"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one."
- George R. R. Martin, A Dance With Dragons.
This quote defines my feelings about reading and writing. I write because I want to escape into another life, if only temporarily. Most of my writing includes snippets of my own experiences. People say - "Write what you know." I don't believe that. Yes, I take ideas from my own life, but I think the fun is in portraying emotions and experiences that I've never felt myself.
The reason I post my work on this site is in the hopes that somebody might tell me how I can improve my writing. I don't claim to be a professional; I wouldn't even go so far as to call myself a writer. But I do want to improve, and I want suggestions. I'm still young, and FanFiction is my way of trying to grow as a writer. I'm inspired by Cassandra Clare, who, I believe, started out writing Harry Potter fanfiction. I've read her early work as well as her Mortal Instruments series. And her early work, in my opinion, isn't pretty. So I figure if such an amazing author could start off as a a simple fanfiction writer, maybe I have a chance too.
Well, that's me!
