me, myself and I. Logged in based on which C2 I need to add stories to.

It’s ironic.

When I worked in fast food for minimum wage, they would yell at us and lecture us about “stealing” fries and burgers (while we had to throw out TONS of food every day) as though the giant billion-dollar corporations of McDonald’s and Sonic couldn’t afford to give their employees something to eat (while not even paying us a living wage).

Now I work at an upscale restaurant (it’s fancy, like celebrities eat there fairly often) and not only do I make WAY better money but they give us 2 free meals a day (eaten on the clock) and they’re GOOD. Today I got baked cod, spring rolls, rice pilaf, stir fry, and mashed potatoes and eggplant. Oh, and free espresso and juice. From this restaurant owned by a local man who is in no way a billionaire.

Obviously money is not the issue, valuing your employees as people is. — cloverclark

it’s so weird when people are like “ohh everyone’s too oversensitive and politically correct these days, you’re all just mean to anyone who disagrees with you!” because it’s so easy to turn that around? like maybe you’re the one being oversensitive when people point out that you’re doing something shitty and instead of just stopping and looking critically at your actions you start crying about how “political correctness” has gone too far and how everyone is angry at and being mean to you.

imo the people complaining about that stuff are the ones who actually want to be coddled because they don’t like it when people don’t sugar-coat their criticisms of acts of bigotry — joltick

satire is “I’m going to take this concept to an extreme or absurd level in order to demonstrate how bizarre/nonsensical/illogical it is” and not “I said something bigoted but just kidding I didn’t really mean it hahaha” — exeggcute

'political correctness kills creativity' if you can't create something without furthering the oppression of minorities, you aren’t a very creative person. — curseboxes

All these people think “political correctness” and “social justice” are sudden, inexplicable plagues upon the internet because they now get yelled at if they say something shitty.

But the truth is, social media has just grown to the point where your internet posts are far, far more public. That’s it. That’s the difference.

If you stood on a street corner and spouted racist jokes even forty years ago, you would probably get garbage thrown at you or your lights punched out sooner or later. This is just the real world. You can learn to play nicely with others or you can stay out of it. — bogleech

Oppressed People: Society treats me unfairly and I never feel safe.

Privileged People: Unless it’s literally every member of a privileged group bullying you, you need to shut up and accept it, otherwise you’re just as bad as them. — theconcealedweapon

Dear white people, please have all the seats. Y’all make all kinds of excuses to use the n-word, to call me a chink, to tell my brown friends to go back to their country, to make them apologize for 9/11, tell me to get over racism cuz ‘slavery ended 400 years ago’, tell me that ‘I’m just appreciating Indians by wearing this headdress’, oh, but the second BuzzFeed makes a post about liking Starbucks we’re being racist and perpetuating stereotypes. Oh. Okay. That’s cool. You have your television shows and music videos and billboard ads and magazine covers and movies that feature 99.99% white people but the second that I step up and ask if I can have a t.v. show that positively represents Asians I’m asking for too much. That’s just too much to handle right now what with all the white people blazoned across every media outlet. And before any of you think about responding with some baseless comment like, “These stereotypes are really bad; they reinforce segregation” just know that no one is killing you for these stereotypes. It does not affect you getting a job, or being objectified. Your ancestors erased entire histories and communities and you benefit from this so don’t try and read me because I made a joke about you wearing Uggs and liking Starbucks.

Edit: One more thing, don’t use the ‘we’re all human’ excuse or the ‘I have a/n (insert race here) friend’ or the ‘I don’t see colour’ argument. Yes, we’re all human, but our life experiences are different, your small group of (insert race here) friends doesn’t mean you can say whatever slur you want, and ignoring colour invalidates and delegitmizes people’s identity, history, and stories, just cuz you don’t wanna talk about it. — Sean Kua

If you’re pushing a woman to change her behavior to ‘prevent’ rape, rather than telling a perpetrator to change his, you’re really saying ‘make sure he rapes the other girl.’ — We deserve to live full lives: Another view

The Great Celebrity Naked Photo Leak of 2014 – or perhaps we should call it The Great Celebrity Naked Photo Leak of August 2014, given that this happens so often that there won’t be only one this year – is meant to remind women of their place. Don’t get too high and mighty, ladies. Don’t step out of line. Don’t do anything to upset or disappoint men who feel entitled to your time, bodies, affection or attention. Your bared body can always be used as a weapon against you. You bared body can always be used to shame and humiliate you. Your bared body is at once desired and loathed. — Roxane Gay

When you say things like “well when girls dress like that, what do you expect?”, you are saying:

1) Women’s bodies are inherently deserving of harassment and abuse and rape

2) Men are inherently abusive rapists

And both of these sentiments are horrifying and say a hell of a lot more about you than anyone else. - Jane

If no little girl is too young to experience sexual predation from her peers (let’s be real this shit starts in pre-school if not sooner) no teenage boy is too young to be shamed/punished for bullying girls, consuming pornography, or committing sexual assault. Boys grow into men who think these norms of violence are acceptable at the expense of the girls blamed for their own victimhood. Girls have to grow up too quickly and boys never do. — somethinglickedthiswaycums

It makes me so incredibly angry that whenever someone accuses another person of rape, rape apologists bring up false accusations.

“Well, how do you know they were raped? They could be lying!”

What, do you want me to bring in a fucking signed slip that says that I was raped? According to the FBI, about 2% of rape accusations are false. Is it wrong? Yes. Is it deplorable to accuse someone of such a heinous crime? Hell yes, but what kind of asshole are you to ignore/doubt/challenge the other 98%?

More often than not, what do people have to gain? Reliving their horror, the embarrassment of knowing that others know, the fear that you may never been seen as anything than the alleged rape victim? For years I’ve been “X’s victim” or that poor little girl that was raped. What do myself (or the other 98%) have to gain from lying about rape?

Stop doubting rape victims because of that 2% that do lie. — proudly-pro-choice

Note: Saying things like “Not everything has to be about race or gender!!! I’m so tired of it! Just look at the message/story and don’t pay attention to representation (or lack thereof)! I see everyone as exactly the same, why can’t you??!!”

is code for: “Your desire to be represented and respected in media and the world at large is annoying and/or boring to me because I personally don’t understand or care about this problem; I don’t want to have to think about those things, or have to think critically about anything, or learn to find a way to enjoy something while still also being able to recognize that others might have a problem with one aspect of it. But I still feel the need to butt in to your conversation to scold you for daring to mention that there might be a problem.” — Julie Dillon

straight people on tv show: *literally have sex*

gay people on tv show: *exist*

ok.. :\ but… ok like im not homophobic… :\ im ok with gay people but why do you have to shove it in my face… :\ — jizzkin

I once told a joke about a straight person.

They came after me in droves.

Each one singing the same:

Don’t fight fire with fire.

What they mean is: Don’t fight fire with anything.

Do not fight fire with water.

Do not fight fire with foam.

Do not evacuate the people.

Do not sound the alarms.

Do not crawl coughing and choking and spluttering to safety.

Do not barricade the door with damp towels.

Do not wave a white flag out of the window.

Do not take the plunge from several storeys up.

Do not shed a tear for your lover trapped behind a wall of flame.

Do not curse the combination of fuel, heat, and oxygen.

Do not ask why the fire fighters are not coming.

When they say: Don’t fight fire with fire.

What they mean is: Stand and burn. — claudiaboleyn

straight people really think that i dont want to be around homophobes because i find their “opinions” unsavory like its disagreeing on economic policy or some shit. the reality is that i dont want to be around homophobic people because they pose a direct threat to me, because i am terrified of them and the potential violence they bring, because feeling their judgment is enough to make me lean back into self hatred and shame. please dont act like my refusal to chill with your local bigot is obstinate and unreasonable — elliebeanz.

Systematic Sexism & Sexist Double Standards in Geek Culture & Excerpts from Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is

You’ve gotta work to unlearn systems of oppression you don’t personally experience, just like all men have to actively unlearn sexist behaviors they’re used to being rewarded for. This isn’t something to be offended by, it’s just something to work on. — nomoremrnicespice

A friend of mine posted something about catcalling and street harassment. To the absolute shock of … well, pretty much nobody, the very first comment on her post was a guy explaining why women shouldn’t be afraid of catcalling, and isn’t it funny how the women complaining aren’t the ones experiencing the “privilege” of being catcalled in the first place? Also, women wouldn’t be afraid if they carried guns, and the real threat are guys “in a dark van with no windows parked next to your car in the Walmart parking lot.”

His suggestion? “Now what would happen if a woman who’s the center of the cat call took the power back, walked up to the offending rake and asked for his number and told him to show a little respect and maybe if he was lucky she’d let him earn the opportunity to do some real cat calling?”

This is the point where I facepalmed so hard I gave myself a concussion.

Guys, is it really that hard to shut the hell up and listen instead of immediately trying to tell women why they’re wrong about their own lives and experiences?

It’s pathetically predictable.

  1. Woman complains about harassment.
  2. Dudebro feels uncomfortable.
  3. Dudebro tells woman why she’s wrong to feel that way.

Because Dudebro’s discomfort at women complaining about harassment is somehow more important and valid than women’s discomfort about actually being harassed.

The CDC put out a report this year about sexual violence, after completing more than 12,000 interviews. They found that one in five women have been raped in their lifetimes, and 99% of those rapes were committed by men. (The report states that about two percent of men were raped as well, which I strongly suspect is an underestimate. They also found that approximately 80% of those rapes were also committed by men.)

“But I’m not like those other men,” says Dudebro, waving the “Not All Men” flag with righteous pride.

Then stop acting like them.

- When a woman says she’s uncomfortable with something and wants you to knock it off, stop arguing. Stop telling her she’s wrong, and stop making excuses to keep doing it.

- Stop pretending it’s about complimenting women. (Here’s a tip: Compliments don’t go from, “Hey baby” to “Fuck you, you stuck-up bitch” in the blink of an eye.)

- Stop treating women as objects you’re entitled to instead of people.

You seriously want women to believe you’re not an asshole and a potential threat? Start by shutting up for a minute and actually listening to what women are saying. — Another Day, Another Mansplainer by Jim C. Hines

Equality doesn't mean Justice.

Interesting how we’re always hearing how shameful and irresponsible it is to be a teen mom.

But we never hear the same messages directed at teen dads.

Or even the words “teen dad”.

It’s almost like society demonizes women’s sexuality and sexual choices while absolving men of all sexual responsibility and judgment. — misandry-mermaid

The idea that the white wedding dress is “an honor that is earned from chastity and virtue” is historically bullshit.
In the west the white wedding dress has it’s origins in the Victorian era, specifically in the white dress Queen Victoria wore in her marriage to Prince Albert. At the time, red was the most popular color for upper-class women to wear at their wedding, and her wedding dress was sort of the contemporary version of Lady Gaga wearing some outlandish outfit to a red carpet event. (She also eschewed the ermine and crown traditional for a queen to wear, which was quite startling to many people.)
After that, a pure white dress became a fashionable way for wealthy, upper-class women to show off their money. Because a pure white dress would quickly yellow and could be ruined by a single spill or a little dirt in an era before 20th century laundering techniques, a white wedding dress was a way of saying “that’s right bitches, I’m so rich I can afford to have this beautiful, elaborate gown made for me and I’m only going to wear it once. Plus odds are good I’ll never work a day in my life or come into contact with anything that might soil it so yeah, great to be me, right?”
Connotations of spiritual purity and eventually virginity only came years later, when the idea of a “white wedding” began to appear in etiquette and housekeeping guidebooks. Even then, it was more because these qualities were associated with upper-class women rather than because the white dress was an honor earned through keeping hands off one’s genitals. Even then, most women just wore their best church dress to their wedding for quite a while. It was the image of thew white wedding dress in post WWII Hollywood movies that finally cemented it as a standard and iconic part of the culture.
Nowadays of course, the American wedding is an orgy of conspicuous consumption, and every woman regardless of her financial situation is expected to get married in a dress she’ll never wear again.
tl;dr, that tradition you’re so keen on protecting has less to do with virginity than is does with showing off big wads of cash. — thesnadger

Looks like we need to have a conversation about false equivalences.

It’s deeply disingenuous to say that homophobia and heterophobia are the same thing, are two sides of the same coin. Transphobia and cisphobia aren’t some equitable mirror images of each other.

Homophobia, transphobia, these things are institutional, they are systematic, they are embedded in centuries of cultural norms, coded in language, written into law, and framed as natural. These things are ubiquitous and pose real tangible threats of harm and violence to marginalized communities.

Cisphobia and heterophobia, are not. They are reactions to abuse, they are responses to oppression. They lack the severity, the structural support, and the prevalence to do the harm that their “counterparts” do. Their roots are different, their effects are different, their contexts are different. — fandomsandfeminism

The Problem a.k.a Here’s society’s view on mothers:

Have kids in your teens: you’re too young, too uneducated and definitely irresponsible, and everyone will assume your child was an accident. And if you *did* get pregnant on purpose, then clearly you have deep-seated emotional issues, low self esteem, and no worthy aspirations. Also, you now have no prospects, either. Congrats!

Have kids in your twenties: you’re putting your career on hold and possibly curtailing your adventures in higher education, and as such are probably a brainwashed victim of the patriarchy; plus, shouldn’t you be out having fun and celebrating your youth? There’s plenty of time for kids later!

Have kids in your thirties: you’ve probably just freaked out about your ticking biological clock, despite the fact that you’ve clearly left it too late for safety’s sake. I mean, everyone KNOWS the quality of your eggs declines after 35, and anyway, you’ve just spent all this time building up a career, only to hamstring yourself with kids at the worst possible moment. Essentially, then, you’re selfish with no sense of timing.

Have kids in your forties or later: you’re WAY too old to be doing this and probably irresponsible as a result; at the very least, you won’t have enough energy for parenting, and the rest of the world should pity you accordingly.

Conclusion: Society secretly thinks that, somewhere between their 29th and 30th birthdays, all women experience a Magical Mezzanine Decade wherein they’re expected to find a partner, gain a career, become financially stable, fall pregnant and have 2.5 children without actually ageing either bodily or in fact, so that once it’s over, they can truthfully claim to have lived an appropriately wild and adventurous twenties while simultaneously being set to turn 30 with kids, a career and the perfect work-life balance already in place. Any woman who fails to do this is clearly just being intransigent, having consciously failed to use her Magical Mezzanine Decade to full effect - which, of course, makes her either selfish, stupid or both.

It should be noted, of course, that any woman who claims at any age not to want children is necessarily unnatural, unsympathetic or wrong. To whit:

Not wanting kids in your teens: you’re too young to know what you’re talking about - but don’t worry. You’ll know better once you’re older, sweetheart. Just wait and see.

Not wanting kids in your twenties: you’re an irresponsible feminazi party-girl who’s probably been brainwashed through prolonged exposure to a Liberal Arts education. Either that, or you’re just bitter you can’t keep a boyfriend.

Not wanting kids in your thirties: you’re a cold-hearted, selfish, career-oriented bitch with less human sentiment than a box of paperclips. Also, you’re probably bitter than you never had them earlier (see above, re: Magical Mezzanine Decade).

Not wanting kids in your forties or later: you’re in denial about having left it far too late to try, and are just trying to compensate accordingly. Or you could just be a screaming harpy. Or both.

By contrast, here’s how it works for men:

Having kids at any age: congrats on your fertility! Clearly, your decision to embrace fatherhood, whatever your personal circumstances, is a profound demonstration of your maturity, sensitivity and acceptance of family values. Should you go the extra step of taking paternity leave, doing any traditionally female-oriented babytasks (such as, for instance, all of them) and otherwise acting like a Sensitive New-Age Guy, please present your fatherhood card at Subway, where you will be given All The Cookies as a reward. (Always bearing in mind that adopting a traditionally masculine, pater familias role will be lauded, too. It’s cool, dude: whatever works for you. We’re flexible!) If, on the other hand, you didn’t want to have kids, but the mother forced you into it somehow, please accept all our sympathies! We’ll be right there to back you up with lots of eyerolling about women, ball-and-chain jokes, and low expectations for paternal involvement generally.

Not wanting kids at any age: well, duh. You’re a guy. Why would you?

Which doesn’t even touch on the absolutely explosive bullshit faced by anyone who isn’t cisgendered, straight, financially secure and/or married/engaged, let alone the specifically poisonous and deeply racist stereotypes surrounding POC parents, with special emphasis on single black mothers. Or the related, extraneous clusterfuck of arguments surrounding abortion. Or adoption, for that matter. Or international adoption. Or interracial adoption. Or the foster system. Or pretty much any mechanism whatever through which parenting either occurs or is controlled.

Conclusion: there isn’t enough headdesk, tableflip and facepalm in the world to adequately convey how fucked-up our views on the various intersections between parenting, gender, race, class and sexuality really are, and coincidentally, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Don’t make someone’s abortion about you

Steven Moffat is a Douchebag - The Masterlist

"There’s this issue you’re not allowed to discuss: that women are needy. Men can go for longer, more happily, without women. That’s the truth. We don’t, as little boys, play at being married - we try to avoid it for as long as possible. Meanwhile women are out there hunting for husbands."

"Well, the world is vastly counted in favour of men at every level - except if you live in a civilised country and you’re sort of educated and middle-class, because then you’re almost certainly junior in your relationship and in a state of permanent, crippled apology. Your preferences are routinely mocked. There’s a huge, unfortunate lack of respect for anything male." — Steven Moffat, Scotsman Interview 06-06-04

Russell was explaining the idea of ‘Mary-Sues’ to Jeanette, who’d never heard of them. It was all about how people are being put off from writing before they even start by online bullying in writing forums. People – women, mostly – were being accused of creating ‘Mary-Sue’ characters. ‘It’s a pejorative term, apparently. For when people use a version of themselves in the fiction. And they’re being told they shouldn’t be using them in their stories. […] But you can’t win. These women who were being put off from entering this writing competition, or posting their fiction online, they were being told that – even if you made your character quite unlike yourself – you could be a Victorian nun with a limp – it’s still you, in disguise. They’re being told: it’s still all about you!’Russell T. Davies on ‘Mary Sues’

let me explain something

even if this is brainwashing

even if this is just an act

even if this gets retconned

even if this is nothing more than a dumb publicity stunt

it is part of an on-going trend at marvel that shows the appalling lack of respect they have for jewish characters and creators and the bizarre, sickening romanticizing of hydra, a nazi organization.

steve rogers is the creation of two jewish men who took a stand against nazism at a time when it was not popular to do so, and they received many threats for doing so. he was intended to be political; the first thing you see him do is punch hitler in the face. even if this new twist ends up being reversed or made into an elaborate ruse, we now know that marvel is willing to jeopardize this legacy for publicity. they don’t see it as disrespectful to toy around and twist the creation of two jewish men like this.

wanda maximoff and pietro maximoff, the jewish-romani children of holocaust survivors, are actively having their jewish heritage erased by marvel higher ups who say thing like “can you point me to a single story, just one, in which the ‘fact’ that wanda and pietro come from a jewish background is in any way relevant?”. not only this, but their jewish identities are being erased in the mcu and replaced with christian identities (wanda has a cross hanging in her room), while also re-imagining them as hydra nazi volunteers. this from the same mcu that routinely hires jewish actors and actresses and then erases their identities such as with natalie portman, kat dennings, rdj, gwyneth paltrow, and paul rudd; in the cases of some jewish actors like jon berthanal they actively replace his jewish identity with a christian one by making the punisher a (lapsed) catholic.

all the while they continue to glamorize the nazi organization hydra, playing up the meme status of “hail hydra”, having their employees wear hydra merch and describe themselves as hydra in their twitter bios. they even released a comic about an agent of hydra, intended to be a comedy, slice of life thing. you were intended to feel bad for hank, the protagonist, because he just saw it as a job and joined because of the tough economy, ignoring the fact that this was the case for many real world nazis as well. magneto, a jewish holocaust survivor, was villainized and basically held responsible for endangering the world because he attempted to kill the red skull, a nazi who was setting up new concentration camps. it was also the title in which his paternal relationship with wanda and pietro was erased. the series name was axis.

this is not cute. this is not the type of stuff that can or should be ignored. this is just further proof of a seriously alarming trend going on at marvel, where they think flirting with nazi organizations is fun and ignoring and actively erasing the identities of jewish characters and the contributions of jewish creators is okay. do. not. ignore. this. — nativehueofresolution

The Butterfly Effect The smallest change can affect the world in ways that no one could imagine. Ryuuzaki Sakuno as you've never seen her before. SakunoXMany. Because yes she's just that lucky.

The Daddy Thing Kushina's early demise changes everything. Who said that mothers were more important than fathers?

The Indecipherable Riddle The summer after fourth year Harry goes through some big changes and makes a shocking discovery. What will it mean when Harry isn't exactly who he had thought he was? And how will this change his future?

The Rise of a Dark Lord {Harry x Voldemort} Dumbledore was sure he had made the right choice. Ten years later Harry shows him just how wrong he was. With little regard for most, Harry makes a name for himself at Hogwarts, and shows everyone that he is far more than just the BWL. In doing that he attracts the attention of the Dark Lord, making Voldemort believe that the Boy-Who-Lived could be far more than an enemy.

The Thief of Hogwarts {Harry x Fleur} AU Young Harry learns to steal as he is fed up from his deprivation of his wants and needs by his guardians. A Thief is born in Privet Drive.

To Shape and Change AU. Time Travel. Snape goes back in time, holding the knowledge of what is to come if he fails. No longer holding a grudge, he seeks to shape Harry into the greatest wizard of all time, starting on the day Hagrid took Harry to Diagon Alley. No Horcruxes. [complete]

To the Waters and the Wild {Harry x Voldemort} While flying back from Godric's Hollow, Hagrid accidentally drops baby Harry over a wild forest. Harry is raised by rebel fairies until his Hogwarts letter arrives. The Dark Lord is in for a surprise...

Trust Is A Relative Thing What if Petunia put the blame where it belonged instead of on Harry? OOC Petunia Dursley

Twins My spin on the Harry Potter has a twin storyline. Only, in this story, people don't seem to realise. Odd that.

Water Sharing The Saiyans fear half-Saiyan half-human hybrids and decree that all half-breeds must be killed at birth. Bulma escapes with Trunks and she and Chichi hide out on Planet Namek to raise their sons together. Back on Earth, a revolution against the Saiyan overlords is brewing. They just need a leader to rally around and warriors powerful enough to take on the Saiyans.

Winter's Dragon {Robb x Daenerys} An AU in which Daenerys does not escape from Dragonstone with her brother and is raised at Winterfell.
