A Twilight Fanfiction Contest themed to the Winter Olympics and Paralympics 2010.

Using the Olympics or Paralympics as a main theme or a backdrop, write us a story that will inspire. Get our hearts burning – with pride, with love, with angst, with sorrow, with humor. Engage our emotions but please don’t have us wincing at your grammar.

The Winter Olympics are between February 12th and February 28th 2010 and the Winter Paralympics between March 12th and March 21st 2010, both in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The motto of the Games is ‘With Glowing Hearts’ and you will notice that Valentine’s Day occurs in this time frame.

80 nations are taking part in 86 different events. As well as athletes there are a plethora of others involved, including trainers, officials, medical staff, media, families, etc. The story opportunities are endless!

Must feature the 2010 Winter Olympics or Paralympics in some way.

All entries will be anonymous to encourage new authors to post their stories without feeling overwhelmed. Entrants are welcome to promote the contest itself, but not their own story, nor may they take any action that reveals them as a particular story’s author. Stories may not be published or posted on any other site. Any entrant violating this rule will be disqualified and their story removed from the contest.

A good standard of grammar is expected. Entries should be free of any major spelling or grammatical errors. You are strongly advised to use a beta.

There is no age or rating restriction, but rating must be appropriate to the age of the author.

Collaborations are acceptable.

Must be a one-shot, and must be a new story written specifically for this contest, not an outtake or reworking of an existing story. Entries should not have previously or concurrently been entered into another competition. Entries should not have any other association that compromises the anonymity of the author.

The one-shot cannot be continued until the contest is complete.

No entry limit. You may write as many entries as you like.

A maximum of 12,000 words not including header, disclaimer, AN etc.
(Note that this is somewhat flexible. Email withaburningheart@gmail.com if you have questions.)

There are no specifics on POV, and all categories (AU, AH, Canon, OOC) and genres will be accepted.

Graphic content or difficult subject matter should not be gratuitous or appear to promote dubious or illegal acts. Any necessary warnings should be made in an Author’s Note at the beginning. Entries that are deemed inappropriate will not be accepted.

Contest entries must be received no later than 11:59pm PST Tuesday February 9th, 2010. (New deadline!)

Public vote will last for the duration of the Olympics, starting when the flame is lit and ending when it is extinguished.

We reserve the right to make minor adjustments to dates and/or rules should that become necessary.

All entries must be submitted via email to withaburningheart@gmail.com and must not be posted or published anywhere else. Since the contest is anonymous to the public, please be sure to include the following in the body of your submission email. All identifying details will be stripped before the entry is passed along to the judges.

All entries will be posted to the With a Burning Heart FFnet account as soon as they have been received via email and validated.

All entries will be read and validated by With a Burning Heart and the stories that have NOT met the contest criteria will be returned to their authors. Authors are encouraged to rework their submissions and resubmit them prior to the deadline.

After the conclusion of the contest and the announcement of the winners, entrants are free to add their stories to their individual FFnet accounts. Please include an author's note in the story that it was an entry into the With a Burning Heart contest. (This could avoid accusations of plagiarism later.)

If necessary the number of entries will be reduced by a judges poll before the public vote to bring the number below 20 stories.

Voting will be done by Reader's Choice in a blind poll on the With a Burning Heart FFnet account.

Special Judges awards will also be made including one for the best story featuring the Winter Paralympics.

The winner and the 2nd and 3rd place stories will be given a button to sport in their signature.

All winners will be added to the With a Burning Heart Favorite Stories and Favorite Authors.

This competition is being hosted by adoraklutz, lulubelle28 and dihenydd

adoraklutz is handling all the administration and will be the only person to know the identities of the authors.

The following panel of judges will validate entries before acceptance, shortlist entries before the public vote (if necessary) and select stories for special mentions. None of the judges will either write or beta for the competition.
