Progress and updates on "The Chance of Change" - 07/December/2016
I'M SO SORRY about my latest profile update, where I said I'd finish this story by the end of 2016. Some people have actually sent messages about being excited for it. I was going to finish it by end of 2016, totally. But the I ran headfirst into the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon, and my life ended as I knew it. It's one of those stories that have such a large, detailed universe, that you just can't get enough of it. Plus there's spinoffs for some of the awesome characters. Plus, there's a TV show, too! Yeah. I'm sure you all know the kind of life I've been leading for the past three months... BUT! I'm finally reading the last available book, so I expect to be having my life back any minute now. When that happens, I'll get right back on TCOC. I soooooooo want to finish it. With all this expectation builiding up for years and years, I hope it's not too dissapointing in the end :P
What's left ot TCOC? Roughly, it's 3 more chapters, each split into 2 parts. I'll continue to post cut-versions here due to rating restrictions. But the whole thing can be found at Archive of our Own, under penname piasan. THANK YOU for your unbelievable patience.
Thanks for visiting!
About “The Chance of Change”:
I've been told this story doesn't really start to get its thickness until chapter 5, more or less. Around chapter 7 it gets the right consistency :) Hopefully, you won't be discouraged. Initial chapters, although a rather lame, are not long at all, so you won't have to read long to get hooked, and by then, you'll be happy about the word count!
This story is an alternative universe romance, sprinkled with drama, mixed in with heavy doses of realism. This doesn't mean its not fluffy at times (at lots of times, really). It just means that I've toned down the Ranma 1/2 crazy. I feel the amazing characters from the series could reach further depths, only the nature of the show (not so much the manga, actually) doesn't allow for it to happen. This is as it should be, in any case. There's a reason why we love the series. But I was always wondering about the quiet side of things, and what would happen if these people were, well, normal. At least in some ways.
When I was a teenager, I had a few interesting things happen to me (not many, mind you) that got me inspired. And I started writing “The Chance of Change” during my Junior year in high school. I mapped it all out fairly quickly. It started as a short story that would have 6 chapters, tops. But with time, it became a sort of reflection on life, and a way for me to deal with my own issues through the characters. So, it takes me long to write. It seems I need to mature and change, so that I can transfer those emotions onto the characters. The story is slow to start, although later chapters move a bit more quickly, even if almost nothing ever happens, I'll have to admit. Almost everything is in the character's heads. My posting is even slower, I’m afraid. One chapter a year. Two, if I’m being very productive! But because the characters and their feelings are very dear to me, this is a story I have no doubt I’ll finish writing. If you’re here for the first time, I’m sure readers that have stuck around the story since it started can attest to this. Slowly but surely, the story will be finished, some day. I beg for your patience.
