Greetings! I'm Alley Cat Sunflower, but you can just call me Alley if you want. Or not. I don't care.
Now to get the self-promotion out of the way: my Tumblr is "alley-cat-sunflower", but it's kind of a mess. My Twitter is "@AlleyCatAuthor", but I never use it. My FictionPress is "Alley Cat Sunflower". Oh, and if you guys like Let's Plays, please check out my friends' channel at JustKidding LetsPlay! (I make guest appearances in Assassin's Creed Unity: Episodes 9, 10, and 11, so there's some incentive, I guess.)
I've been writing fanfiction, or at least coming up with ideas for it, for as long as I can remember. My first OTP, devised at age six, was Lucentio/Bianca, from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Yes, I was a weird child, but at least I wasn't flaky and stuck with it. Now I'm a weird adult, and typically proud of it… when I'm not being awkward, that is.
I am a bag of contradictions: a social introvert, alternately overconfident and insecure. The one constant is that my comfort zone is the truth; I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. Because of this, it's very easy to read me, for better or for worse; I come across as brusque when unhappy, but I also stand behind every compliment I offer. However, I sometimes verge on the gullible because I expect everyone to be as up-front and honest as I am, and… well, that doesn't usually happen in a world like this.
I also happen to be one of the truest Aquarii you'll ever meet, despite my uncomfortable proximity to Pisces. My Enneagram type is 7, with a phobic 6 wing; according to the Meyers-Briggs typing system, I'm an INTP. With regard to gender and orientation, I'm a cisgendered female, possibly demisexual—though for all intents and purposes I'm ace—and heteroromantic; despite the fact that I'm fairly inexperienced in the world of relationships, I tend to write primarily pairing-oriented stories.
I suppose part of that is because interpersonal dynamics of all kinds fascinate me—how people behave around one another, why that is, and what kind of bearing feelings have on actions. I am especially interested in the romantic spectrum of emotion, particularly when there are complications, and enjoy exploring the relationship between love and lust. In general, I like considering how exactly personalities are developed and change over time, with and without influence from other people.
On a somewhat related note, I can't say I'm either optimistic or pessimistic, because it usually depends on the attitude of the people around me: if more people are pessimistic, I tend towards the optimistic, and vice versa. I can say with confidence, however, that few things make me more negative than an overwhelmingly positive attitude. If we could all choose to be happy, we'd all be happy, okay? Stop bugging me about that blindingly bright side.
I adhere primarily to the canon in my work* and do my level best to stay in character, or at least provide some sort of explanation for why their behavior deviates from that of their official self. With regard to my less far-fetched fanon and headcanons, the phrase "canon until proven otherwise" roughly sums up my opinions.
Rain is my favorite kind of weather; it automatically magnifies whatever emotion I'm feeling, which is usually a positive one, and I additionally find myself in a much more creative mood. In fact, several of the things I post here were at least partially written on a rainy day due to the creativity boost. Unfortunately, the drought in my area has extended over the past few years, so I've had to make up for it by just listening to rain sounds as I write…
College is infinitely better than high school, but ironically, I still despise English classes. Maybe it's just because I have had exactly one great English teacher, and that was in seventh grade. (The others have ranged between decent, mediocre, and optimistic. I'm looking at you, Mad Monk.)
Okay, I'll stop talking about myself now. I got a little carried away there.
CREED OF A NEW STUDENT
1. The power of the imagination always triumphs.
ALTERNATE UNIVERSES: WORKS IN PROGRESS
AU#1, Tales of the Abyss (Tales of the Chasm): A world in which the protagonists' and antagonists' positions are reversed: follows Luke's journey to discover the truth with a band of friends and acquaintances collected along the way (Van, Sync, Arietta, Saphir, Gisele, and Badaq). But of course there is opposition; led by young commandant Tear Grants, the Six God-Generals aren't about to let the Score stay true. Main Characters: Asch, Van. Possible Pairings: Sync/Arietta; Van/Legretta; Asch/Natalia/Guy; Guy/Tear. Status: On Hold. Priority: Very Low. Series Probability: Unknown.
AU#2, Final Fantasy VII (Fight or Flight: Final Fantasy VII): A world in which Aerith never escaped Shinra's custody, Nanaki was captured several years earlier, and Sephiroth was conditioned to believe himself an Ancient from an earlier point in history… and also didn't go on the Nibelheim mission. Several other changes differentiate this one from the main story, such as the general timeline happening somewhat out of order and beginning about five years before it should. Main Characters: Aerith, Sephiroth. Possible Pairings: Sephiroth/Aerith/Zack; Cloud/Tifa. Status: In Progress. Priority: Very High. Series Probability: High.
AU#3, Legend of Zelda: A world in which all the timelines happen at once. It might sound chaotic, but… well, that's because it is. But there are a lot of parallels I could play with, so… yeah. Main Characters: Link, Zelda, Ganondorf. Possible Pairings: Link/Zelda. Status: On Hold. Priority: Very Low. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#4, Tales of Xillia (Tales of Lilium): A world in which, by a strange turn of events involving a young woman called Mink, Jude ends up on the run from Rashugal a few years earlier and finds himself in Auj Oule. After a long series of events, in which his determination to do what is right lands him on the streets, he is picked up by none other than the King himself… and a year or so later, in Fennmont, Leia Rolando meets a strange woman trying to get into the research center. Main Characters: Jude, Gaius. Possible Pairings: Agria/Jude/Elize; Gaius/Presa/Wingul. Status: On Hold. Priority: Low. Series Probability: High.
AU#5, Tales of Symphonia (Angelborn): A world in which Raine bears Kratos's child after he leaves with Derris-Kharlan. How does a single half-elven mother fare in a new and different world… especially when the prejudices against her race are as strong as ever? Main Characters: Raine, OC, Genis. Possible Pairings: Kratos/Raine/Regal; Genis/Presea; Lloyd/Colette; Zelos/Sheena. Status: On Hold. Priority: Low. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#6, Pokémon (The Legendary Chronicles): Okay, so bear with me here, but what if the Pokéverse was in a pseudo-medieval state of existence? Because that would totally work if I could manage to pull it off correctly. At the very least, all the perils of comparatively primitive life would explain the lack of fathers. Main Characters: Many. Possible Pairings: Many. Status: On Hold. Priority: Medium. Series Probability: High.
AU#7, Legend of Zelda: Two words: dance competition. (Two more words: blame Ryuchu.) Main Characters: Link, Sheik, Ganondorf, Zelda. Possible Pairings: Link/Zelda. Status: On Hold. Priority: Low. Series Probability: Low.
AU#8, Pokémon/Final Fantasy VII: A world in which Zinnia came from Gaia as the daughter of Vincent and Yuffie. Of course, she doesn't remember that; her first memory is of waking up in a meadow in the Pokéverse. But how did she get there? Will she ever get back home? More importantly, with her entire life now revolving around Pokémon, does she really want to? Main Characters: Steven, Zinnia, Vincent, Yuffie. Possible Pairings: Steven/Zinnia; Vincent/Yuffie. Status: On Hold. Priority: Very Low. Series Probability: Unknown.
AU#9, Tales of the Abyss (Tales of the Rift): What if the real Princess Natalia wasn't stillborn? With Badaq Oakland as captain of the guard, and Maggie, Sylvia, and Meryl as maids in the castle, life is peaceful… until Van kidnaps Luke. However, the God-General Cantabile escorts the boy home and tells everyone what really happened, outing his schemes to the world. But they can't just send the replica back; how will life change with a second Luke in the family? Main Characters: Natalia, Asch, Luke, Guy. Possible Pairings: Asch/Natalia/Guy/Tear/Luke. Status: Developing. Priority: Medium. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#10, Tales of… (Tales of the Convergence): A crossover between Phantasia, Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Graces, Xillia, and Zestiria, smashed together to create an entirely new world encompassing as many plots and dynamics as will fit. Main Characters: Many. Possible Pairings: Many. Status: Developing. Priority: High. Series Probability: Definite. Will probably be posted on Archive of Our Own due to containing more than two fandoms.
AU#11, Tales of Xillia (A Tale of Two Millas): I know this one has already been explored before to at least some degree, but if fractured!Milla and prime!Milla could coexist in the same dimension, I'm sure there would have been several differences from the canon. My reasoning and the methods behind this shift from canon are different from the story that has been published about it, however. Main Characters: Milla, Milla M., Ludger, Elle. Possible Pairings: Ludger/Milla; Jude/Milla M.; Gaius/Milla; Alvin/Leia. Status: On Hold. Priority: Medium. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#12, Tales of Xillia (Tales of Exodus): A world in which Milla completed her mission at the age of six and Maxwell's power abandoned her, but the drama is by no means over. She may have eliminated the Exodus base and most of its members, but three agents remain… and they want Elympios back. And did Milla really accidentally kill her sister all those years ago? Main Characters: Milla, Ivar, Gaius, Muzét. Possible Pairings: Gaius/Milla; Wingul/Karla; Alvin/Presa; Ivar/Leia; Jude/Elize; Ludger/Driselle. Status: Developing. Priority: Medium. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#14, Drawn to Life/Scribblenauts (Lucid): What determines what is real versus what is imaginary? Some dreams are more vivid than others, after all, and whether or not it's all in your head is subjective when what's supposed to be in your head is standing right in front of you. A much more epic version of my very first fanfiction idea (which is no longer on this site), with a different and hopefully more coherent focus. Main Characters: Heather, Maxwell, Mike, Lily. Possible Pairings: Maxwell/Heather; Mike/Lily. Status: Developing. Priority: Medium. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#15, Final Fantasy IX: What if Kuja asks Garnet's hand in marriage in exchange for his services to the Alexandrian throne? As his betrothed, she's more like his pet canary, longing to fly free… but when her opportunity arrives with Tantalus on her sixteenth birthday, her fiancée thwarts her escape. However, Zidane isn't one to give up on his mission so easily; will he be able to spirit the princess away before her wedding? And can Garnet change Kuja through the power of "redeeming love" if she doesn't love him? Main Characters: Garnet, Kuja, Zidane. Possible Pairings: Kuja/Garnet/Zidane. Status: Developing. Priority: High. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#16, Final Fantasy VII (Final Fantasy VII: The President's Daughter): Yes, it's another "what if Aerith stayed in Shinra" story. But this time, President Shinra has adopted the newborn girl as his daughter in the hopes of manipulating her from childhood into giving him the information he wants. With no knowledge of her true heritage and only a lingering sense that her family is not to be trusted, what can one girl do to save her beloved Planet? Main Characters: Aerith. Possible Pairings: Unknown. Status: On Hold. Priority: Low. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#17, Lost in Blue: Okay, so this technically belongs in the #1 spot since I came up with it so long ago, but what if everyone from 1, 2, and 3 was abandoned together on the same island instead of different ones? With nine people, will they be able to find a way off the island any faster? Even if they don't, they'd at least qualify to build a tiny tribe all their own… Main Characters: Amy, Jack, Keith, Skye. Possible Pairings: Sam/Claire/Eric; Keith/Skye; Jack/Amy; James/Kumiko. Status: On Hold. Priority: Low. Series Probability: Medium.
AU#18, Tales of Zestiria (Tales of Zestiria: Epilogue): Essentially a continuation of the bad ending, in which I sense a story yet untold. With the connection between Heldalf and Maotelus severed too soon, what fate will befall the world? Is the outlook truly as hopeless as it looks, or can our Shepherd yet right his mistakes? And can Dezel keep his secrets forever? Main Characters: Sorey, Rose, Alisha, Dezel. Possible Pairings: Dezel/Rose; Sorey/Alisha. Status: Developing. Priority: High. Series Probability: Medium.
