My name is ncfan, I am in college, and I am also known as her Royal Majesty, the Queen of the kingdom of Angst. You'll figure out why soon enough.
IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: I feel I should note that I am a fan of using unreliable narrators in my works (see A Lesser Breed for a prime example; I think that's part of what's gotten some of the reviewers so mad, is that they don't know an unreliable narrator when they see one); this is especially prevalent in first-person works, which I would hope all people know are being narrated by inherently unreliable narrators. JUST AS IMPORTANT: The views of the characters I write about don't necessarily reflect my own views. I shouldn't have to be saying this, except that some of my reviewers seems to think my writings do reflect my views. SO, JUST TO REITERATE: I employ unreliable narrators often, and the views of the narrators do not necessarily reflect my own.
Another note for anyone who reads my Puella Magi Madoka Magica fics. I know that there is some division in the community over whether the correct term is "Puella Magi", "mahou shoujo", "magical girl" or what have you. Personally, I subscribe to "Puella Magi" as the correct term (Though I'll readily admit that using the term "mahou shoujo" sets you up for one of the better verbal puns I've heard in my life). However, I am not getting involved in the argument. I don't care what term you use, and you shouldn't care what I use. I'm not going to quibble over terminology; it's like the old debates of Western naming order versus Japanese naming order and Japanese honorifics versus English honorifics. If you don't agree with my choice, that's fine--you don't have to agree with anything I say--but I will not respond to anyone saying that my choice is wrong. I'm not getting involved.
Random Rant: About my oldest fics... I'm not very proud of any of them. The characterization was spotty, the cliches thick, and the writing was just clumsy. I like to pretend that they don't really exist anymore, especially the ones from Naruto, Teen Titans and Star Wars. As such, I don't really consider any of them part of my personal canon anymore, and I only leave them up at all for these reasons. One, people like them, for some reason I will never understand, considering that they are, as I have said, quite horrible. Two, I'm horribly sentimental (no, really); I don't like to get rid of anything I write, not unless it's just brain-breakingly atrocious. Three, I keep them up as a reminder to myself that, yes, I will always have room for improvement, and I will never be a "perfect" author; consider my early, awful works as a needle to be taken to my pride. I did get rid of some of them, but the rest will exist as the needle, until I can't stand having them anymore. If you've read this, thanks for standing this little note. You're well within your rights to like or dislike my older works, even if I do hate them, but consider them part of a different universe (fandom-wise) than the fics I'm putting up now. Rant over.
Note on 'Founders' Series: I am writing a series of oneshots about the Founders of Konohagakure, not limited to but mostly focusing on Hashirama, Madara, Mito, Tobirama and Izuna. Not everything I write for it will be published here; some of it will only be on my Archive of Our Own account (There will be links to those here in my profile). I am operating off of a timeline I created. It may not be completely canon, but quite frankly Kishimoto's made a huge mess of his nonexistent timeline and trying to make sense of it's been giving me massive headaches. And I will tell you that the events themselves are only canon up to chapter 618 of the manga; I'd include 619 but there were some things mentioned there that already don't fit with my timeline (Namely, Hashirama living long enough to actually know Tsunade), so I'm not including it. For everything introduced after that, in terms both of events and characterization, I will do my best to reconcile it with my outline (especially the characterization; that's more important to me than sticking to canon events anyways), but if it just outright contradicts my outline, I will ignore it. And as of chapter 622, this is probably just going to be AU. Oh well. I hope you'll accept my canon-inaccurate, but hopefully still interesting history anyways.
Just to aid you, here are some of the ways in which my series is now definitely AU.
Founders fics published (in chronological order): Home Records, Cataclysm,
Notes on Series I'm writing for The Silmarillion: I have basically fallen in love with AO3's Series feature. For those of you here, here is a list of the works I have written so far for AO3, in chronological order (If I write any for AO3, but choose not to publish them here, there will be links here in my profile):
