Author has written 3 stories for Life With Derek, and Harry Potter.
Hello all. My Pen Name is actually the name of one of my favorite book characters. If your interested in a good fantasy novel then try The City of Towers by Keith Baker. It is part one of a Dungeons & Dragons book trilogy set in the Eberron Campaign World. But, it could also be a stand alone read as well.
I've probably been coming to this site since around 2000 to read all the great stories that have been posted.
My main interests are Harry Potter, Star Wars, Prince of Persia, Castle, and Life with Derek.
I started out writing a Life with Derek fic, but got a huge case of writers block and couldn't finish it. I have now started on an Alternate Universe Harry Potter set of fics that I am going to call the Not Quite series. And I also have a couple of other AU Harry Potter ideas, though I'm not sure if they will meld into the Not Quite series or become their own sets of stories.
I was often asked by my real life friends, and some online ones as well, who I would have paired Harry with if I had written the books. There isn't an easy answer to this question as I see there are several girls that I could see his character being attracted to. And sorry to burst anyones bubble, but Ginny Weasley isn't one of the people that I see him falling for.
In the books she isn't officially introduced until the second book, in which she acts like a typical "fan girl". Always blushing around Harry and acting overly shy. Then she drops off the radar until book five where she is fleshed out a little more, except for a few minor references in books three and four, but still not much. Then in book six she is mentioned a few times at the beginning as being very talented at certain charms and hexes. Half to three-quarters of the way through book six she is spending more time with Harry and the others partly due to being in the Slug Club, then suddenly she and Harry are dating. To me this pattern just doesn't make sense, one could say that Rowling was focusing more on just the action the other books, but come on is it too much to ask for a little realistic foreshadowing in the prior books to help us accept or believe what sounds like a forced/contrived concept.
Another strike against that relationship is the fact that it is mentioned in the books how much Ginny resembles Harry's mother. Now I know there is a saying about all little boys want to marry someone like their mothers, but that is taking it a little far. Now my mother has red hair, and I admit to preferring redheads over brunettes and blondes, but it would be creepy and gross if I dated or married a girl that looked like my mother.
Which brings me part of the way through my explanation of who I could see Harry with. In the books there are only four females who treat Harry like a normal person, that is, who have very much interaction with him.
They are in order of interaction: Hermione Granger, Minerva McGonagall, Nymphadora Tonks, and Luna Lovegood. However, pairing him with McGonagall would be creepy as well. Also before anyone tries to flame or correct me, I know that when Hermione first meets him on the train in the first book, she kind of geeks out a little cause she had read a lot about him. However, once she has been around Harry for a little while, she doesn't treat him any different than she does anyone else.
So the pairing that I enjoy and would most likely write are listed below.
Harry Potter Main Pairings:
Harry Potter/Hermione Granger: Okay here is the seminal best friend that has never abandoned him, always helped and been there for him, never doubted him... And I could go on but don't feel it is necessary. This pairing just makes sense to me.
Harry Potter/Luna Lovegood: Though a bit odd at times I really like the character of Luna. Most of her "Loony" personality comes across as an act to me. Plus with the rough childhood Harry has had, Luna with her somewhat carefree attitude/personality, would be like a breath of fresh air for him to be around.
Harry Potter/Nymphadora Tonks: I prefer this a little over the Lupin/Tonks pairing, though I have nothing against the latter. I can also see Harry being able to get away with calling her "Dora" or "Nym". And if I did the math right then she would have been a seventh year when Harry was a first year so the age difference isn't that big a deal.
Harry Potter/Daphne Greengrass: This in an odd pairing, we aren't told much about her in the books other than she is in Slytherin House and that her younger sister marries Draco Malfoy. But I have been read several very well written stories on here and like this pairing.
Harry Potter/Katie Bell: Again not much is said about her in the books. We know she is his teammate and I could see them both coming together through their love of playing Quidditch. And neither seems like a psycho fan like Ron Weasley or Oliver Wood.
On a side note, I have recently gotten into reading Harry/multi, or Harry in a plural marriage. I'm not sure why, given that as a general rule I don't agree with polyamorous relationships. They just seem to complicated to me. Maybe because I sometimes like a complicated plot in the stories I read, and that definitely leads to one.
I'll try and come up with more to add to this later.
Well hope that answers some questions. Feel free to PM me if you are curious about something or if you are interested in being a Beta for some of my stories.
