Author has written 5 stories for Twilight.
I'm in my early 40's and was introduced to the Twilight novels by my darling daughter. Her best friend is four years older than her and passed along the first of the books to read. This was after the release of the first movie. I had never heard of Twilight, even though I own most of the Anne Rice Vampire and witch series and have always had an interest in vampires be it Buffy, Angel, Lestat, Vampire Diaries, or whatever form. I decided that I better read the books first to ensure that I was comfortable with the content because of my daughter's young age. I read each book in under a day once they were in my possession since I was on maternity leave and my new son slept most of the days away. The lovely neighbour girl had lent her copies of the books out, so I had to wait sometimes a couple of weeks between finishing one and beginning the next.
My daughter was hopelessly obsessed with Mr. Pattinson (who my husband continues to call Patterson, because it drives her nuts). She's now moved on to other British boys (One Direction).
Quick summary of my life: EXTREMELY amateur writer; professional legal administrator; mother of 3 kids with more energy than should be legal; hockey coach hubby's unofficial assistant; executive assistant and glorified gopher for husband's HVAC/R business; glutton for punishment (see previous list for proof thereof); Supreme Master of time-wasting via reading (when I have free time, which is pretty much when I SHOULD be sleeping).
I've been a FFn member for a while, reading many stories over the years and I have been constantly impressed by the different stories and characterizations. I wrote a LOT as a teenager, but had tapered off dramatically since becoming a wife and mother. Recently, I realized how much I missed my creative outlet. Plot bunnies soon began to over-run me. I quickly had a number of stories started and they are still in various forms of completeness. I took a chance and entered my first contest. I added my first O/S entry for the Superheroes vs. Villans contest as my first posting and then began posting my first multi-chapter story, At the Rinks. I have since added other one shots, but have decided that I will not post any further multi-chapter stories until they have been completely written. My lift is too unpredictable to have any kind of posting schedule otherwise.
I have several bad writing habits that I am trying to fix (comma usage and tense issues). I am aware that I need much refinement, but I'm trying. I have been very lucky to have had the assistance of two lovely ladies with my first two postings. Thanks to ACullenWannabe and AGoodWITCH for taking the time to give me your advice and opinions. You'll never understand how much it has meant to me.
I now use the services of Project Team Beta since ACullenWannabe now is an actual published author who is also employed full time and what little free time she has should rightly be spent on other things.
I am a proud Canadian and will most often use Canadian spelling. If this really bothers you, please stop now. It's impossible for me to stop at this point.
Recent events have made me examine my thoughts on writing fan fiction. Personally, I think there are two reasons for why I write fanfiction:
1. I have an idea for an original story, and I insert the Twilight (or for that matter any existing literary/movie, etc. character) names and perhaps some characterizations in order to get readers to give my story a chance. Let's face it, if I (or most of us, honestly) stories posted as original fiction just don't get the readership. In this instance, if I decide (HA!) to publish the story, I don't think it is fair for the fandom to crucify me (the author).
2. I have an idea for a story that is inspired directly by the characters from the Twilight books. In this instance, it is my opinion that this story should now and forever remain in the realm of fanfiction.
What are your thoughts on this matter?
*DISCLAIMER FOR ALL TWILIGHT INSPIRED STORIES: I do not own Twilight or any of the characters from the Twlight Saga franchise. Stephenie Meyer is the owner of Twilight.
