HARRY POTTER: HALLOWEEN PUNISHMENT: Harry Potter is punished for missing the Halloween Feast and it all changes there. What happens to Harry and his attitude when no one even considers it from his own point of view? My own entry is on my Bunnies thread, chapter 26
EARLIER CHALLENGE: UNINFORMED HARRY: Harry Potter arrived to Hogwarts unaware of the true circumstances behind his parents death and for some reason he doesn't find out. You must explain how the information never made it to him and what occurs because of it. I've done three responses to this, one of which is pretty tragic. That was Chapter 14 of my bunnies thread. Chapter 15 had a similar response without the tragedy. The original was: "The Boy Who Never Knew"
06/13/16 -- working on different stories. Any adult content will be under the same name on the .org site for adult-fanfiction. Same user name. I tend to use that one because I understand that site. AO3 makes me confused.
I'll eventually finish all the stories. I know some have been waiting for years for me to finish A Different Universe -- I'll get there, eventually. Same for my Aternate Dumbledore fic.
Sorry for whomever will get offended – because I know SOMEONE will be offended for SOME reason or another.
I am, as many people have commented on in reviews, very good at accurately depicting the attitudes and mentalities of the characters I write about. That means that bigots sound like bigots, religious people sound religious, and the basic personality will usually match canon -- as much as possible.
ON CURRENT EVENTS:
My good thoughts and prayers towards those who suffered and those who lost someone in that horrible attack in Orla1ndo. Disliking LGBTs just because they are there is just as bad or worse than disliking any other member of society. You don’t have to like them – but give them the same respect you give anyone else and acknowledge that they have the same rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that any other American has a right to.
A Guest reviewer mentioned that I sound homophobic … not true. I try to write with the mentality of the society I'm writing about as I see it actually is. I’m not into slash and would never write it, but I’m not against those who have other lifestyles than my own. I’m not interested in observing it either, but I have at least learned to accept offers from other men, when they have given them to me, and politely decline. (Yeah – I guess I’m the ‘bear type’ whatever that means.) So: Homophobic? No. Interested? No. Particularly care? Not really. Willing to add it to my stories? Not likely.
I occasionally get different negative comments about my being "too religious" -- if it offends you, I'm sorry. The funny thing is that I'm not Christian, Muslim or Jewish. I do have a deep understanding of them and I highly respect religion. I use religion in some of my writings because at times I think it's appropriate. Sometimes, some characters from different fandoms are religious and I write them that way. For example, in the West Wing, anyone who watches that show knows that President Josiah Bartlet is characterized as being extremely religious in his personal life and a devout Roman Catholic. So that's how I write him and his reactions and his beliefs.
I don't touch on race that much. Honestly, mostly this is because I don't care to. In my personal life, I look like the average middle-aged WASP -- but I'm not. To be perfectly honest, white people freak me out sometimes. I'm far more nervous walking toward a group of white teenagers than I am a group of black teens, Latinos, Arabs, or whatever. Perhaps that's a product of growing up in some on the toughest neighborhoods of Detroit for most of my pre-adult years. I've also lived near some of the tougher Latino neighborhoods of Los Angeles. You tend to be more comfortable with what you're familiar with -- or more scared of it as you know it better.
Personally, I'm far more nervous around ultra-right-wing Christian fundamentalists with gun fetishes than I ever am around pretty much any other group. They keep trying to convert me whenever religion comes up. Pray for me if you like, but please don't try to make me change my beliefs. Atheists also tend to try to force those around them to act like Atheists as well -- that offends me just as much. I don't
Terrorists are terrorists -- whether Muslim or Christian or something else. Muslims, as a general rule, are open, friendly, and accepting people. Sorry to burst your bubble. It you ever have opportunity, accept an invitation to dinner in a middle-eastern Muslim home. You will be hard pressed to be treated better as a guest anywhere else. In such a home, a guest's comfort is of the utmost importance -- as long as you don't get too friendly with the daughters (that's a joke, folks -- even if it also tends to be true).
Anyway -- if you get offended by anything I write, I apologize. But I will not change my beliefs or attitudes. They work for me -- that doesn't mean that my beliefs will work for you. That's why I try to avoid spouting my beliefs at people.
