Major Phantom Characters' Descriptions that I usually write:
Erik: My Erik mostly, if not, always will be based on Leroux version. I read the book first, and Leroux Erik is by far my favorite version. He will be dark and tormented almost to the point of insanity. He will not be insane as such; rather, he will go through periods of insanity and not. Usually, I write him as a murderer, but one that does not take perverse pleasure from murdering. I.E. He is not a serial killer but has murdered. His past will usually remain a mystery that will slowly unfold in the story's progession. He will always LOVE CHRISTINE, and I do not write E/OC! Erik will only love Christine. His signature look will be an all black tuxedo, black mask, gold glaring eyes, and the deformity of Leroux's description. I try to keep his age from 30s to 40s. Leroux never specified how old Erik truly was but he is always, however, older than Christine. I try not to stray far from that.
Christine: I use various versions of her unlike Erik, who stays consistent to Leroux's version. She can range from quiet and timid to bold and strong-willed. One thing, however, she will not be is ignorant. I will always refrain from making her into a mindless and stupid twit. Although, I do not support her character's actions in the novel, I respect her as a ROUND character. She will NEVER be flat/static. As far as physical appearance, she will remain blonde-haired and blue-eyed. She will be torn with her feelings between Erik and Raoul. She will be frightened of him at first, but usually will grow to understand him. She will feel a loyalty or duty to Erik, which will only add to her confusion. Her age will usually remain in early teens (16) to early adulthood (20s).
Raoul: At times, I did write him as the bad guy; however, I have found I am more comfortable with him as the genuine man in love. In the novel, I was turned off by his childish reactions, but I also acknowledge that he did genuinely and truly love Christine. He will always be of wealthy background and have a significantly older brother who is his mentor. His physical appearance does not alter from blonde hair and blue-eyed. He may or may not have the moustache that Leroux bestowed on him. His reactions/actions will seem a bit too impulsive, but his motives are always pure. He is a noble character, and I wish to represent him as such in my writing. His age will usually range from 20-25.
Meg/Madame Giry: Ah, the Girys! Meg will usually be timid as described in Gaston's version, with dark brunette hair and brown eyes. She will help Christine by defending her or guiding her. Or she may not be included in the story if not needed. Madame Giry is probably the only character that I try not to remain solely dependant on Leroux's description. She will usually have dark hair in a bun, and piercing beady eyes. She will have known Erik for years, and tried to be his mentor. She will feel devotion and a need to protect him no matter his insane acts of violence. She WILL have teeth, unlike the description in Leroux's novel where she had few in her head. Her age is not important; however she will be older than Erik. I make her and Nadir around the same age.
Nadir/The Persian: I have always loved this man's character. Using a bit of Kay's and Leroux's mixture, I combined the elemnts into one character. He will always have the title daroga (police chief). He has a bit of mystery like Erik, and is the only one Erik considers a friend. Although, the man can be presumptuous, he tries to help Erik. His looks will be based off Middle Eastern men since he was from Persia (i.e. Iran). He will know most of Erik's secrets, and will call Erik out on his misbehaviors. He usually is first introduced as the mysterious Persian man with the Afghan hat like in Gaston's novel. He takes it upon himself to protect Erik while also protecting other people from the masked man. When Erik's bouts of insanity or anger flare, Nadir is one who tries to reason or bring him back to reality. Without the Persian's tale, we would never know what happened to Raoul, Christine, Erik, and himself the night of the scorpion and grasshopper. He is usually older than Erik but may at times be the same age.
What can I say about me? Well, I am a twenty-one year old who enjoys a myriad of activities such as writing, playing piano, singing (not very well), reading books. Writing since third grade, I have always had a knack for creating stories and reading them as well. I am a complex person that knows the value of humor and the love of God. Yes, I am a Christian...However, I realize that not all people share my beliefs so I do not press them on anyone. I absolutely loathe it when people judge others...probably explains the connection I feel for our dear masked man. Although, I appreciate constructive criticism; there is a difference between tearing down someone and building them up with beneficial advice. Therefore, I do not support flamers in any shape or fashion, for it is not necessary to 'bash' or 'de-value' another being. If you cannot see it, I have an eclectic style and mindset. I plan on attending college and getting a Bachelor's degree, which I will use to further myself in the law enforcement field. I plan to rise and work for law enforcement on a Federal level. Because of my interest and future in this field, much of my writing will entail a police/interrogative/criminal theme. Much of the crime that I write has been observed in movies, media, or serial killers that I am familiar. I realize the value of reviews, so if you are to leave a review, I will kindly return the favor. I pray that you enjoy my writing, for I love to write for your pleasure. Do not be afraid to leave me a note, detailing what you liked or disliked...or even what you might want to see happen. I am a very vocal person cyberspace-wise but in person, I am very introverted. I do not speak about myself, but I enjoy helping others. Stories that I read usually entail a good plot, round characters (some static ones are fine), decent to excellent grammar, beautifully developed syntax, and creative phrases/descriptions. If you would like to know more about me, feel free to ask! Enjoy my works!
"He who walks with the wise grows wise." (Proverbs 13:20)
"Bad company corrupts good character." (1 Corinthians 15:33)
"Your body will let you know you have ingested harmful chemicals...by dying."
It is a great consolation for me to remember that the Lord, to whom I had drawn near in humble and child-like faith, has suffered and died for me, and that He will look on me in love and compassion.
What you are, you are by accident of birth; what I am, I am by myself. There are and will be a thousand princes; there is only one Beethoven.
A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
Kindness is the language in which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
A man may well be condemned, not for doing something, but for doing nothing.
The tragedy of life and of the world is not that men do not know God; the tragedy is that, knowing Him, they still insist on going their own way.
You see many stars at night in the sky but find them not when the sun rises; can you say that there are no stars in the heaven of day? O man! because you behold not God in the days of your ignorance, say not that there is no God.
-ALL PHANTOM OF THE OPERA QUOTES--
All from ALW musical/movie
"Show some compassion..." "The world showed no compassion to me!" (Raoul , Erik)
"You alone can make my song take flight. It's over now the music of the night." (Erik)
"Fear can turn to love. You'll learn to see, to find the man behind the monster. This repulsive gargoyle who seems a beast but secretly dreams of beauty.. secretly." (Erik)
"Pitiful creature of darkness. What kind of life have you known? God gave me the courage to show you. You are not alone." (Christine)
Quotes from Phantom of the Opera by: Gaston Leroux
"His Don Juan Triumphant seemed to me at first one long, awful, magnificent sob. But, little by little, it expressed every emotion, every suffering of which mankind is capable. It intoxicated me; and I opened the door which separated us. Erik rose as I entered, but dared not turn my direction. “Erik,” I cried, “Show me your face without fear! I swear that you are the most unhappy and sublime of men; and, if ever again I shiver when I look at you, it will be because I am thinking of your genius!”
"He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to contempt himself with a cellar."
"I have forgiven him the harm which he has done me.”
“You know I never keep my oaths. Oaths are made to catch gulls with.”
“But why do these walls obey him alone? He did not build them!”
"His horrible, unparalleled and repulsive ugliness put him without the pale of humanity; and it often seemed to me that, for this reason, he no longer believed that he had any duty toward the human race."
"In my country, he was known by a name which means the ‘trap-door lover’.”
–The Persian speaking of Erik
“I can’t go on living like this, like a mole in a borrow! Don Juan Triumphant is finished; and now I want to live like everybody else. I want to have a wife like everybody else and to take her out on Sundays. I have invented a mask that makes me look like anybody else."
"People will not even turn around in the streets….You are crying! You are afraid of me! And yet I am not really wicked. Love me and you shall see! All I wanted was to be loved for myself. If you loved me I should be as gentle as a lamb; and you could do anything with me that you pleased.”
I also love to write, play piano, read, and read fanfiction!
