Author has written 21 stories for Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VII, Evangelion, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Naruto, and Avernum.
Standard Schlock: Male, Australian. (That's all you're getting...)
My writing preferences currently angle towards canon-specific, with forays into humour (not to say 'crack'); I have a penchant (not to say OCD) for originality, and particularly like the idea of writing something which no-one else has tried. (Recently that's led to an interest in both reading and writing crack-pairings, ideally believable ones.) At the moment (as of mid-2015), I've mostly veered off the various Final Fantasy games I started out in and done a fair amount of stuff in BtVS. But should I ever get round to it, there are plenty more possible vectors to pursue. I have a tendency to set myself writing exercises, in an effort to acquaint myself with as many aspects of writing as possible; as such, I'm slowly working my way through the various genres, and have begun to experiment with different writing styles.
At present, I have what will be one ongoing series (The Divergence Series - and yes, the overall title isn't exactly original - based in BtVS, where Dark Willow (as per S8-MC) repeatedly attempts to short-circuit the circumstances that caused her to travel back in time as a villain, repeatedly spawning/hitting ARs as a direct result), one...stalled ongoing series (The Seeker Files, which will incorporate snapshots of past events in Spira with the evolving nature of the post-X-2 world), along with a chaptered fic (The Griever, set 30 years post-FFVIII; it's likely to be deleted eventually for revamping). I have in the meantime been assaulted with something like two dozen plot-bunnies for oneshots, mostly humourous, mostly for various Final Fantasy fandoms (though a fair few have cropped up for other fandoms). So, I'll be busy for a while. No doubt, another idea for a longer story will surface eventually; it usually does.
17/10/11 Update: The bulk of my ffic-writing is currently being sunk into two new works, both of them long (for me) and both of them firsts for me as well. Neither will be posted until they at least look like they'll be completed.
The Vitruvian Paradox: My first crossover - FFVIII's Squall dropped into post-Meteor FFVII after something goes wrong on his return from Cosmos' realm (Dissidia). Maximum care taken to keep it within canon for all three paradigms. Yes, not exactly original at first glance, but checking the title might give you a hint as to the twist... About 60K words in, perhaps 1/3rd done.
A Difference of Awakenings (working title, will change): My first AU, or more accurately AR, piece - as the WEAPONs arise at the Northern Crater, Vincent is awoken in his basement by the spirit of Ifalna. This one's been put on the backburner a little, but I'll hopefully get around to it. About 12K words at the moment.
Meanwhile, I have also been beta'ing on a semi-regular basis for some months now, and this looks like continuing. Hence further delaying several projects. But oh well.)
1/2/12 Update: ...And another one.
The Eighteenth: My first foray out of the Final Fantasy franchise. This one is for Evangelion (animeverse), and basically follows the Shinji's-stuck-in-a-time-loop plotline. Hopefully the way I've done it is reasonably original. Knock wood?
2/3/13 Update: ...But, all that's going to take a while now, since my laptop decided without warning to screw up, and I ended up losing most of my written work.
As fior my reading preferences... well, I mostly started out with Final Fantasy - X/X-2, VIII, VII (especially recently), XII and XIII, all of which I've had direct experience in playing. Given constraints on my time, I mostly tend to read shorter fics (which can be read in a few hours at least), though I'm getting round to reading some of the longer ones now. (I also read some DMC, GOW, Evangelion, a fair-sized helping of BtVS, along with an eclectic mass of other stuff when it takes my fancy; recently I've started getting into the site's vast reservoirs of Harry Potter and Naruto ffic for reasons I've yet to comprehend.) Providing it's well-written, I can stomach most stuff, though I detest gratuitous yaoi and rendering characters like Rikku, Selphie, Yuffie etc. (or, say, Xander or Luna for that matter) into airheaded sugar-addicts with a fiery passion. But by far my biggest peeve is badly written fic. I mean, there are some excuses I'll accept (mainly ESL problems - for which a beta can help), but how hard can it be to at least proofread a fic once before posting it?
If I could be considered to have an OTP, it would probably be Yuffentine (FFVII). Mainly for the contrast. In other fandoms, I tend to go for the prior-friendship pairings, mainly for the RL-realism.
Constructive criticism is good. Unconstructive criticism... suffice to say, I'm not usually this polite. Story suggestions are good, though keep in mind what I've written above. Claims of rip-offery are almost automatically incorrect, given that I just don't have the time to trawl the entire list of stories to see if mine would clash with anything; if you do spot something that's a little too close for comfort, then please tell me so I can check it myself. Language complaints... well, I'm Australian. So words like 'd*mn', 'bl*dy', 'h*ll', etc are just plain words. Live with it.
Nowadays I spend a fair bit of time browsing through Twisting the Hellmouth's archives, though I've only just made an account for it (HTML-formatting for submissions - yech!). A great place to find good BtVS-crossover fic - visit tthfanfic.org if you're interested. I'd particularly recommend some of Greywizard and MMcGregor's work over there, which can't be found on FFnet (though they don't post all their work over there, either - XanderZone and I Need A Parrot have some more of their stuff).
Occasionally I also look through AO3 and Mediaminer. I'll probably go looking through Portkey.org and maybe DLP one of these days...
Help Me Find This Fic!
Sometimes I just...lose fics. You know how it goes - can't be bothered logging in to track them at the time, the find you just can't remember what the f*ck they were called. So, if you happen to remember, please drop me a PM?
Harry Potter - (unofficial) crossover with the Cthulhu Mythos. In diary form, dictated by a Diagon Alley resident (maybe Borgin/Burke of Knockturn Alley, maybe OC). Oneshot, details a bystander who watches as Voldemort delves into the Elder Gods side of things and drags the world into the abyss piece by piece - Harry challenges eventually, and fails. The diary's writer goes mad as he delves into same, in an attempt to protect himself. No pairings, complete. Bad end.
Naruto - clone-fic, wherein Kakashi has Naruto do the team's paperwork and he turns out (thanks to his clones) to be preternaturally good at it, actually (re)discovering obscure bureaucratic shortcuts. Naruto is detailed (or rather, his clones are detailed) to explore Konoha's Repository of ancient paperwork. 10-plus chapters, incomplete, set prior to Chuunin exam.
Finally, I have started a C2 for Final Fantasy VII, a collection of pre-Compilation fics which is intended to cut out the endless trawling through crap that so many readers have to go through in the back pages of the archive. Currently I'm thirty pages in (K-M, English). This expands intermittently.
