About Elly...Let's say some stuff happened and we're no longer together. So no one ask me about her, please. That said... I don't read or watch about yaoi couples making love/having sex. I draw the line on that.) Hey everybody! I been watching a VERY well described youtube video of someone's thoughts on Gravity magic and as a passionate KH fan, I felt the need to go over my own list of my favorite magic from KH 1 and why myself. So please, if you're reading this, feel free to check it out and think about it yourselves! 1: Stop/Stopra/Stopga: This spell has always been a great tide turner and a lifesaver for me personally. Time is one of the most absolute laws of nature itself. It's always there, ever marching forward, and yet if one masters how to manipulate time, you'll find yourself a force that many would struggle with. Young Xehanort is proof of this. As much as I despise Xehanort, I will give him his due credit. He is truly a skilled and powerful keyblade master who learned some truly deadly magic. Much like Aqua, but way more knowledgeable than she is only because of having lived a far longer life than she has. Also, can I talk about how I love their attention to detail with Stop/Stopra/Stopga? I mean not only do they stay perfectly frozen where they, even in midair if you catch them with your spell at that time like when falling or the middle of a leaping attack. But when you attack them, nothing happens at first. To an outsider people would assume your spell made them impossible to hurt, but once the spell wears off? Oh that is where the fun begins. They take hit after hit they SHOULD have taken. One after the other in the SAME EXACT ORDER YOU HIT THEM IN! Like say I toss a chair into the air and cast Stop. While frozen, I slash at it vertically, Diagonally from lower right to upper left, and finish with a horizontal slash to the right. Once the spell wares off, the chair will first lower slightly as it's split clean in half, then fly up a bit from the force of the diagonal slash, and then to the right as it's cut once more with a horizontal slash through it's broken form to the right. It's pieces falling to the floor a little to my right. THAT is what I love about it, it's NOT just a simple temporary Time Stopping Spell, but also a DELAYED REACTION Time Spell for everything you or your allies do to whatever you cast the spell on. This spell will always be my favorite in KH and I can never stress enough how useful this spell is not only to protect yourself, but those around you MOST IMPORTANTLY. Got a hostage situation? Cast Stopga and decapitate them all without endangering the hostage if there isn't TOO many of them pointing guns at the guns or too affect at the same time. A piece of debris is about to crush someone you love and you can't reach them in time? Cast Stopga to freeze that falling chunk of building or a boulder in it's tracks and use the time to reach your loved one(s), taking them to safety before the spell runs out or just obliterate the boulder before your spell wears off. Need to stop an assassin without killing them? Be it for interrogation, to convince them their target is not guilty, to try talking them down because you're a nice guy/gal like that, or even because you don't know enough about the situation to say IF the assassin is justified or not, and want to know "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!", ect... STOP MAGIC has got your back! Just freeze them in place, give a few hard hits to their arms and legs, then just take a defensive position to ensure no one hurts one another as you wait for the spell to wear off. Once it's take effect and the assassin is stopped. You can start negotiations, interrogations, pleading for hostilities to stop, trying to talk things out, OR just trying to understand WHAT THE HELL is going on in general. Best part of all? You can offer healing to the wounded party during these talks to show you AREN'T on anyone's side if you feel this assassin might be justified or at least not an evil soul who kills for no good reason. Hell, if reasonable, sparing their life could make them an ally after you heal them. BUT this comes with a risk too as you can't trust the wrong person or they will only try HARDER to kill you before you use that spell on them again. So word to ALL my fellow keyblade wielders in your hearts out there. Be careful who you show mercy too and how much you reveal. Xehanort was NOT wrong to say "Those who know nothing, understand nothing." Ignorance is the number one killer in all of existence second only to powerlessness. BUT, sometimes ignorance can be your best friend IF your enemies don't know anything about YOU to exploit as a weakness. You can't trust everyone to know everything about you, some will use that information to hurt you, kill you, or possibly do worse things than death to you. So just like time, information is also a powerful thing you must always be vigilant to not give away carelessly. While at the same time, you must seek out knowledge for whatever you seek. It will only help your chances in the long run! 2: Aero/Aerora/Aeroga: I know, I know, wind is a normal elemental spell. BUT, in this game I feel it doesn't get enough praise so please let me explain why this spell is important to me. As a keyblade wielder, I focus normally on my Power of the Guardian and usually discard the Power of the Warrior. So DEF is a big deal for me, because sometimes I need the extra time to properly get a read on my enemies and have a decent pool of magic to work with. Despite this, my preferred style when feeling out my enemies is head to head keyblade attacks, if safe to do so, but will quickly start experimenting with magic attacks if needed. So having Aero at least is a good insurance for my survival against strong attacks. Except the Ice Titan, that fucker hurls bigger ice at me for casting Aero class spells then. But I will complement the designers of that game for coming up with a believable way to discourage players from sticking with one trick for too long. Some enemies are a bad idea to use Aero base spells because it's pointless. Anyway, with Aerora and Aeroga, I can do more than just give myself some breathing room in facing powerful foes, but due to my nature as a swordsman who wants to fight up close and personal. This can help me deal additional damage to my enemies AND reduce damage I take! It's the best of both worlds! 3: Gravity/Gravira/Graviga: Finally the spell you mentioned, like you said it is an under loved spell that is LOADED with potential in helping a keyblade wielder defeat a cluster of enemies in the right situation. You just got to be smart with it and while I'm not ALWAYS doing things the smart way. I do have plenty of smart moments where Gravity came into play. Gravity plus time is an insane combo, but one worth exploiting now that I'm older and smarter. I never tried it because it never crossed my mind that could work better than Stop and attacking the enemy while in a temporarily "Time Frozen" state where all my attacks have a delay reaction with attacks like Ars Arcanum. Not that it's bad mind you, but this would be cheaper in magic cost. The ability to use Gravity to force down Treasure Chests from Maleficent's domain in Hollow Bastion was truly a nice touch, but the ability to crush your foes under a force of gravity is truly impressive and useful in combat. Imagine casting that in IRL, only instead of being cartoonishly flat, you'd crush them either entirely or to the point they can't stand or move around easily as the weight adds momentum to your attacks. Like say you down a downward vertical swing on an active gravity field before it disappears. Your attack could gain momentum and force from the increased gravity to hurt them more, but picking up could be a risk too by this logic, I will admit. Just a thought for you all to think on. 4: Cure/Cura/Curaga: Who couldn't LOVE the ability to not only heal yourself, but to heal those around you too? Especially in the heat of combat so quickly and effectively?! Imagine it, game physics don't show it often, but Sora is facing against superhuman level dangers a lot and often shows that he has become superhumanly stronger, faster, and more durable as well. You know he SHOULD have broken his bones more than once on the road to such level of power, but with the Cure/Cura/Curaga spell. He can quickly heal his body of all physical injuries and put his bones back in their proper place fully recovered, ready to continue fighting for his friends. You can potentially save the lives of innocents you found hurt from bleeding out or having a broken leg that prevents them from fleeing to safety. You can save a loved one or loved ones by using the higher tier cure magic to heal a group of them all at once from their injuries with a minor cost of ONE MP block/bar. Honestly, the trade off is worth it, always will be even if going by KH 2 mechanics to use the whole bar and need time to charge it up. But you get my point. 5: Fire/Fira/Firaga: I know what you're thinking, WHY FIRE FOR NUMBER FIVE?! Allow me to explain. Fire has always been a true classic in RPG games and a pivotal discovery of mankind that has helped us rise to the top species in this world. It helps us cook food, it keeps us warm in the cold around us, it gives us light in the darkness, and makes wild animals keep their distance in FEAR of the fire. It's truly an awesome and great power that can be even beautiful, BUT one that MUST BE WIELDED WITH RESPECT AND CARE. If you play with fire, you WILL get burned. This is the better case scenario compared to say, someone you love or care for getting burned for your mistakes in being careless with your power. Now for the spell itself? I honestly love how it can slightly home in on targets you "lock on" to mentally, even making a curve in midflight to hit the target if the angling is good and you got enough space for this tactic. Plus the higher tier Firaga can catch a group with it's explosion of flames if close enough. 6: Blizzard/Blizzara/Blizzaga: I'll be the first to admit it, I HATE the cold with a passion. I will always choose fire over ice any day of the week! BUT, I will not deny it's tactical advantages. You can literally freeze your targets in place with this spell by say shooting an assassin's legs to freeze them to the ground, cheaper than using stop magic, yes, but less effective and more risky for you. As they STILL have their arms to attack with unless you hit them center body mass with your spell, but that comes at the risk of freezing their head too. So talking would be...difficult that way, to say the least, but still had to say it. However, it can also freeze for multiple uses. Break down a chunk of frozen water as an temporary ice pack for a headache, use Blizzaga to certain dancing water clones by freezing them solid and making them shatter in one hit...IF THEY KEPT THAT FEATURE OF ICE MAGIC IN KH 2! But alas, nothing we can do about that...even if it would have been nice to stop Demyx by using ice magic to shut down his water magic or use powerful fire magic to make a smokescreen out of steam to get sneak attacks in... You can even freeze the floor, not only to make it slippery, but even make it like a frosted area that tells you where an invisible enemy is by seeing their footprints and hearing the crunching of snow underfoot as your foe advances! You can even freeze certain parts of water for a temporary foundation to stand on instead of falling into the water! Granted, a slippery one possibly if smooth, but you get my point. I mean we did freeze water bubbles to be foundations we jump off of in Hollow Bastion without slipping off. Anyway, ice magic has it's uses and should be respected. 7: Thunder/Thundera/Thundaga: Finally, the last of the magics from KH 1! God I didn't intend to do this whole thing at first, but I feel proud of myself for getting my thoughts and feelings on here. I wish I could do a youtube video to describe this better, but I lack funds and equipment for that, and worse, lack of a private room to make said videos, knowledge, and experience. I have a lot to learn, but really look forward to one day doing. ANYWAY, this spell is known for striking fast and hard, great for bringing power back to the city in KH 1. Something many in Georgia with me can state is a blessing because blackouts suck. Sadly, this spell sees little in tactical use besides it's power and speed in strikes when casted compared to all the other spells. A symbol of divine fury itself that COULD scare idiots into surrendering, if you don't mind the misunderstandings of people believing a god or goddess is intervening for you, that you're their champion, or worse...they'll think you're a god or goddess yourself. It's hard to describe, but it's always been a thing for humanity to think of higher powers when dropping lightning, or anything from the sky really, on someone. FAKE VS. The strongest steel is forged by the fires of hell. It is pounded and struck repeatedly before it’s plunged back into the molten fire. The fire gives it power and flexibility, and the blows give it strength. Those two things make the metal pliable and able to withstand every battle it’s called upon to fight. (Savitar)” ― Sherrilyn Kenyon, Devil May Cry. Nice guys STILL finish last To every guy that said, "Sex can wait"... Not many girls appreciate nice guys anymore. Defiance and it's connections to Magic, Humanity, and Combat. Magic is a defiance to the laws of physics and reality itself. Take Sora's for another example. I seen him shoot fireballs underwater that don't go out and do damage to enemies. While using Thunder magic without shocking himself and everything around him as he is underwater in the process. All because his magic defies reality and physics just enough to only harm his enemies. Yet, with humanity, everyday we unconsciously are always defying something, but humanity never truly admits it for one reason. Defiance is a grey area, not good or evil. Despite all the times defiance has helped countries prosper like say America when fighting the British for their independence and freedom. People hate grey areas, while people like myself and certain others accept things are NOT just black and white. Unlike the mass majority want to pretend... As the Catholics want to pretend and honestly it makes me sick they're trying to simplify the universe in good or evil, with no in between. Rather if it's in arguments or in combat we are always defying each other as a race. One person trying to push their way of thinking or their resolve against the other. People argue because they don't see eye to eye, tend to try to force others to see things their way, but the other party of said argument will try to do the same thing because they do not agree with the others. That is a basic argument, but there are always times when it's not about changing minds, but letting people around you know what your feelings/opinion is and you WON'T let others change WHO YOU ARE. That is also defiance through argument, not accepting their ways of thinking if you deem it wrong and trying to stand your ground on what you believe in, sometimes even trying to make others see things your way. In combat, we defy the reality of being victims. Of seeing someone we want to protect getting hurt and/or worse fates. We defy the reality of tragedy by fighting for a better future where those we love are safe. Though this would be for those who have SOME morals, honor, or even just a caring heart for others. Long story short, defiance is something we all have in common rather if we realize it or not. It's just a matter of how defiant we are and for what reason do we defy reality of the situation before us. |
