I doubt anyone here is reading this (mainly because I strongly doubt that anyone is here), but this is the best way that I have to get the word out. I have not abandoned FanFiction, and I've especially not abandoned Facing Fears. However, at the moment it is on pause. My beloved laptop, Jessica (yes, I named my laptop), is currently broken. I don't know how long it'll be until she is fixed, though the absolute soonest is this weekend (March 13-15). I actually anticipate it will be sometime during my spring break, which begins about a week after the aforementioned dates. I know I am very slow at updating as of late, but I just don't have any control over this matter. I am beyond grateful for your patience.
Four years have gone by since I first made this account. It's a little crazy to think that I'm just here to express myself and yet most people have something very positive to say and offer me guidance on places where I could use improvement. You have no idea how much this silly little website means to me. Thank you all for everything.
Talk To Me:
In Regards to the Fearless Series
I don't usually reply to reviewers, but there was a review left on Facing Fears the last time I updated (4/19/14) that I wanted to respond to. It's a response I've gotten often on this story (not this particular one, but pretty much every draft of Fearless) which really just goes to prove a point. The comment that was made was that the relationship between Cedric and Maddie made the reviewer uncomfortable because they're (just about) eighteen and fourteen, respectively. Frankly, the person who reviewed picked the perfect time to leave this review, considering the content of my next chapter. In regards to said review, I purposely made Maddie much younger than Cedric for this reason.
No, I didn't try to make reviewers uncomfortable. That was not the reason I was referring to. The reason is that if they were adults that were twenty-four and twenty-eight, rather than ten years under those numbers, there would be zero commotion whatsoever. In fact, adults often have significant age differences with their spouses, and nothing is said on the matter. Take, for example, Tonks and Lupin from Harry Potter. When they were married, Tonks was about 24; Lupin was about 37. That's thirteen years. Teenagers, however... What a tragedy that they're in love. "But Tonks and Lupin are consenting adults." And are you trying to tell me that teenagers don't have the ability to make decisions? And if you will remember from Fearless, it is an innocent relationship ("Are you sleeping with her?" "It's not like that."), so there really is zero reason for discomfort. Now if Cedric was abusive or the relationship was a bit more adult in nature, or if Maddie really was a little girl... That, I can see the issue with.
This is also why Cedric was so uncomfortable at first with his feelings towards Maddie, because he knew people would have an issue with it. Because I knew people would have an issue with it, when in reality, with as innocent as it is, there's really nothing wrong with it. One last thing: love is uncontrollable. You have no say over who you fall in love with. You just fall. It sickens me that there can be relationships that are abusive or just clearly not right for a person involved and people gush over how sweet the couple is, etc. (and don't lie, it happens all the time in real life), but in a relationship like this, where the people involved clearly care for one another but have a bit of a difference in something (be it age, race, religion, etc.), people focus solely on that aspect and not how loving or caring the two parties are. You can give me any number of reasons why it's different between teenagers and adults, but I seriously want you to think long and hard about what that reason is and see if it really matters.
And to the person who left the review, I honestly do respect your opinion. I do understand that it is extremely difficult to sway an opinion, too; it's just that, to me, love knows no ages, limits, boundaries, distances, religions, races, etc. And frankly, that's the bigger reason why I wrote this story. In Fearless I said it was because I disliked Cho Chang as a love interest for Cedric. While that's true, this is a more pressing issue for me. What is extremely beautiful to me is that love is completely blind. You have no control over who you fall in love with. It just happens.
