but I'll always finish them eventually. No matter what you people think, I don't forget; my guilt eats me alive. Oneshots and challenges are things that I'm addicted to, probably because I can write them in a day or in one sitting, then edit and post and forget about it. So, I might do loads of oneshots and challenges while I still have a long story on the go. I apologize, I also suffer from writer's block frequently, so I lose my inspiration and find it very difficult to get it back. This current "alive" story is the last one I'm going to write for a very long time.
Even though I write many, many different things from different times there are a few things I won't write or simply can't write. Parodies and crack!fics I neither read or write (even though I love A Very Potter Musical), but a good AU story is all right with me as long as it's moderately realistic and it's keeping with the spirit of the canon. AU that is over the top, though, I really hate, or extreme OOC-ness gets on my nerves, unless there's a good reason for it (once again, AVPM is immune to this rule). Realisism, even in fanfiction, is the thing I pick at most and grit my teeth at. I've been asked about smut and, frankly, I turned fourteen last June and as a girl who hasn't had her first kiss, writing sex would be beyond impossible for me. The mechanics are simple enough, but the emotional and mental I couldn't do and that's about 70% of the story (I hope, at least). True love and soul-mates are examples of things I can't write because I don't believe in them, so they would be very unrealistic and that's cringe-worthy for me. I'm not opposed to romance, however.
I know, I'm a little strange, but I am writing fanfiction.
I love writing about the specific past, like the prequels you don't get, and getting to picture the characters before you knew them is one of the best things about fanfiction, I think. Weird romances and strange ideas are things that I think only need a good writer and the right style to make good, so that there aren't so many plot holes and leaks that you have to ask, "Hey, is this the Titanic?"
Fandoms I write for: Harry Potter
"Writing is not a job or activity. nor do I sit at a desk waiting for inspiration to strike. Writing is like a different kind of existence. In my life, for some of the time, I am in an alternative world, which I enter through day-dreaming or imagination. That world seems as real to me as the more tangible one of relationship and work, cars and taxes. I don’t know that they’re much different to each other. However, I write about these alternative worlds because it helps preserve them. I’m their historian, their geographer, their sociologist, their storyteller. I write them into being. I have to say I don’t care whether this is a good thing to do or not; this is just the way I am and the way I live my life." -- John Marsden.
"How do I write? One word at a time." -- Stephen King
"When there's no more rules or categorizations, no more blacks and no more whites, when there's no more punks and dirt--that's when things will be okay, and not a day sooner." -- Sid Vicious
"Sometimes the most positive thing you can be in society is absolutely negative." -- Johnny Rotten
Have a Very Harry Birthday: The war's over and Hermione's gone back to school, it's her first birthday since the war ended and Harry wants to talk to her in private. Harmony. For The Alliterated Pairings Challenge on HPFC. I like it a lot, even though it's almost complete romance.
Lily's Valentines: Way too over the top romantic for me, and completely unrealistic but I needed an entry for the Valentine's Day Happens Year-Round Challenge on HPFC (a friend dared me. Sue me, I've got an ego). If you're a Snape/Lily fan, though, and like their friendship/love on Snape's side then I suggest you read this. Feel free to laugh at it; I know I am.
Everyone Has Secrets: The secrets of a variety of characters, inspired by different quotes. All under 3,000 words long. The first nine are for the Skeletons in the Closet Challenge on HPFC. Some are strange, others sad, some romantic, but almost all nostalgic or tragic in some way. Right now, it's only Marauder Era, but that'll change when I get ideas.
Only in a Different Life: This one, I'm not too sure about. It's featuring a pairing that's so weird that I like it: Barty Crouch Jr. and Lily Evans. Yep, you read right. I only got interested into Crouch's character because in the movie he's played by David Tennant (who also plays the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who), but Crouch is very entertaining to write mostly because you know next to nothing about his previous life.
Can I Sit Here?: Draco and Harry meet on the train, kinda hard to explain. They aren't bff and it's not slash either, but they're good friends, Ron and Hermione are still there. It's going to be going until their third year, at least. But that's only as far as I've planned--I've also got the pairings down (in my head, at least) like RonHermione or whatever, but that's not one of them. So far only one person got what I was trying to do: recreate the Marauders in the modern era. *smirks* You know who you are: I heart you! This is the third thing I've ever written online, so please, bear with the terrible writing; I'm working on editing it, not to mention finishing it.
Boggarts of Harry Potter: This one is just going to a collection of one-shots I'm going to post when I get struck by inspiration. So far I've got Malfoy's up and Hermione's is on my computer, waiting for me to edit and proofread it.
Bright Green Eyes: I wrote this one in about 5mins, just an idea I toyed around with and I'm very happy with the result. Harry goes to Snape's portrait at Hogwarts and tries to make amends, as well as telling Snape his choice of name for his second son. You know, the one that even Renesmee Cullen is laughing at.
Songfics: Any and every sonfic I have finished. I'm a rock fan, but I take requests and would like some. :)
19 Years Later: What should have happened 19 years later, Draco's redeemed, Dramione. I HATE this, I think the romance is crap, but hey! You're your own worst critic -- I showed it to a few friends and they loved it. Go figure. I really want to delete it but it's the very first thing I ever posted and the very first thing I ever wrote (back in grade 4) so I keep it as a starting line of where my writing began. I came a long way. *proud*
