The room was in the school's labyrinthine basement, past the "Do Not Enter" signs, the warnings of "TURN BACK" and "NO TRESPASSING".
Maka was so tired of NO TRESPASSING.
There was a large mattress-like pillow in the middle of the room. It was plush and satin and a deep shade of lavender. Candles that burned incense dwelled in each corner. They illuminated the room in shades of sultry gold and cast curious shadows across the walls as she entered her sanctuary. She couldn't help but notice the symmetry. Well, the room was something of a gift from Kid.
"For meditation," he had said, showing Maka and Soul inside. "No distractions or interruptions... Only sweet, sweet symmetry." His smile was whimsical and genuine. She smiled and shared a knowing glance with Soul.
"You can practice resonating with the Fullmetal," Kid continued, oblivious. "Anytime you like."
"That's really sweet of you, Kid," Maka said, smiling. "Thanks!"
She sat on the mattress, legs criss-cross with Fullmetal in her lap. There was nothing better for her to do anymore, since Fullmetal couldn't leave the school's walls and she was no longer aloud to fight pre-kishin. It was back to meditating with the old weapon, like when her leg was broken.
Soul was also lying on the mattress, legs sprawled off of it and head near the center, next to Maka. One arm was tucked under his head, the other held the handle of the Death Scythe. His eyes were closed and his face was peaceful, even though Maka knew he didn't particularly enjoy their three-way meditation sessions. She was fairly certain he had fallen asleep about an hour ago. She sighed and looked down at the old weapon in her hands.
"Where are you?" she asked him. He gave no reply, no sign that he was anything other than an ordinary scythe with no soul or sentience. She expected that, though. Didn't expect anything else, really. She turned to Soul and gave him a gentle nudge. He mumbled something and yawned then turned onto his side, releasing his light hold on Fullmetal and pulling his legs up onto the mattress.
Yep, sound asleep.
