Well, whaddya know? Someone actually bothered to click into my profile! I'm honoured, really, I am. :)
So, since you've come here, I'll assume you want me to tell you a little about me, my writing, and the like. And I shouldn't disappoint you, so here goes nothing! :)
First off, lets start with some random facts about me, shall we? Or, would you rather I write a 10,000 word essay about every single detail of my life for your reading enjoyment? No? I didn't think so. ;)
-My name is Jenny (NOT Jennifer. Never call me Jennifer, I'm warning you right now. It's NOT the same name.). But I answer to pretty much anything, so you can choose whatever name floats your boat.
-I live in Canada, for those who missed the little flag up there, and are curious. I know there are those who will probably want to kill me for saying this, but personally, I think that where I live is one of the most beautiful places you'll ever visit. So come on over! We're really very friendly, just a little more subdued and reserved than the Americans. :) And, don't listen to the rumours-- Not all of us wear giant beaver hats wherever we go, drink maple syrup by the liter, worship salmon, and say "eh" a lot. (Though salmon really is very tasty, you've gotta admit.)
-My roots reside at the other side of the world, and English is not technically my native language. So yeah, I'm bilingual. But you'll never catch me writing Outsiders fanfiction in a language other than English. That would just... feel absolutely wrong.
-I simply love reading. And I'm sure this fact will never change, for as long as I live. I'm a total bookworm and proud of it.
-I dislike manga, comic books, and graphic novels. (To me they're pretty much the same thing, anyway, but I'll list them separately just out of respect...) The pictures drive me absolutely crazy...they take every single ounce of room for imagination out of the story.
-Writing is my one and only true creative outlet, and grammar matters to me. A lot. Typos and honest ignorance is okay, of course, but utter disregard for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling without the slightest urge to improve just annoys me beyond measure. Maybe this is why I hate chat-speak so much... That being said, I'm no grammar nazi. I don't think you can be when the sole book you're writing for is the Outsiders, ya dig? ;)
-My favourite book is the Outsiders, but Harry Potter is a very, very close runner-up. They're actually closer to being on the same level. I only write fanfiction for the Outsiders, though, with a couple crossovers thrown in for good measure.
-I can't wink or raise one eyebrow. Trust me, I've tried. A lot. I did recently figure out how to whistle, though. All thanks to the Outsiders. xD
-How old am I? I'm fourteen. Yep, the average age of writers on this site, I'm thinking. And I plan to make this year last, 'cause you're only Pony's age once. ;)
And now let's proceed to the fanfiction section of this profile...
-My favourite Outsiders character, no competition whatsoever, is Ponyboy Curtis. I tend to like main characters the best in general, because you know so much about them that they feel like real people, but Ponyboy beats all of the other favourites by a mile. I just love everything about him, from his thoughts to his personality. :)
-I really really really like of Pony-angst fics, or just any angst-fics that deal with the Curtis family. But Ponyboy ones are the best. He's just so huggable and golden and sensitive that you feel compelled to read about what he would be like at his breaking point, y'know? It's horrible and heartwrenching to read about, but the emotion that these fics are almost always filled to the brim with are just irresistible. And yes, I'm also a sucker for fluff or just any kind of sentimentality in stories or movies. I don't really show it outwardly in real life though. (I'm the person who'll avoid hugs from non-family members at all cost and will roll their eyes at declarations of emotion. From real people, that is.) Wonder why.
-I have a love/hate relationship with Soda-dying-in-Vietnam fics. Because in some ways, they're what the God of the Outsiders universe, Susie Hinton, planned to happen, and who are we to ignore the word of God? And there are tons of fanfiction possiblities with the planned storyline...
But they just seem too real to me. I mean, a really well-written one could possibly be something that actually happens later in the universe, and that just makes it horribly sad. The Curtises have already had enough death to deal with... Soda dying would be too cruel. I mean, he holds the family together! What would happen to Darry and Pony if he just died, all of a sudden? I don't even want to think about how they'd deal... And plus, I have a feeling that it'd be the final straw for Ponyboy's innocence. Nothing gold can stay...
-ALL the characters do have more than one side... They're not one-dimensional. For example, Johnny is NOT some puppy that's scared and nervous 24/7-- He's tough, loyal, brave, and has great survival instincts too. Staying in character is ten times more important than good grammar, and there are two authors on here that are experts at both-- FeistyFeist and calla lilly rose. Go read their stuff if you haven't already! You'll be stunned at the sheer quality and brilliance of their stories. I'm really extremely thankful that we have writers this good at what they do in the fandom...
-I hate when names are misspelled. Correctly spelled names in fanfics are like learning what the plus sign does in math!!
-There's only one thing you need to know about Mary Sues: Stay away from writing them at all costs. They're dangerous, breed extremely quickly with the help of authors, and are unstoppable and will run rampant when set free. Have fun with "unleashing your imagination" all you want... Just try and keep those Mary Sues inside you at bay, 'kay? Do that, and I'll do the same.
Well, that's about all you need to know about me, at least for now. Go ahead, check out a couple of my stories! Reviews would be awesome. :) Just please keep in mind that some of my earlier stories aren't exactly what you'd call the best. Actually, I don't think they'll reach any level of perfection even years into the future. After all, all writing's a constant work-in-progress, but that's what makes it awesome. =]
Stay gold, everyone, stay gold. :)
