Hi, I'm Dragons in the Orchard, a reader, critic, and perhaps soon-ish a writer.
You'll notice that I don't have a beta profile, as I haven't met ff's writing requirements to become a beta. However, I have excellent spelling and grammar skills and would be happy to help anyone check over their work. Being British I can also spot Americanisms unsuitable for the Harry Potter universe. And feel free to get in contact just to chat, too! Currently I beta for reallyhatebananas - it's a newish thing, but I love the dark fairy tale tone a lot of her work has. She's especially good for some really sensitively-written character pieces, and for neglected characters (Astoria, Fudge, Bill Weasley).
I'm trying to gather the truly fantasic pieces of Harry Potter fanfiction together in my favourites - if you have a recommendation, send it on over! The fandom is so popular that there's a lot of wading to find a gem, so hopefully this collection will solve that problem, at least for anyone who visits my profile. All genres, pairings and ratings are open for consideration, but the majority of stories are complete (just to check they don't go downhill at the end). A couple will be probably-incomplete-forever, but only if they're so life-changingly fab that it's worth reading just half a story. The only requirements are good spelling and grammar (otherwise it can distract from the story), original plots and convincing characterisation; not all of the stories on the list are the next Anna Karenina, they just have to be great at what they're trying to do - and that can be entertain just as much as explore the deep torture of the human condition or whatever.
I enjoy many pairings, but have a particular soft spot for these :
Draco/Hermione (a prime wading section, sadly)
Lily Luna/Lorcan or Lysander
Thanks for dropping by,
Dragons in the Orchard.
