Alright. I figure I've posted a story, I ought to post something about myself.
Oi. This was in desperate need of a revamp.
Things I care about:
The Rroma. 'Gypsy' is a racial and ethical slur against the Rroma. Unfortunately, few Americans know this. I'm trying to spread the word in hopes of helping to cut down on the use of that particular slur.
"Specific to the Rroma, part of the racism against them is the way in which their culture is taken, fictionalized to serve different purposes: for example, used as an example of the "Noble Savage" (something which First Nation/Native American/American Indian tribes suffer from as well), or used as an example of how some people are equivalent to animals (something which African Americans in most European-based Western cultures also suffer from). In a lot of ways, the racism the Rroma face holds more in common with those of the tribes of the American continents, as both are often discounted as fictional or no longer existing, both are used as symbols and objects without regard for their existence, and when both are brought up the usual racist tropes used to try to discount any racism against them include, "but they're so neat/cool/amazing/noble/magical" and "objecting to that is so silly; it's not like we're insulting them or anything.""
"There was a time that the N~ word wasn't offensive. It was then used in a manner attempting to degrade the person who it was being used against. The G~ word has already received that status, most notably when someone calls someone a "dirty G~" or "thieving G~", or even says that they were "gypped"."
Deaf culture. People think that the Deaf are disabled because they can't hear. Because their means of communication is different. In the words of a very good friend, "Saying that the Deaf are disabled because they speak a different language is like saying the Japanese are disabled because they speak Japanese." Please, think before you assume that the Deaf are disabled. They are very, very able, and can do everything a hearing person can.
They can speak. They are no mutes, their voice boxes still work just fine. But more than that, their hands express their language in the most beautifully intricate and engaging ways.
LGBT community. There's no reason that people with different sexual and gender identities should be discriminated against. The same bible that says homosexuality is wrong preaches that every man is equal before god, and that we are not to judge others. So please, stop judging. You aren't just hurting them, you're hurting yourself.
Stories I'm Working On, Have Written, or Plan to Write: [All writing ceased because of stressful college situations. Those situations have come and gone, but getting back into the hang of writing is taking some time. For any who were looking forward to my stories, I apologize for such a long hiatus.]
The Pilot and the Soldier- Finished. There will be companion pieces, not to worry. They're currently in-the-makings, although they're going a little slow.
I'm in the process of editing a Shenko songfic. An AU for Horizon. I need to get myself a beta reader... @.@
I have some ideas tumbling around in my head for Thane/FemShep and Garrus/FemShep (I love the aliens more than Alenko. His close-mindedness on Horizon made me angry xP (Hence the AU))
Also some minor brain-storms about Fable and Fable II. These may or may not develop into stories.
