In this story the Bennets have better connections. A compromise early in the Earl of Matlock's life led to a large age gap between Col. Fitzwilliam and his elder brother, the Viscount. The Viscount is of an age with Mr. Bennet. The friendship between the two led to a higher ranked godfather for Elizabeth. It is light hearted with little angst.

Shunned by Mrs. Bennet and largely ignored by Mr. Bennet, they face additional challenges when a young gentleman of fortune leases Netherfield Park.
