Hello, Readers, Delilah here!
Getting to know me: (because by knowing more about me, you perhaps gain insight into my work)
What can I say? I enjoy writing because it gives me the opportunity to flesh out my ideas and set my thoughts free from the crowded chaos that can be my mind.
I'm the oldest of five. I draw a lot of inspiration from family life and the interactions between my brothers and sisters and myriad cousins. Sometimes, I think real life is even less realistic than fiction. At least that's how I tried to explain my family to my fiance when he became a part of it.
I live in New York City. I suppose this can be a blessing and a curse, because I get to experience all the ups and downs of city life, from the excitement of interacting with a full variety pack of people from all walks of life to the occasional frustration of growing up in a tiny apartment, surrounded by bricks, concrete and smog (those were the days...)
I'm a teacher. My students write every day, per my instructions, because through reading and writing, they can break away from what life expects of them and go anywhere or be anything. I firmly believe that I learn as much about life from 'my kids' as they learn from me.
I love words. I think all writers do, but I *really* do. I speak five languages fluently, and still search obsessively for just the right word for every occasion.
Some little-known facts (for those who are interested):
Though the oldest in my family, I'm by far the smallest. I'm also the only one cursed with an inability to tan and forced to single-handedly convince the world that pale is 'in'. I'm thoroughly convinced that vintage fashion is among the most beautiful clothing ever made. I've had my heart broken exactly two times: once by a boy in high school, and once by Clark Gable. I can play exactly one song on the piano and regret that I never learned to play more. I have to have my little brother do all my sewing for me because I'm absolutely hopeless at it. I once served as a painter's model. I am a terrible procrastinator, the most stubborn person I have ever met, and I have a bad habit of getting distracted by my own thoughts.
Did I achieve my purpose of helping you understand my stories on another level? Probably not, but at least I gave you a lot of semi-worthless information to think about in the meantime.
