Author has written 8 stories for Thunderbirds.
I grew up watching the original Thunderbirds series on TV. We’d race home from school and sit waiting impatiently for it to come on. Originally we watched it in black and white, and when we got colour TV I was amazed to find that TB2 was actually green!
I have played online trivia for years and have written quite a few quizzes for that site. (Yes, one is about Thunderbirds and one about Gerry Anderson). One day I played a quiz that had a Thunderbirds question and it got me thinking. Strange but true. I stumbled onto the fanfiction site and was immediately hooked.
All my life I had imagined IR and the Tracy boys as real, and to find that other people felt the same was liberating. I felt I wasn’t crazy after all.
I have just started writing fanfics, and love coming up with the idea for a story, putting pen to paper (fingers to keyboard just doesn’t sound the same) and bringing the story to life. Then comes the scary part. Posting and waiting to see if anyone else likes the baby I have put so much time and effort (and love) into.
Obviously I write Thunderbirds fanfics since I’ve been obsessed for years, but I write based on the TV version. After all, the original is always the best! Thank you Gerry Anderson! I watched the movie, have the DVD, and despite it having an awesome cast, it deviated too far from the original series for me to really connect to it. But that’s just me.
Having said all that, here is how I picture and portray the boys in my fics:
While Alan can act professionally when on duty, he still has some maturing to do. On the series he was often pouting and sulking, so that’s where I got the image. Please don’t shoot me if you’re an Alan fan.
The boys are all alpha males, tough but gentlemanly.
They do swear from time to time and sometimes enjoy a beer after a rescue.
I cannot, nor have I ever, imagined them crying. They are tough Tracy boys.
Since they exist in a technologically advanced age, and the unusual combination of first names would be too easy to google and come up with the surname ‘Tracy’ (Jeff is famous and the boys are all over-achievers) I have always envisioned that the boys would use code-names on rescues. My thanks to Tikatu for graciously allowing me to borrow the idea of code-names from her story “Masquerade”.
