The name's Lucy. I'm a set of certainties plotted on a Cartesian plane of measured uncertainties. Seventeen, going on seven or twenty-seven, depending on mood. English, with an exceptionally plummy accent for someone with a Northern mother. Obsessional alt-kid with too much eyeliner on and a room bedecked in music posters and clippings. IB student with multiple musical instruments and a telescope. Physics enthusiast with a penchant for quantum mechanics, quasars, and quarks, which explains why I draw the Schrodinger equation on my folders. Lit-freak, which explains the Hamlet quotes next door to said equation. History nerd, which explains the Russia postcards all over the walls. Single as fuck and not too bothered about it.
My thing - well, my biggest one, amongst reading, plotting world domination and playing the harmonica at awkward moments - is writing. Hence why I'm here. I'm permanently ensconced in a myriad of writing projects. My writing may seem weird or disjointed or overly descriptive, but that's how I operate: I search for the reality that I can convey and pin down with my words so that I may understand it. I write on anything and everything, including myself.
Music's a massive inspiration for my writing. A great deal of what you'll read on this site by me is powered by the music I love. Watch out for My Chemical Romance, Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol, Joy Division, The Cure, The Killers, The Smiths, Florence and the Machine, Pulp, Muse, Blink-182, You Me At Six, Blur, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand, 30 Seconds To Mars, Bon Iver, Mumford and Sons, The Jam, The Clash, Paramore, Kasabian, One Republic, The Human League, U2, The Beatles, Editors, Death Cab For Cutie, Crystal Castles, Fall Out Boy, Hurts, Hot Chip, Jeff Buckley, Kaiser Chiefs, Mindless Self Indulgence, New Order, The xx, Jack White's numerous acts and solo projects, David Bowie, Kraftwerk, The Black Keys...
This is the location for the expression of my many fandomical outpourings. I'm a member of a vast number of fandoms: Who, Potter, Sherlock, Downton, Twilight, MCR, Thor, Merlin, Robin Hood, Hitchhiker's Guide, Inheritance, Shakespeare, Tinker Tailor, North and South, Terry Pratchett, Narnia, Marvel. I also adore a large number of books and films without real fandoms: Birdsong, The Picture of Dorian Gray (plus the 2009 film adaptation), Persepolis, Bonjour Tristesse, Starter For Ten (book AND film), Diana Wynne Jones
I'm the girl who's up at four in the morning writing because she's just got to get it out. I debate the finer points of modern history with myself when I'm bored. I recite Shakespeare when I'm drunk, and proselytize about socialism and M-Theory to anyone who'll listen. And you will often find me trying to work out if Keats or TS Eliot is my favourite poet when I should really be asleep. Basically, I'm on a permanent nerdy mad one, and the things I write are a mixture of that and my huge fandom feels.
Hamlet is my spirit animal. I like black and purple and cuddles and swooping fringes and pale skin and individuals and harmless arguments and feeling safe and explosions. I used to want to be a physicist but now I'm applying for English and History. I like the modernism and imagism of Joyce and Eliot and Woolf and yet I also dream of the sweeping romanticism of Keats and Jane Eyre and North and South and I Capture The Castle. I'm one for huge emotions and yet I spend half the time in a state of dead apathy. I like slamming bass and lyrics that make me cry and sweeping classical music. I dream and dream and dream and yet I'm a nihilist. Let's face it, I've never made sense.
Tony/anyone because he's fucking awesome
Eleven/Amy (but only before Rory came aboard the TARDIS, because, let's face it, I love The Nose.)
August 2012: Currently, my only live WIP is Set The Fire To The Third Bar. I'll be posting other one shots and shorter stories, I think, but STFTTTB has been part of my life since before my sixteenth birthday, and I think it's time I started to post chapters more regularly. As such, I'm going to be devoting more time to it.However, this doesn't mean weekly updates: my next few months is going to be hella crazy - I'm applying to university, beginning rehearsals for my school musical, and just generally having to deal with the madness that is one's final year at school. Shit, son. I'm old now.
Basically, you can consider First Impressions abandoned, and Quantum Attraction on hiatus for a long while. I will do my level best to finish STFTTTB before I turn eighteen: partially for my own sake, and partially due to my wonderful, lovely, perfect reviewers. I love you guys.
LATER IN AUGUST 2012: ANACHRONISTIC ANNOUNCEMENT.
I now have a new WIP, Sail. This is almost certainly a bad move, timewise, considering how much I've got on.
Basically, it comes down to this: I will always put my schoolwork first. If I disappear for long breaks in between chapters, STFTTTB readers will know, it means I'm busy.
I am always trying to make time to write, though. Hopefully you'll stay on board, my lovely, beautiful, supportive readers. Much love.
