Author has written 17 stories for Yu-Gi-Oh, and Gravity Falls.
Warning this is a long profile, and it will contain some swearing. I also don't the copy rights to anything I reference in this profile, including the 007 in my username.
April 19, 2015
I just posted a oneshot in the Gravity Falls and Yu-Gi-Oh crossover one shot called "Let's Make a Deal".
Also, I'm still working on the next few chapters of Welcome to my Bizarre Life. I am also planning to work on the next chapter of Dark and Light, too.
In other news, I got started on my first Gravity Falls multichapter, which is a Reverse Falls AU story.
However, I am also working on a lot of one shots, including two theme collections. One is my version of the 100 word theme challenge (it's going to be 50 instead just to make it easier on myself) where I write a one shot about one of the words on a list. These one shots will feature either Atem/Yami x Mana, Yugi x Tea, Joey x Mai, Mahad x Isis/Ishizu and Kaiba/ Priest Seto x Kisara. However, this will be in a random order as well.
The other collection is my version of the Yu-Gi-Oh pairing meme. For each chapter, I will write a one shot about one of my favourite pairings that fall into one of the categories along with an explanation about why I like or dislike them. This is similar to a one shot collection by AngelRosemary, but this will be my own take on it with my own stories and answers to the questions.

How I became a Yugioh fan: The story of my downward spiral into Yugioh fandom is a strange tale. I started watching the show when I was about 8 - 10 years old, but I stopped watching it when I was about middle school age. When I was in grade 10, one of my friends showed me an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, and I loved it! And after watching that for awhile, out of curiously and nostalgia, I started watching the episodes again. I started reading the manga, too. After reading the manga and watching the episodes again, it got me interested in the show once again. Now, a few years later, I am still interested in this show.
What fandoms I write for: I will mainly write stories about Yugioh. But I might write a story for another fandom if a good idea comes to me.
--Coming Soon (stories I might write in the future)--
Deadly Game: Mana and Atem were friends as they can remember and they go to the same high school together. When a spirit named Amunet comes back to life, she wants revenge on the people who hurt her so much. Amunet has the powers of the shadows on her side. They are in the fight of their lives. Atem tries to fight back with the help of his friends. Co written with Raving in the Rain
Shippings: Atem x Mana, Yugi x Tea
The Little MerThief: Malika is a rebelous mermaid. When she and Bakura discover a book which contains a spell which can turn her human, she decides to use the spell to become a human.
More Info: This story is going to take place in modern times. Unlike the Disney movie, Bakura in this isn't going to be a human prince, but an every day guy. Also, Malika in this dates a different guy at first (and no he isn't royal either). Also, Malika doesn't change human for a guy like in the fairy tale, but because she wants to be a free spirit and to prove humans are not all monsters along with other reasons. In fact, this is going to be my take on the story, having little to do with the Disney movie or any other version of the story at all.
Shippings: Fem Marik x Thief King along with a side Atem x Mana, Yugi x Tea
(Haven't decided on a title yet and working on a way better summery): When Tea receives a Ushabti for Christmas, her new gift comes to life to fight off another evil. During the fight, Tea along with Yugi get transported to ancient Egypt and she's in for the adventure of a life time. (loosely based on the nutcracker ballet)
Pairing: Yugi x Tea along with side Atem x Mana.
Heroes of Domino Universe (working on a better summery and title): This will a series of stories (which are around 5 to 10 chapters long each or even sometimes one shots) revolving around an AU where all the Yugioh characters are superheroes. The origin story for each hero will be its own story. The some stories will take some inspiration from pre existing heroes (Iron Man, Ant Man, Hawk Eye, etc) and might have elements from other backstories, but I will try to make them my own thing and fit the yugioh characters. Also some of these characters will take inspiration from multiple superheroes (Yugi and Yami origin will be inspired by the Wonder Twins, the new Thor movies and Robin and some others). Some will just flat out make up (like with Hanasaki). I will give credit if I feel if the backstory is super close to an existing one. This will all combination into a much larger story which will be like the Avengers movie, but will be more of its own thing.
Pairings: Atem x Mana, Kaiba x Kisara, Yugi x Tea.
Dark and Light 2 (working on a better summery): After Atem and Yugi defeated the powers of darkness, things start going back to normal. Atem takes his place as the prince of Kemet meanwhile Yugi starts get ready for college. However, after Bakura learns the truth about what happened to his family, Zorc starts to slowly eat away at his mind and control him in order to destroy Kemet. Will the twins save the world and their friend?
Pairings: Yugi x Tea and Atem x Mana
(working on title and working on a better summery): Atem and Yugi, who are princes of Egypt, go off to war with another nation along with the rest of the Egyptian army. During the war, Atem and Yugi get caught in a sand storm, Yugi gets injured while an enemy solider captures an injured Atem. Yugi along with Mahad and Mana are stranded in the strange land, trying to find Atem. Meanwhile Atem is held as prisoner of war, and he tries to escape.
Pairings: Yugi (acient version) x Teana, Atem x Mana, Priest Seto x Kisara, and Mahad x Isis
More info: Don't worry; I won't make Atem act like an idiot in distress. He's going to be his normal brave self, fighting for his freedom.
Lost in the Echo (working on a better summary): After Atem is in the afterlife for a long time, he gets dragged out of the afterlife and comes back to life. His friends, past and future, must fight off the new threat.
Pairings: Yami x Mana and slight Mahad x Ishzu, Yugi x Tea
(Working on another title and summery): When two twin brothers go inside a virtual reality RPG game, they find out that no is able to log out. They soon figure out that The Big Five has trapped everyone inside the game - the only way out is to defeat the game. If they die in the game, they die in real life. (inspired by the first season of Sword Art Online, but is mostly my own thing)
Pairings: Atem x Mana, Yugi x Tea, Joey x Mai and Seto x Kisara
How to be a Heart Breaker(working on a better summery): When Bakura was a young child, everything she held dear was snatched away from her and she thought the royal family was to blame. Years later, Bakura is a thief living on the streets, fighting to survive. In order to avenge her people, she disguises herself as a princess, with a spell she finds in an old spell book, which makes her look like a different person in order to get close to the pharaoh before crushing him. What if she learns Atem and his family are not as heartless as she thought...?
Pairings: female Thief King x Atem
(Working on title still): This story is going to be a series of one shots based on the ideas behind the tracks on the Simple Plan album "Get Your Heart On!'. These one shots are not song fics, just using the ideas and meanings behind the songs to inspire them.
Pairings: Tea x Yugi, Mana x Atem, Joey x Mai.
(Working on a title still): This story is going to be a series of one shots based on the ideas behind the tracks on the Shinedown album "Amaryllis". These one shots are not song fics, just using the ideas and meanings behind the songs to inspire them.
Pairings: Tea x Yugi, Kisara x Kaiba, Mana x Atem, Joey x Mai.
Vase, peach, polar, plea and blue - oh my: This story is going be a one shot challenge where I write a one shot about those pairings based on a list of random words. My goal is around 50 one shots. These can take place in the cannon universe or in an AU (some of which are based on my other stories) or even have some of the "memory world" characters have reincarnates in modern times (like Mahad, Mana, Kisara, etc).
Pairings: Atem/Yami x Mana, Yugi x Tea, Joey x Mai, Mahad x Isis/Ishizu and Kaiba/ Priest Seto x Kisara (even though this is somewhat obvious because of the title lol)
Yu-Gi-Oh Spin Offs
Welcome to my even more Bizzare Life: Jaden enters a school called Duel Academy. He meets new friends and has a lot of adventures which he'll remember for the rest of his life. Squeal to Welcome to my Bizarre Life
Shippings: Jaden x Alexis, Amane x Zane, and other pairings
(Working on a better title and summery): A hundred years after the original mane six took up the Elements of Harmony, there are new threats to Equestria, so it's up to a whole new generation of mares to stop them.
Pairings: mentions of Fluttershy x Discord, Rarity x Spike, Vinyl Scratch x Octavia and more (not sure about the pairings with the next gen yet or some of the other pairings)
(Working on better summary) Those Weird Moments: These are random one shots of some "missing moments" and "episodes" from the show.
Pairings: Depends on the one shot.
(Still working on title and better summery): Pacifica and Gideon are set to live with their uncle over the summer in Gravity Falls, Oregon. They thought it would be just like any other summer, until they find a journal and uncover mysteries about the town. Reverse Gravity Falls AU
Pairings: one sided Mabel x Gideon, and Dipper x Pacifica
Yugioh DM/ GX/ 5Ds
(Working on a better title and summery): Paradox travels back in time, intending to eliminate the source for his world’s destruction. Yugi, Yami, Jaden and Yusei team up to take down the madman. Based on the movie Bonds Beyond Time. Connected to Welcome to my Bizarre Life and Co-written with Youngbountygirl
Pairings: Yami x Mana, Yugi x Tea, Kaiba x Kisara with minor and mentions of Jaden x Alexis, Zane x Amane, Yusei x Akiza, Mina x Trudge, Jack x Carly
Yu-Gi-Oh DM/ Gravity Falls
(Working on a better title and summery): When Dipper and Mabel are in the basement with the portal machine, Bill pushes them through the portal, ending up in another dimension during acient Egypt times. The twins and their new friends must save this world along with their own.
Pairings: Atem x Mana, Kisara x Priest Seto, Mahad x Isis; mentions of Dipper x Pacifica

--Some of my Favourite Yu-Gi-Oh Characters--
Yami Bakura or The Thief King: I am one of the people who thinks that Yami Bakura is the Thief King and not Zork. Yes, he is evil and did many cruel things, but I still think he's a cool character anyways.
I think that despite everything, I still think he is a good guy deep down and has a conscience. I think he does care about Ryou deep down and doesn't show it at all. He was just misguided by Zork. He joined up with Zork because he was heartbroken about the fact that his family was killed and wanted revenge so desperately he wanted to do anything to obtain it. I don't think it was his best decision he made, since his mind became twisted as a result, even to the point where he believed he was Zork in the end (that's what I think the reason why he said, "I am Zork" in the manga and anime; you disagree if you want and I won't hate you for it, but that's my opinion ). I think the truly evil stuff he did was Zork's doing, not his. He's determine, brave, smart, has a lot of self-confidence and be quite witty sometimes.
Marik: I think he has been though a lot in the show and in the manga. He had spent his childhood literally living under a rock, had a large symbol craved into his back at a very young age, was physically and emotional abused by his dad, had an alter ego form, killed his dad, had a dark spirit control him, seeked vengeance against the pharaoh before he saw the error of his ways and destroyed his dark side forever. Plus, he came out a better and strong person in the end. He has a lot of will power, determination and is very brave, which are some qualities I admire him for.
Yami/ Atem: Yami's character is way different in the 4Kids dub, so I'm talking about his character in the manga/Japanese version. I think he's an okay guy, despite the fact he did some truly horrible things before in the beginning of the show and especially in the manga. He set a man on fire, put god knows how many people in comas and did many other morally questionable things. I think he did those things because he wanted to protect his friends and family, but there's a much less... violent way to do it. Despite these things, he does overcome his past and grows to become a better person.
I find him an interesting character because he always tries to protect the people he cares about. He has a lot of will power, is very brave and always tries to overcome hardships in his life.
I especially love the Japanese/ manga versions of his personality. This is because even though he was a powerful pharaoh and made a great sacrifice, he was still a teenager and acted like one. He is more mature than most teens our age for sure, but he teases Yugi on a few occasions, can act immature once in a blue moon, makes mistakes and hangs out with his friends; I think it's a bit more realistic to be this way, because he was in his teens when he died.
He is an Egyptian Pharaoh, and he's pretty cool.
Yugi: He is super special awesome! He has been through a lot in the show including being bullied along with many other things. He seems very brave and always trying to protect his friends, which is something I admired about him. He's also very optimistic, kind, and smart.
Ryou: He's a pretty cool character. I feel bad for Ryou too. He lives alone, since his father is hardly around and his mother and sister passed away (it's mentioned in the manga). He's a very sweet, shy, tough, smart and definitely cares about his friends.
Seto Kaiba: One of the reasons I like him is the fact he was an orphan and grew up to be a very intelligent business man, overcoming many hardships in life. Yes, he can seem like a complete, for a lack of a better word, jackass sometimes, but he's the type of person who wants to prove himself and achieve a goal. I think Seto can be a nice person and does care about people, but he doesn't show it a lot due to his past. Seto is a good older brother.
Joey: Joey, despite his past, seems to be a cool to be around. He also is kind of the underdog of the series. At first he wasn't very good at dueling, but improves his dueling ability later on. He's funny, reckless, determined, and loyal. It's really hard for me not to like the guy.
Mai: Mai seems like a strong person and put up with a ton of crap in her life, yet she over came it and she lets no one push her around. She is independent and can take care of herself, she is very determined, can be very cunning, which is something I admire about her.
Mana: While she did not appear until Memory World, I still think she's a cool character. Even though she’s still only an apprentice magician, she’s determined to fight with the others to protect her friends and loved ones. She is the open, cheerful and playful kind of person, yet se can be very hard-work and determined to become a better spellcaster. Mana likes to have fun, but can be serious when the situation demands it.
These are the various pairings that I enjoy the most in my fandoms and I why I enjoy them so much. Just because something isn't listed here doesn't mean I won't read or write a story with another pairing in it (unless it goes against my morals) and just because something is listed doesn't mean I will write about it or read every single story ever written with that pairing in it. These are just the ones I like the most. Also, which name is in front has no bearing whatsoever on who is "on top".
Favourite Yugioh DM Shippings:
Yami/ Atem x Mana (I think they are a super cute couple. For some reason, I always enjoyed stories where friends become lovers for a very long time, even before I came on this site, so that aspect alone makes this pairing extremely appealing to me.
They are close friends and are very close to one another. They also trust each other. Mana being there for him and Yami being able to rely on her and visa versa is a huge thing. They are also protective, and supportive of each other as well.
Also, Mana's personality does balance him out extremely well and she's a great anchor for Atem. She's bright, cheerful and mischievous, yet she can be determined and hard working as well. Despite Atem being thrust into the position of pharaoh in his teens, Mana doesn't care about that and still treats him the same way she always has with her trust, kindness and cheer. They both are to be informal and can just be themselves around each other. She can also make him pop out of his shell and have fun once in awhile. That counts for a lot.
She is always happy to see him and vis versa. Their personalities are so different and yet they just seem to fit together so well. I can see sparks flying between them and their relationship turning romance extremly easily.)
Yugi x Tea / Anzu (Hey! After all things that Yugi has been through, he deserves to get his girl! They balance each other out extremly well and there were sparks between them in the anime and manga on a few occassions. I think this pairing is pretty much cannon anyways. Also the creator of the manga said that Yugi and Tea would get married in the far future when Tea finished dance school which I find pretty cool.)
Priest Seto/ Kaiba x Kisara (This defiantly happened in the anime... at least in my opinion. Priest Seto cares about Kisara, he does almost anything to protect her, he treats her differently than everyone else, and even remembered her from several years before. Also I think it's sort of like an ancient Egyptian version of Romeo and Juliet, because she sacrifices herself to save Seto's life... except they both don't die at the end.
I can also see this working out well in modern times if Kisara was reincarnated, considering Kaiba still felt something when he saw her face-to-face in the Memory World. And Kaiba would mellow out with someone Kisara around. Kisara could probably handle him even at his very worse and be able to hear him out.)
Joey x Mai (They're a cute couple too. There is a least something there in anime. They care for each other, but it's kind of comedic at the same time. )
Mahad x Isis/ Ishizu (I enjoy the dynamic between these two and they care about one another.)
Thief King/ Yami Bakura x Marik (I love this in Yugioh abridged. They're rooming together and show feelings for each other, yet they deny it, so it can lead into some great interaction between the two of them. I can see this working in the canon because it's obvious that these two care about each other and they are both asses.)
Yami/ Atem x Yami Bakura/ Thief King (While I can't see this working in the anime or in the manga at all, I can see this working given different circumstances in an AU.)
Yami x Marik (I only like this because they have similar backstories. They both did horrible things in the past, changed their ways and became better people because of it. I can see Yami not only forgiving Marik, but becoming friends with him and maybe even more.)
Mokuba x Rebecca (This is pretty cool couple. I can see this working out somewhere down the line, since they are around the same age and they are both smart kids. I think Mokuba could handle Rebecca's temper very well. Hey, if he's able to handle Kaiba, I think he can handle her. lol)
Leon x Rebecca (I enjoy this couple. I can see this working down the line, too. They are around the same age and are very smart kids.)
Ryou x Serenity ( I think they are both very kind and gentle people who can be very strong. I can see these two being extremely sweet together.)
Mokuba x Amane (One of my friends got me into this pairing, it's not that bad and it's pretty cute.)
Pegasus x Cecelia ( This is such a bittersweet love story in the canon. You can also easily tell that Pegasus truly loved her, yet she was pulled away from him so soon. I genuinely feel sorry for what happened to him.)
Duke x Vivian (I can see this happening after the series is over once they mature a bit more. I think they could complement each other very well.)
Seto x Ishizu (I can see this maybe happening because they are both serious, hardworking and smart people. They also both been through hell and back along with caring for their siblings. I can see Seto admiring and respecting Ishizu to some extent for having these traits, even if he won't admit it. I can see her respecting him. She has been shown to be able to hold her ground against him, even understanding where he's come from with some things due to her rough past. These two would make an interesting couple.)
Tristan x Miho (I enjoy this couple. Despite it not working out in the manga, I still find it a cute pairing if it's done right in a story.)
Thief King Bakura x Mana (While I can't see this happening in the canon, at all, I think this can possibly work in an AU or if they meet before the whole memory world thing. I think Bakura would like how she stands out in a good way. I only like it when its not sadistic and evil. )
--Favourite Shippings From Other Anime and Tv Shows--
Supereme King/ Jaden x Yubel ( I can see this working considering I can see they have an extremely powerful bond and willing to go to hell and back for the other.)
Bastion x Tania (I like this pairing since I enjoy the dynamic between these two and you can tell they obviously care about one another.)
Bastion x Alexis (I enjoyed the dynamic between them in the manga and I can see this being a cool pairing.)
Blair x Marcel (I find the interaction between them cute, and they do care for one another a lot.)
Alexis x Jaden (I enjoy the dynamic between these two and they care about one another.)
Aki x Yuesi (They are so cute together. I enjoy the dynamic they share together.)
JackxCarly (They are so sweet together and it's pretty much cannon anyways.)
Mina x Trudge ( They are sweet together. It's obvious he has feelings for her and I see it being possible for her to return those feelings back. )
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Katara x Aang (It's so obvious throughout the series that these two have feelings for each other. I saw sparks between them plenty of times during the series. I can see this working considering they both care about each other a ton. Katara has fought to save Aang on numerous occasions; Aang can't handle the thought of losing her. Their personalities just mesh perfectly. Katara's temper bounces off Aang with his calm demeanor. In addition, Aang and Katara communicate; they have a strong understanding of each other and a strong underlying friendship. Their weaknesses do not detract from their relationship and their strengths only enhance it. They almost in many ways complete each other. I also like seeing this pairing develop throughout the series.)
SokkaxSuki (They balance each other out very well. I like how this relationship develops over the course of the series.)
Ty Lee x Zuko (While I never see this working out in the cannon, I can this working if Ty Lee matures a lot more and in the right circumstances. I can see Ty Lee being the light in his life, bringing out his softer side while being able to pop him out of his shell when he needs it. I can see Zuko calming her down at a lot if she needs it as well. I can strangely see this playing out like vaseshipping as well for some reason. lol )
Mai x Zuko (Mai is endlessly loyal to him and keeps him down to earth. I did see some sparks with them throughout the series.)
Soul x Maka (Just because they are meant to be. You can obviously tell that these two have feelings for each other. Soul is willing to do anything to protect her and he's more calm around her then anyone else. It's the vaseshipping of the Soul Eater universe. lol I just wish they would kiss or something to make it official. This pairing is so obvious that I feel like jumping in the TV screen and smacking Soul on the head, saying, "Just kiss her already, you idiot! It's obvious you like her.")
Black Star x Tsubaki (They are sooo sweet to each other sometimes, and it obvious they care for each other. I can see this working when Black Star is a tad older and matures whole a lot more.)
Dipper x Pacifica (I can see them having an interesting dynamic somewhere down the line if they got a chance to know each other more. Pacifica has shown that she is changing to become a better person, especially after the Northwest Mystery Mansion episode. I can see them being anchors for each other, balancing each other's personalities well.)
Dipper x Wendy ( I can see them getting together sometime down the line. Dipper has shown to be very mature for his age. Not only that, their personalities balance each other well since Wendy can be very laid back and can give the push he needs to go out and have fun, while he can be very supportive of her. He has shown to care deeply about Wendy. While I can't see them getting together in the cannon story line, I could see sparks potentially flying between these two somewhere down the line.)
Mabel x Pacifica (Like with Pacifica and Dipper, I can see their personalities balancing each other out well)
Sheriff Blubs x Deputy Durland (For some reason, I can see these two being an interesting couple.)
Soos x Melody (I found their interaction in that episode adorable. I find the idea of them communicating online since they live so far away interesting as well.)
Marvel/ DC (I'm mostly going off of the movies and various tv series I seen over the years for this since I never read every single comic in existence, especially the older ones. )
Iron Man / Tony Stark x Pepper Pots (She is a big part of Tony's life and does share a special connection with him. You can tell she really keeps him down to Earth so Tony's ego doesn't become big as Texas and keeps the rest of his life in line too. In fact, she helps him out so much I swear she might as well be his sidekick. She does know how to handle Tony well, even at his worst. Also, as a little fun fact, this is where I got the inspiration to do the Kisara x Kaiba relationship in my stories, too.)
Cat Woman/ Selena Kyle x Batman/Bruce Wayne (They both have great chemistry together and you can obviously tell they care for each other. She just seems to make Batman more human. She is a smart girl who would not put herself in a situation which would make her a damsel in distress and get herself out of a tough spot, so Batman wouldn't have to worry about her as much.)
Superman x Wonder Woman (I enjoy the dynamic between these two a lot. They care a lot about each other.)
Richard Grayson/ Robin/ Nightwing and Starfire ( I friggin' love their relationship in the Teen Titans show. They balance each other out nicely. And I enjoy how their relationship develops over the series.)
Spider Man / Peter Parker x Gwen Stacey ( They are both very smart people who obviously care about each other and have a romantic connection to each other.)
Green Arrow/Oliver Queen x Black Canary/ Dinah Lance(These two have a very interesting dynamic. Green Arrow can sometimes be ill-tempered and raw, while Black Canary is determined and down to earth. While at first she wasn't super fond of him, over time they fell in love and their love flourished. I think they make great anchors for each other and they are always there for one another.)
Hawkgirl/ Shayera and John Stewart/ Green Lantern ( I love this pairing in this in the Justice League show. These two started out as friends and team mates, but over time they fell in love with one another. Despite set backs, they always come through for one another. Plus, the love story between them in the past in that show reminded me of the of the play Aida, so I find that cool.)
Invisible Woman/ Sue Richards x Mr Fantastic/ Reed Richards (These are both very smart people. They have been through hell and back, yet they always come through for each other. They even got married and raised a family together.)
Aquaman/ Arthur Curry and Mera (This couple has had their share of relationship troubles, but each and every time they bounce back stronger than before. They are always there for each other, too.)
Stop the Pairing Wars!

Tips on how to be a True Duelist (From another profile)
1. A true duelist always stay calm when the going gets tough. Panicking just makes you slip up and make mistakes.
2. Look closely and consider all your options. There may be a move you might have missed that can help you out!
3. Work with what you got. It's great to have a strategy but if it doesn't work you need to be able to work something else out. Be flexible!
4. Life Points aren't everything. It's ok to lose a few Life Points now and then. Just make sure you don't lose to many!
5. Always show your Monsters respect. Don't sacrifice them needlessly! For a good example for what disrespecting your cards leads you, see Episodes 60-62; Episode 158; and Episodes 174-176 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Trust me...it's not pretty at all!
6. Always have a back-up strategy. If one strategy doesn't work, have something else in store for your opponent.
7. Always play with honor. Cheaters never prosper!
8. Show respect to your opponent. When the duel is over, there is always the chance you can be friends.
9. Believe in yourself, trust your Deck, and the Heart of the Cards will guide you to victory.
10. Last but not least, always play your best, and most importantly... HAVE FUN!

How to Write Good Fanfiction...and Bad
The title. This is what people read first, so if your title is good, they'll read the summary, which is one step closer to reading your fic. If it's a serious (meaning not parody or crack), make it interesting. Don't put the pairing name as the title, because that makes it sound like it's clichés about that pairing...well, that's what it says to me. If you put it in Japanese and the main story is in English, make sure you know exactly what it says and haven't got it off a translator; they just aren't reliable. Also, put a translation in the summary, that way people get what your story is about rather than some random kanji they don't understand the meaning of.
The summary. This is a SUMMARY, not a SPOILER. Therefore, only the first chapter or so should be mentioned. I don't know what's going to happen in the end. You can, however, put "Eventual..." and put a pairing there, as it means fans of the pairing will read it. But they won't know how. Also, for the love of fandom don't put "Bad summary" or, "I'm not good at writing summaries." If you can't write a summary, then people (well, me, at least)will think you can't write a story either. The summary is like the blurb of a book; everyone has to write one. Try and keep it short and to the point. Too many stories say "Full summary inside." I then see that the summary could have words taken out and shortened to fit. Your summary shouldn't be too long anyway, or I have way too much information. You can use shortcuts too, i.e. AE, AU, YxY, etc. Either way, it needs to be intriguing and make me want to read your story. A few rhetorical questions can be a good little add in.
OCs. I love, for my sins, to put OCs into stories. And I love them, because in my head, they are a better version of me. I never write them. These OCs have a name, which is Mary-Sue. Even if you don't intend them to come across that way, that is what the reader sees. No matter how well written, few people are going to read something that says OC. Especially if they pair up with a canon character and are the main focus of the story. I should know, I've written one myself. OCs can be great characters, especially in multi-chapters where you need villains or people to die, or basically an extra part. Of course, you can have wonderful OCs who are well-developed and, over time, become loved by the audience just as much as the canon cast. This, however, is difficult to achieve and requires lots of skills. I won't tell you much about them, but they are well-developed, don't overshadow the canon cast and took a while to be brought into the story. I'm sure there are many others out there that are brilliant, and I'm sure that not all female OCs are Mary-Sues, they are just seen that way when I read the summary: "So-and-so becomes Seto's secretary/rescued by Seto/meets Seto, will she melt his ice-cold heart? SetoXOC".
Clichés. Know what you are writing about before you write about it. Do some market research, know the dos and don'ts. Tendershipping abuse fics are cliché, as are demon/angel/vampire ones. Find something that no-one/very few people have done before, or twist a cliché round. If you don't know what you're writing about, it's no wonder you don't get any hits, no-one wants to read a bunch of clichés they've seen before, even if the writing is professional.
Song-fics. You like a song, you always associate it with certain characters/situations, and you want to write about it and share it with the world. Fine. I have no problems with that. But build a story around it, put the real meaning behind the lyrics. Unless it's karaoke night at the local bar, or one character is serenading another, or there's a talent show on, make the lyrics into dialogue. Use your artistic license a bit and write the story around the lyrics. I don't want to see Ryou, who would have to be drugged to get to a bar and then get severely drunk to even consider karaoke, get on stage, sing his love for a random character, who loved the song and his voice, and then they run away and have sex. Nor do I want to see Bakura, who is even less easy to get on stage, say sorry to Ryou in a song, and then they run off and have sex. No. If someone said sorry to me in a song, part of me would think it sweet, and part of me would hate them for not telling me with words. I want to read more in a song-fic than the lyrics to a song I know...I already know the lyrics, what I want is to see your interpretation of a situation perfect for it between two of my favourite characters. Think before you write it. You don't even have to include the lyrics, just the general idea if you want to.
Parodies/Crack. I love these. Please, however, make it clear that that's what it is. When I'm in the mood for something serious and heart-breaking, I don't want it all to turn out to be a load of stupid dialogue stuff. In this, the title, needs to make me laugh as I think of all the fun this story will be. In this, make fun of clichés and everything, people came here to read a parody, so have fun. If something makes you laugh, it will probably make other people laugh.
Endings. "They woke up and it was all a dream" is the worst ending ever. It's too cliché and, let's face it, your readers have stuck by you until the end, they deserve more than, as Little Kuriboh put it, a "cheap cop-out ending". The characters deserve it too. Yes, it is the ending to Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland, but that is strange enough to be passed off as a dream, and you often wonder whether it was a dream or not. Plus it wasn't a cliché then. You don't dream about going to sleep, people. The ending has to tie everything up, unless it's part of a series, and should make the reader smile/cry, and post a review.
Hiatus. If you're putting the story on hiatus, give some explanation why. And tell readers. I don't know how many times I've read a good story with loads of potential, only to find it stops at the exciting part and hasn't been updated for seven years. Any excuse really; death, moving out of a fandom, writer's block. And state whether it's permanent or temporary. You never know, someone may love your idea and want to write it themselves, but they don't know you've given up on it.
Author's notes. Don't make them too long and keep them separate from the story. I read Author's notes so I don't miss anything, but I don't really want them to be longer than the writing itself. And, at the end, don't threaten to stop posting if you don't get reviews. You sound like a spoilt brat, and I personally don't review people who put that just to spite them. Something like "Review??" or "R&R" is more likely to get me to review than "I will only post the next chapter if I get 50 reviews. Muahahahahaha!" Surely you should want to share your precious creation to the world, regardless of whether people review or not. The best stories have the most reviews, not because they threatened, but because they are good writers. Improve your writing and ask nicely.
Reviews. When you get them, it is important to be polite. Thank them for the review, clear up any confusions and get to work on the next chapter for them. Even if one person left a review, next time they will too, and it stacks up. Always reply; they took the time to review, so you can take the time to reply. It looks good, and who knows, you may start off having massive conversations and making friends with someone. I do that all the time. There is a difference between a flame and concrit. Concrit looks like this: "I liked it and the beginning really hooked me, but could you add a little more description to it so I know where they are? Oh, and you spelt "certain" wrong. Happy Fandom, Lily." A flame looks like this: "OMG THIS ISH SHIT!!! LERN HOW 2 SPEL U BTARD!!!!" Notice the differences. The concrit is nice, polite and is trying to help you, and will clearly keep reading. These people are the best. The flamers, however, couldn't be bothered to spell properly, and have less intelligence than a five-year-old. Ignore them, and consider having anonymous reviews disabled, as most flamers are anonymous. If you really can't stop yourself from replying, then at least make the reply a little patronising and overly polite, i.e. "Dear Anonymous, I would like to thank you for the review, but I can't. Could you please explain to me why you don't like my story, why you don't appear to like me even though you've never met me or talked to me, and why you can't use spell check? Hemlock (Lily's evil alter-ego."
Have fun. Seriously. This is a hobby, not a job. You should love doing this, and if you don't or you feel pressurised, take a break. This is for YOU, not anyone else, other people just happen to read it. Writing is a way to express your feelings and personality in a way that is almost impossible elsewhere. If you take requests, make sure you write how you want to. At the end of the day, it's your story, and we're all here to have a good time, so HAVE FUN!! This is the most important part of writing.
--How to prevent Mary Sues?-- (http : // www . wikihow . com / Avoid - Making - a - Mary - Sue) Ignore the spaces to see where I got this.
A "Mary Sue" (or "Gary Stu" for males) is a character who is overly perfect. Usually found in fan-fiction, these characters are nearly invincible, multi talented to the extreme, and loved by everyone except the readers. Often, Mary Sue represents the author's idealized version of him- or herself projected into the world of the original fiction, also known as canon. The readers can easily detect this fact. Here's how to keep this annoying character from showing up in your writing.
1.Know your material. Try not to go on hearsay, or what you've seen in two or three episodes. If you can't watch the whole season or read the entire series, that's what the Internet is for. Research your fandom.
2. Avoid making your character related to a canon character. While some canon characters have vague pasts that can be manipulated, a frequent and recognized (although not compulsory) trait of a Mary Sue is to be related in some way to a canon, especially one who has a strongly established past already. Your readers may find it hard to believe that the canon character has a sister he never mentioned or a son she doesn't remember. BUT! (There's always a but) If one can do it, and make it work to the point where even the readers will like this character, then you're ok. (Which I hope to god I did with Heba in my stories.)
3. Give your new character some real flaws like impatience, obsession with looks and trouble making friends are examples of flaws within the character. They should be flaws that have real consequences for the character in his or her life and advance the story forward.
4. Make your character part of the ensemble cast, maybe even a very small part. Your original character should not constantly be the center of the universe. Let the other characters have moments away from your new character where they don't talk or think about the new character.
5. Let the canon characters share the spotlight with your character. Remember why they're there. Your readers want to read about the canon characters, that's why you're writing a fan-fiction.
6. Give different characters different reactions to your original character. Look at the original work you're drawing from. Do all of the protagonists always agree or act the same way? Of course not. Take the canon characters personalities into account and craft believable reactions to and relationships with your newcomer.
7. Make things hard for your new character. One of the most annoying things about Mary Sues is how easily everything comes to them: fighting skills, special talents, strong relationships, special powers that appear just in time to save the day, etc. If your character has to struggle and deal with real problems your readers will start to feel for her. If she does everything perfectly with no real adversity, they'll start to hate her.
8. Avoid letting your new character be the sole contributor to solving one of the major unresolved conflicts of the original fiction. Give the glory to an established character or make it a real team effort.
9. Tread carefully around romance. Mary Sues are constantly winning the love of a character the author really likes or fixing up two previously unattached characters the author thinks should be together. Romance is possible in fan-fiction, but give it time to make it more realistic.
10. Take your time. One of the biggest flaws of Mary Sue stories is that things happen far too quickly. It will probably take a while for your new character to become really close to the canon characters, or be in a position to accomplish lots of amazing things. Go slowly. You can always write a sequel.
--Important Questions to Ask as You Make a Story (I got this off of another profile)--
1.“What Is This About?”
This is, quite seriously, my most favoritest — and what I consider to be the most important — question for any author, writer, storyteller or general-class penmonkey to ask. Like I’ve said in the past, this isn’t just a recitation of plot. This is you going elbow-deep into the story’s most tenderest of orifices and seeing what lies at the heart of the animal. It’s you saying, “This is about how when people are stripped of civilization they turn into monsters, man,” or, “It’s about how the son always becomes the father,” or, “You dance with the unicorn, you get horn-fucked by the unicorn, you feel me?” It’s about identifying the theme of your work, about exposing the emotional core and the truth one finds there. You ask this question to make sure your daily word count lines up with your overall desire.
2.“Why The Fuck Am I Writing This?”
What I call: “The Give-A-Fuck Factor.” Why do you give a fuck? Do you? Why will anyone else care? Figure out what makes your story worth writing. Maybe it’s a character. Maybe it’s an idea. Maybe it’s one scene somewhere in the third act you just can’t wait to write. Find out why you’re writing this. If you’re just phoning it in, wandering aimlessly through the narrative without purpose, the audience is going to feel that. The audience can smell confusion the way that dogs can smell fear and hobos can smell a can of beans. They’re like sharks, those hobos. HOBO SHARK II: BLOOD BEANS III. I dunno. Shut up.
3.“Is This My Story Written My Way?”
When I read a story by Joe Lansdale, I say, “That’s a goddamn Joe Lansdale story.” The voice is his. The story is his. The characters are his. You could drag me to an alternate universe where Joe Lansdale was never born and still I’d know that this book in my hands is a book by him. We have to own our fiction. We have to crack our chests open with rib-spreaders and plop our viscera right onto the page. It’s gotta be us living there. Feel out the story. Feel if this is your story written your way (and if not, make it so). Write something that matters to you. If it feels like you’re not there? Backtrack, find out where you lost the story (or the story lost you) and rediscover your voice and your path.
4.“Am I Ready?”
You ask this before you start your project and before every day of writing: am I ready? Writer and El Sexorcisto Jason Arnopp said yet-another-smartypants thing the other day on the Twittertubes: “I’m seemingly destined to regularly forget that sometimes you’re not ready to write a script because you haven’t finished thinking about it.” Amen! So say we all. Sometimes you just haven’t done the brain-work. Or gotten all your plotting and scheming out of the way. It is our nature as impetuous creators to want to jump in and do a cannonball, but all that manages to do is make a mess. Sometimes, truth is, you’re just not ready.
5.“Does This Make Sense?”
Biggest problem with Hollywood big blockbuster movies these days is they don’t make a lick of goddamn sense. Seriously, I feel like I’m in one big game of Balderdash — I’m constantly asking, “Do they expect me to believe this shit? Did they dose up a four-year-old on Nyquil and let him write this plot?” You’ll find plotholes so big you could lose a Rancor Monster in there. Don’t be that way. When you’re writing, revisit the problem: does everything line up? Nobody’s just… pulling a gun out of their asshole or suddenly crossing 2,000 miles of desert in a day? Anticipate that your readers are going to be intelligent and will be able to smell mayhem and foolishness from a mile away. Have everything make sense.
6.“What’s My Plan?”
Have a plan and cast a wary eye toward it daily. It’s okay if your plan is: “I’m going to write until I’m done.” It’s fine if your plan is, “I’m going to write the dialogue now, then a few big action pieces, then I’m going to go back and fill in all the gaps.” Doesn’t matter what the plan is: it only matters that you’ve contributed a little brain-think toward it. Don’t be a pair of loose underwear caught on a tree branch.
7.“What Do These Characters Want?”
Characters have needs, wants, and fears. Simple as that. John wants a boat. Mary fears gonorrhea. Booboo the Space Whale needs to eat a supernova-ing star or he’ll die. Every character is motivated, and that motivation is the engine that pushes them from one end of the scene and out the other. Asking this while writing helps you keep the motivations of these characters in line: these motivations drive the plot.
8.“What’s The Conflict?”
Every character has a motivation, and then you come along, the Big Ol’ Grumpy Dickhead Storyteller and throw all kinds of shit in their way to stop them from realizing their hopes and force them to confront their fears. This is conflict. Hiram wants to have a dance party at the country club but OH NOES he just got kicked out of the country club because his rival, Gunther, has been spreading lies about how Hiram likes to “lay with caribou.” Now Hiram must defeat the machinations of his rival and prove his worth to the country club. What Hiram wants is prevented by conflict. So, every day, identify the conflict. Not just in the overall story but in each scene. How do the little conflicts build to larger ones?
9.“What’s The Purpose Of This Scene?”
Every scene has its purpose. Find it. Expose it. In this scene, you need to show Rodrigo’s helplessness. In that scene, you must foreshadow the showdown between Orange Julius (Secret Agent: Orangutan) and his foe, Hobo Shark. The scene after will see the protagonist lose everything and drive home the overwhelming difficulty. Blah blah blah, etc. As you’re writing, find the purpose. Let it impel the day’s writing.
10.“What Has To Happen?”
Every plot is like a machine. Some are simple — a lever, a pulley, a nut-cracker. Others are far more complex. No matter what the case, every machine would fall apart and fail to function without certain key components, and your plot is like that. These are the legs of the chair: you need them or the story will fall over and break its teeth on the linoleum. Keep your eye on these. Know when you’re approaching one. Orchestrate them. Find the way to each. Make the No Man’s Land between them compelling, too.
11.“How Does The Setting Affect My Story?”
Setting matters. Setting contributes to conflict (snowy blizzard!), to interesting characters (Brooklyn hipster!), to mood (a low rumble of thunder indicating slow-approaching doom!). A great setting puts a great deal of story toys on the table. You’d be a fool not to grab a couple, put them into play.
12.“What Do I Want The Reader To Feel?”
The storyteller is a puppetmaster. You’re here to pull strings and make people feel something — often intensely, often deeply. And so it behooves you to aim for a feeling rather than randomly hoping one occurs. In this scene you’re writing, what do you want the audience to feel? Hopelessness? Triumph? Delight? Fear? Do you want them to laugh so hard they get a nosebleed? Or cry until they fall into a grief-struck slumber?
13.“Am I Enjoying This?”
Not every day is going to be a thrill-a-minute. Some days the word count is bliss; other days it’s like brushing the teeth of a meth-cranked baboon. But you should keep an eye on your overall enjoyment levels. You should be finding some pleasure, some measure of satisfaction, with what you’re writing. If not, try to suss out the reason. If you find it a misery, there’s a chance the reader will feel that misery, too.
14.“Am I Taunted By An Endless Parade Of Distractions?”
As you write, it’s best to ask: oh, shit, am I actually writing? Because, as it turns out, being on Twitter doesn’t count. Nor does playing a video game. Or watching football. We writers are easily distracted, like raccoons, babies, and — I’m sorry, where was I? The sun just glinted on a quarter and I found myself mesmerized for — *checks watch* — about 45 minutes. Point is, if you’re easily distracted, you need to cut that shit out. If it continues, you need to find out why. Why is it you don’t want to write the thing you (theoretically) want to write?
15.“What Else Is In My Way?”
We all find our work hindered by various reasons. Family obligations, writer’s block, technical problems, depression, vibrant hallucinations, addictions to huffing printer ink, etc. Time to identify these reasons — and by reasons, I mean, “excuses” — and begin systematically eradicating them. Find what blocks you, and either remove the block or find a way around.
16.“Where Are My Pants?”
Trick question! You should know where your pants are. They should be as far away from you as possible. Good penmonkeys work pantsless. I, for instance, pull a “Garfield” and mail my pants to Abu Dhabi. Just keep your underwear on if someone unexpected (Mostly unwanted) walks in on you.
17.“Am I Writing To Spec?”
If you’re rocking the NaNoWriMo, you know your count is 50,000 words. Or maybe you’re writing a 90-page script, or a 5,000-word short story. Always keep your mind roughly orbiting your total potential word count: good writers know to write to spec and, in the day-to-day act of penmonkeying around, recognize when they’re on-target or off-base.
18.“What’s My Daily Word Count?”
Part of writing to spec is knowing what your daily word count should be. If you’re writing NaNoWriMo, it should be somewhere between 1500-2000 words per day. Hit the target. Bing bing bing bing bang, popcorn!
19.“Who Is My Audience?”
This can be as broad or as limited as you care to make it. Your audience might be, “Everybody who loves a good thriller” down to “Teen boys between the ages of 15-18 who still wet the bed.” Just as good authors write to spec, good authors also write to an audience. A speaker would tailor his speech to his audience, and so the writer must tailor his writing to an audience as well.
20.“Have I Saved Recently?”
I am an obsessive-compulsive saver. I will save at the end of every sentence if you give me a chance. Save a whole lot. Learn to ask yourself that question in order to keep it and the habit top-of-mind. Oh, and just so we’re clear: don’t rely only on auto-save. We cannot trust robots with our future. Because robots hate us mewling meat-bags and secretly work to undermine our so-called “agenda of the flesh.”
21.“Oh Shit, Do I Have This Backed Up In 72 Different Places?”
You must save often and back up your work across multiple sources. External HD? Cloud storage? E-mail yourself the draft? Print copy? ALL OF THE ABOVE, TYPED IN CAPS TO DRIVE HOME ITS SCREAMING IMPORTANCE. RAAAAR YELLING YELLING SNARRGH. Ahem. Point being, at the end of every day’s worth of word-making, back up the file in as many ways and places as you care to manage. Future You, upon suffering a cataclysmic hard drive shitsplosion, will thank Present You for being so damn smart.
22.“What Will I Write Tomorrow?”
Toward the end of this day’s word count, keep an eye on tomorrow’s story-telling endeavors. Maybe make a few in-document notes. Keep a hazy picture of what happens when you next sit down to write. You’ll be happy when tomorrow comes. Unless tomorrow doesn’t come and the robots have finally decided to wipe us from the planet like one might wipe a booger off a drinking glass. Fuckin’ robots, man. Fuckin’ robots!
23.“Does This Look Like Shit?”
Does today’s word count look like garbage? Spelling errors? Funky plotting? Hastily-scrawled poop? That’s okay. You’re allowed to do that. Just note it. Make a little checkmark in your brain, or even do a comment in the document — just know that today’s word count will necessitate you coming back, doing some clean-up.
24.“Is This A Good Day To Write?”
Trick question! Every day is a good day to write. Go and do that which you claim to be. Writers: write!
25.“Am I Asking Myself Too Many Goddamn Questions?”
Of course you are. This post posits too many questions to seriously ask yourself: the point isn’t to compulsively go through this list of questions day in and day out, but more to help take these questions and let them float in the back of your mind: if you grow too crazy about this, you’re going to be focused more on the answers than you are on your actual word count, and that’s not the point, not the point at all. These questions are — well, you know what they’re like? You know how when you drive on one of those go-cart tracks they have the haybales up or the rubber bumpers to stop you from careening off-track and to your fiery doom? These are like that. These questions are what help keep your go-cart from flinging off into infinite space. Let them shepherd your word count rather than overwhelm it. Don’t blow a gasket. Use them where they’re useful; discard them with they’re starting to fritz your circuitry.
--Opinions about Yugioh and other fanfiction things in general (I'm not saying you have to agree with me, I'm just stating my honest opinion about these things. If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine. I won't hold it against you either and will be respectful towards your own opinion.)--
The anime or the manga: To be honest, I like both of these versions. But if you twist my arm and forced me to choose, I would pick the manga since it has some slightly more adult elements in it.
I prefer the Japanese version over the English Dub. I appreciated the humour of the dub sometimes, but 4Kids did take out crucial plot details which weren't always for the best. However, I still enjoy some things about the dub, too.
My favourite arcs are the Ancient Egypt Arc and Battle City.
Uncut Version: To be completely honest, I haven't watched much of this, so I don't have much of an opinion on it yet.
Yugioh Abridged: This is part of the reason why I started watching the show again in my teen years and keeps me interested in it as an adult. This is a really funny series, and I highly recommend every anime fan out there to watch it.
Yugioh GX and Yugioh 5D's: These are pretty good shows. One aspect I enjoy about GX is how goes against clichés. Darkness has both good and evil aspects to it, while light has only evil (seriously, how many TV shows have done that?); most of the villains have a reason for what they do and sometimes the characters grow into someone they thought they would never become. The show dives very in depth with the characters, having tons of development for them over the course of the whole show. It's great seeing the amount of character development many of the characters go through. While some aspects of it make me raise an eyebrow (like why the school is on an island with an active volcano on it) or questionable plot points (I find the episode with the Dueling Monkey and few others like it to be bizarre ), it's a very enjoyable anime for me to watch. The episodes, while some of them may be very light-hearted and not as serious as the original, there many more serious episodes and story arcs with darker tones in the later on which put many of the characters to the test. My favourite arcs in GX would be the Supreme King/ Yubel arc and the Society of Light arc.
Yugioh 5ds is an okay show. Admittedly, the card games on motorcycles thing worked out better then I expected, since I thought the idea was laughable at first. I found some of the characters interesting. I don't mind 5ds, I'm just one of the only people on the planet that prefers GX more.
Yugioh Zexal: I watched the first few episodes. It's okay; but it's definitely something I can't see myself being a fangirl of as of right now. I'm not planning to watch more of it any time soon.
The Yami and Hikari theory: Some in the fandom claim that Yugi and Yami are two halves of each other. However, to me, I just don't buy this one - at all. They are not the same person or two halves of a whole person or anything else of that nature, no matter how you put it far as I'm concerned. I think just the “yamis” and the “hikaris” are two completely different individuals sharing the same body, therefore they have each their own whole soul and are completely separate beings.
For me, if this was true, that would mean Yami would have no conscience AT ALL and would be completely evil, being all the negative; while Yugi would have no evil in his heart AT ALL and would be all positive, not being able to sin at all if this is true. That just doesn't seem to the be the case to me. Yami does have a conscience and does have good in his heart. The only reason he seemed evil in the beginning was because he was sealed in a tiny piece of gold for thousands of years, which gave him an extreme case of cabin fever that affected his mental health in a bad way. Yugi does have the ability to do evil; he just chooses not sometimes to like everyone else. And Yugi is not completely 'innocent' either. He has done some right and wrong doings as well, even doing so in both the anime and manga. The same goes with Yami. To me, Yugi's just a shy teenager who learns to be more confidant as he matured. Yami is just a spirit who learns how to be more humble and kind. Everyone has a good side and a dark side, even if we don't always see it.
I think Yami is simply an ancient spirit living inside the puzzle meanwhile Yugi is a modern teenager, who got the puzzle. Yami could be Yugi's ancestor or something, but nothing more than that. I also do not think Ryou and Bakura are halves of each other too. You can disagree if you want, but that's my take on the whole thing.
Yugi being the Pharaoh's reincarnate: Simply put it, this makes no sense to me at all. If Yugi is Yami's reincarnation, then Yami won't exist. Reincarnation is placing one's soul into a body or an inanimate object. So if Yugi is Yami's reincarnation that would mean that Yugi's soul is Yami's, and then Yami's own soul will not exist in the show or manga. Personally, I just see Yami being Yugi's ancestor.
Yami Marik and Marik issue: I don't think Yami Marik is the spirit of the rod in any way shape or form. I also don't even think Yami Marik is Marik's "dark half". I believe Marik has a mental illness called Dissociative Identity Disorder or more commonly known as Split Personality Disorder. This is when two or more distinct personalities exist in the same person's mind. DID is caused, in the majority of cases, by childhood trauma. The theory is that, in order to deal with this trauma, which is major and prolonged, a child will create an alter ego in his or her mind to deal with the abuse. The original personality is usually unaware of the other personality existence. A personality switch is usually triggered in the mind. In many cases, the original personality does not recall what happens when the alters are in control.
Marik shows a ton of warning signs for this illness in the anime and manga. For example, he had a very harsh childhood since it was implied that he was whipped a ton and his father did god knows what else to him. Marik created Yami Marik to deal with the pain of his father craving into his back. In addition to that, Yami Marik and Marik had no interaction between each other at all during the anime except that one duel where Yami Bakura and Yami Marik duel each other which leads me to this conclusion.
Granted , I could be wrong about this too. You can disagree if you want, but that's my take on the whole thing.
Adding Extra Millennium Items to Stories: There are seven Millennium Items, not eight or nine! They were made by sacrificing the Kul Elna villagers! Do you really want something made out dead human bodies? I don't think so. Now, tying them cleverly to an existing Millennium Item, making it not "technically" a Millennium Item or working them into known cannon past and changing it is fine. I'm fine with this, but you have to a really good reason why.
Debate over Yami and Atem being one or two different people: Yami and Atem are the same person. Yami's character may be slightly different from how it was in the ancient past, but that doesn't make him literally a different person then he was thousands of years ago. Yami is the still the same person he was back then, he just doesn't remember much of his past along with some other things. In the Japanese version and in the manga, he was never called Yami either but addressed as Yami no Yugi, Other Me, Spirit, Pharaoh, and Mou hitori no boku. This is only because they didn't know his real name until the end of the series/manga which is obviously Atem.
Dark Magician Girl and Mana connection: There some people on the site who see them as the same person while others see them as different people. Personally, I see the Dark Magician Girl as Mana's ka monster and a huge part of Mana's soul. As for later on in the modern time line, I do have a head cannon that Mana controls the monster during Yami's duels from the afterlife to help Yami find his memories and fight by his side.
So while I don't see them as fused like Mahad and the Dark Magician, even in modern times, I do see those two as being very closely tied together.
3000 vs. 5000 years: I watched the English version of the anime, which says that Yami was trapped in the Millennium Puzzle for 5000 years meanwhile the manga and the Japanese version pin it at 3000. Personally, I like the 3000 year old date more is more realistic. While I don't see it being a dead on date, I still think the anime took place around that time. Personally, I like the 3000 year date more due to historical accuracy; but if a story went with the other date, I won't complain that much either. I will use the 3000 year date in my own stories, though.
Jaden and Supreme King connection: There are those on this site who will blindly and rabidly insist Jaden and Haou are two separate people. However, I believe that the Supreme King is Jaden's past life and ka. They're still basically bound to one another and are almost exactly the same. The differences between them are because they grew up in different times and places. So the Supreme King is more harsh then Jaden because he was breed for royalty while Jaden had a fairly normal life.
OC x Cannon: Personally, I don’t mind a oc pairing as long as she’s realistic as possible, and if the actual author isn't trying to hook herself up with her favourite character unless it's a parody story. I just hate oc’s if she acts completely prefect all the time; has no flaws; doesn't seem like a real person at all; and if she looks like a friggin' model or something. I only read stories with an oc/ cannon pairing in it if it's humorous or well written.
OC's: OCs can be great characters, especially in multi-chapters where you need villains, or basically an extra part. Of course, you can have wonderful OCs who are well-developed and, over time, become loved by the audience just as much as the canon cast. But it takes time a lot of practise, even I'm trying to work on that myself.
Character death: I think it's harsh to do this in a fan fic, especially to a main character unless you have a very good reason for it. I don't have a problem with people who read and write fan fics like this. But, I'm not going to do this in my own unless it happened in the actual anime, movie or manga.
Genderbending: While there are those on the site who don't like these kinds of fics, personally, I don't mind them and think they can make for a good story when they are well written. I think genderbending could be a really good opportunity for some interesting and thought-provoking AUs. This could mean either rippling butterfly-effect changes or gigantic social critiques. These kinds of stories can be real fascinating to me sometimes when an author really dives in and really explore these concepts, since sometimes this can change things within a story. The best example of a genderbending used in the media I can think of is the Fionna and Cake episodes from Adventure Time. In these, while there are some changes to Fionna's personality, she is still a kick butt girl who likes going on adventures. It takes a lot of practice and knowing a lot about psychology in order to pull it off right. When these fics are well written and really show how this will effect a character and their personality, then I will check it out.
MPreg (Male Pregnancy): Normally I won't read these types of stories unless it's a parody, the character is a transsexual/ genderfuild or if there is a very damn good explanation for it. I don't have a problem with people who read and write fan fics like this. It's just not my thing.
Incest: I just don't feel comfortable writing or reading it.If you like stories with this in it, I'm not going to stop you, but it's something that I just try to avoiding reading about in general.
Self Insert Characters: Honestly, I don't see this as automatic death sentence for any fan fiction to have a self insert main character since many professional authors do this. Two examples of characters like this are Stan and Kyle from South Park (they are based off of the creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone). There even authors who makes small cameos in their works like: Clive Cussler from the Dirk Pitt series (where a man appears to the characters to give them relevant information and then drives off to only figure out it's the author a few pages later) or even how Stan Lee somehow shows up briefly in movie adaptions of comic books he has created. However, I do think that you have to be a very talented author in order to pull off adding a self insert as a main character, since most of the time, I do agree, these kinds of characters can become mary sues in the hands of inexperienced authors. If you are going to add a self insert as a main character, you have to be very mature about it. If you do this, you have to add most of your good and bad personality traits to the character, having her make at least some mistakes along the way...otherwise the character has a chance of becoming the dreaded and horrifying creature known as a mary sue. Also, authors having a brief cameo appearances in their own works is completely fine, if anything I find it awesome and is something I might try when I publish my own works.
Pairing wars: Everyone has different opinions on pairings. You can like or dislike whether pairing you want it's your right as a human being. It doesn't give you the right to flame a person for her paring opinions. I do admit some pairings have more evidence than others, but that doesn't give a right to bash a pairing you don't think is "cannon" or doesn't suit your "taste". Sometimes a person's definition of a cannon pairing is different. We're all fans. Whether it's Star Wars, Yugioh, Big Bang Theory, South Park or Spongbob Square Pants. Since we are all fans, we should show respect to each other's opinions.
Flaming: I won't ever flame anyone. I think it's wrong to say extremely hurtful things about another person's work for no reason. I know the writer does a lot work hard and put tons of effort into the story. Even though I might not like it, someone else might. I would only give out constructive criticism and complements.
You know you're a female swimmer or water polo player when... (I made this up) --
You smell like chlorine all the time, even after you shower.
You can't smell chlorine anymore.
Your sweat smells like chlorine.
You have random scratches on your body and have no clue where they came from. (water polo only)
Your hang out place is the pool.
You don't think the water polo hats are funny looking, those things are awesome.
You think it feels weird to swim without a swim cap.
You always wear a full piece swimsuit when you swim.
Butterfly isn't a stroke, it's a pubishment! (or at least I think it is. lol)
You can swim farther then you can run.
You get vexed when people bounce the water polo balls on the pool deck. (The balls lose their grip faster.)
You got kicked out of a hotel for messing around with your friends.
You can swim a kilometer (half a mile), no problem.
You treaded water over 5 mintues, no problem. (water polo only)
You daydream while you swim. (You have no idea how often that happens to me. )

You know you're a vaseshipper/ servantshipper when... (I made this up)
1) Most of your favorite stories in the Yugioh category consist of Vaseshipping and Servantshipping.
2) When you watch Yami summon the DMG in a duel, you just sigh and say, "When will they learn that this is just another way to express their love?"
3) You wish that there were more videos about them
4) You wish that they hooked up in the series
5) You can watch the scene where Mana glomps Atem in the Ancient Egypt arc over a thousand times and never get tired of it
6) You use Atem and Mana as proof that bff's can fall in love
7) Every time one of Atem's stupid fangirls hit on him, you scream, "Bitches! Atem and Mana are soulmates and it's mention to be!"
8) When Atem knew Mana's name as soon as he saw her in the manga, your eyes widened and you said, "YES! FINALLY!"
9) You love watching amv's about them
10) Everytime Atem smiles to himself and stutters when he's around Mana in the anime, you say, "Aww Atem has a crush"
11) You love the idea of childhood bff's falling in love
12) You wish it was more popular
13) You mainly search for vaseshipping images on websites
14) When someone argues that Mana and Atem are just friends, you get right in their face and say, "There's a fine line between love and friendship!"
15) When Atem enters the afterlife, you comfort yourself by saying, "On the bright side, Atem is with his love, Mana, in the afterlife."
16) YOU OBSESS OVER IT 24/7!
If you're a vaseshipper/servantshipper and proud of it, copy and past this to your profile page and add more to the list.

There's another one called Pokemon 2000; well, what the hell does that mean? Is it the date it came out or is it the 2,000th film? There's so damn many of them, I'd believe either one! Seto Kaiba: [after Chazz defeats his brother in a duel for ownership of the school] Of course he won. Did you really think I would give Duel Academy to those two? They have a lot to learn about world domination.
Banner: In Ancient Egypt, one of the most powerful duelists was a Pharaoh named Abidos the Third. He was undefeated.

Re-post this to stop racism
A black man was talking to a white man and said: "I'm black. When I was born I was black. When I grew up, I was black. When I'm sick, I'm black. When I go in the sun, I'm black. When I'm cold, I'm black. When I die, I'll still be black. But you: When you were born, you were pink. When you grew up, you were white. When you're sick, you're green. When you go in the sun you're red. When you're cold, you're blue. When you die, you'll be purple. And you have the nerve to call me colored."
Stop Racism. We are all equal, it doesn't matter what color of skin you have or what nationality you are, we are all human beings and should be treated as such.

I believe Marik's name is MARIK, not MALIK. In ALL the manga books I've read (in print AND online), his name was MARIK, and even on the fanfiction character filter it says his name is "Marik I." If that isn't proof enough that his name is MARIK and not MALIK, I don't know what is. If anything, the Hikari should be called MaRik and the Yami should be called MaLik, not the other way around!!! If you think we should put a stop to the name confusion and that Hikari Marik should be called MARIK instead of MALIK, copy and paste this into your profile.

--Random and/or Amusing Things I Learned While Researching Info for my Stories--
- The written language of ancient Egypt was friggin' COMPLICATED! They had symbols for an alphabet, symbols for combinations of 2, 3, and even 4 consonants, and symbols that were added to clarify meaning and represented no phonetic value.
- Real life Egyptians had a nasty habit of not writing down the letters they considered vowels.
- Luckily, thanks to some vocal sounds we don't have in English, the Egyptians considered the letters A, I, and O/U to be soft consonants.
- The ancient Egyptians called their country "Kemet" which means black sand.
- The ancient Egyptain name for pharaoh was "Per A'a"
-The word for high priest is "Hem Ntjr"
- Some other random Egyptian words I learnt:
Neb-I : my lord
Nisu : Your majesty
Neb/Nebet : My Lord/Lady
Dau Netjer en ek : Thank you
- Royal blood was believed to be passed on from the mother, so pharaohs had to marry a princess to have a legit legal claim to the throne. That explains why so many seemed to marry their sisters/half-sisters. And yet nowhere in the YGO series does it seem as if Atem had a wife... (Strangely I am thankful for that because that's just gross even to think about.)
-Ammit or Ammut, also known as Devourer, as a demon and a personification of justice, ate the condemned forever. Her name literally means Bone Eater.
- The Egyptian word 'amenrenef' means "he whose name is hidden" and, IMO, would have made a better alias for Atem than 'Yami'
- The U added to Atem's name in the Japanese version of YGO would still have been a legit Egyptian word. Egyptians used U the way English speakers use S to make a word plural, so "Atemu" is Atem in the plural tense.
-Dancing played a vital role in the lives of the ancient Egyptians. All social classes were exposed to music and dancing. Dance troupes were accessible to perform at dinner parties, banquets, lodging houses, and even religious temples. Some women from wealthy harems were trained in music and dance. They danced for royalty accompanied by female musicians playing on guitars, lyers and harps.
-The ancient Egyptians sometimes addressed the country as Ta-Mery which means Beloved Land.
- Ancient Egyptians categorized their calendar in three seasons based on agriculture. Shemu = harvest, Akhet = Flooding Season, Peret = Growing.
-The wife of an Egyptian pharaoh is often referred to by Egyptologists as a consort. This is probably due to the fact that in some people's minds, the Egyptian queen was not a wife because of the lack of a religious celebration of marriage.
-Sekhmet is a Egyptian Goddess. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to Egyptians. She was seen as the protector of the Pharaoh and led them into warfare.
-Uraeus is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian Cobra( or serpant, snake..) used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity and divine authority in ancient Egypt. It was usually seen atop a Pharaohs crown. Or on the Mask of a Pharaohs mummy.
- Japanese tend to think of Christmas the way Americans think of Valentine's: romantic instead of religious.
-Japanese baths are meant for soaking in hot water, not cleaning yourself. You wash thoroughly before entering the bath, as the water is always kept in the tub and rarely changed. You either wash on the floor (which may have a drain) or you can just take a shower, which is usually located in the same room as the bath. The toilet is not located in the same room as the bath.
- Japanese New Year is a big holiday, pretty much the whole country stops what it's doing to celebrate.
- The legal age to drink alcohol in Japan is 20 years old. The legal drinking age in Egypt is 18 years old or 21 years old depending on the circumstances.
- Showing your teeth in Japan is considered rude.
- The ancient Egyptian translation for 'mou hitori no boku' or "the other me" is 'Key wi' which means "another me". And yes, it sounds a lot like the Japanese word for cute. lol
- Yugi's cannon birthday is June 4th.
- The first installment of the manga list the events from the past happening 5000 years ago, but it was changed to the more accurate 3,000 years ago very soon in. The dub never picked up on this change, and kept it at 5,000 years ago, which places it in the wrong historical time peroid. (I will always set things in the past in my stories 3000 years ago, not 5000.)
- Pegasus and Mai are 24 years old according the manga. (Now there is a weird thought for ya. lol)
-What do Honey from Ouran High School Host Club and Yugi have in common? They both have a AB blood type.
- Bakura’s name means, by itself, ‘baku’ translates roughly to ‘tapir’; ra is ‘good’ or ‘skilled’. No the creator didn't name him after the animal from South America.
Tapirs are associated with a certain Japanese youkai, a spirit or demon from folklore. The baku are mostly benevolent youkai that are said to eat bad dreams and nightmares so people can sleep peacefully. However, baku are also sometimes depicted as trouble makers that rob people of all their dreams, and sleep. Which is probably symbolism for what Yami Bakura supposedly did to Ryou.
-Malik means "king" in Arabic.
-When a member of the family died in Japan, usually a spouse, the living spouse sets up a small memorial shrine for the deceased which usually involves a picture of the deceased, their favorite things, incense and sometimes their ashes. Traditionally if a widow and widower marry the widower moves the shrine of her former husband into the home of her new husband and the two shrines are places together.
- People call a couple where a girl is taller than the guy a "flea couple" in Japan.
- Yami and Bakura can be both female names.
- In Japan, people dail 110 in an emergancy.
- THE PYRAMINDS IN EGYPT WERE NOT BUILT BY SLAVE LABOUR!

Blog about what life is like in Japan (talks about everything Japanese from Bunny Island to tips on learning how to speak Japanese to White Day and everything in between; I highly recommend this blog since these articles are very amusing and informative and helped me a ton in my own stories )
--About my writing (Only read these if you want to know what to expect in some of my fics, this is going to be long) --
OOC: I'll try to keep the characters away from becoming OOC, but I might stray from the personality of the characters in the anime/manga sometimes by accident. This is moslty because, I will try to make my major characters multidimensional as possible. For example, Yugi would sometimes stand up for himself and can be stubborn at times, instead of being super friendly to every single person and extremly happy the whole entire story. But, I'll try make the characters stay pretty close to their origanal personality. Ryou will no be weak, Yami will not complete air head, Yugi will not be a smart ass, Seto will not a wemonizer and etc. But, if one of the characters does act OCC without any logical reason, I’m really sorry.
I believe that people personalities can be heavily influenced by environmental stimuli and the circumstances that they grew up in. Sometimes my characters will be molded to fit the circumstances they're living in. For example, one of my friends, Youngbountygirl, wrote a "what if" story about Yugi growing up being Kaiba's brother. In a situation like that Yugi would act way differently then the version in the anime since he would've been abused by Seto's dad, had to be the Vice President of a Major gaming company and probably had little to no affection in his life. So in a situation like that Yugi being his normal anime self will make no sense. Another example is I'm planning to do a story with Bakura being the pharaoh and Yami being the thief king. So in that story, Yami most of the time will act like he did in season 0 and Bakura will be acting way more mature since he would be more disaplined then if he grew up on the street.
Ratings: My writing is geared towards teens and adults, so my writing will contain swearing, mature content and violence. Plus, the rating of a multichapter might change at any moment.
Things to expect from my stories: I love adding a sense of action and adventure to some of my story lines, although I like to write other genres such as comedy, fantasy, romance, slice of life or sci fi as well.
I love writing about many different human relationships such as romance, friendship, and family. I will try my hardest to balance them all out in my multi chapter stories.
My goal writing style is to try to be descriptive and to get into each of the characters' thoughts and feelings. Obviously, I'm still learning, so hopefully over time my writing skills will improve.
Some of my stories might contain swearing, violence, romance, and crude humour.
Also, expect some YGOTAS jokes and references once in a while.
What I won't ever write: I will not ever write incest, mpreg, pedophila, lemons or rape in any of my fan fics.
Historical accuracy: I’ll try my best to keep my writing historically accurate as possible, (or much as Yugioh can be). Besides, I love learning about Ancient Egypt. :)
Pairings: I only write for pairings which might be within the realm of plausibility... at least in my own mind, which isn't saying much. The other way is the pairing is actually canon or well on its way to being canon.
I won't do "love at first site" at all in my fanfics. I will try my hardest to keep the romance in my stories realistic as possible.
Grammar Errors: I hate grammar, I suck at it, and I want to send it to the Shadow Realm sometimes. I’ll try my best to correct my grammar mistakes. (If I do a stupid grammar or spelling error in my writing, you can tell me, I won't bite.)
Writing Style: Most of my stories will be told in first person. (I suck at writing in third person. And I really suck at writing in third person omniscient.) Also, the story will be written in first person for whole chapter. But, the point of veiw will alternate between the major characters during multi chapter fics. I can write in third person too, but that's not going to happen too often.
Characterization: I will try to make the characters somewhat believable and make the original characters, especially Yami, Mana, Yugi, Bakura/ (Thief King) and Seto in-character as possible (even though I feel I do fail at this, big time). I will base most of my characterization from the Japanese version of the anime and the manga. Here is how I characterize some of them... or at least try too.
Yugi: Yugi will be trusting, innocent and kind. Yugi is going to a be strong person even before he solved the puzzle. (How else can you handle all of those bullies? XD ) He's willing to scarifice his life too. After all, he did that several times before, including in season 4. He's smart and can figure things out on his own sometimes. Yugi will sometimes stand up for himself and can be stubborn at times too. He will be awkward around girls he likes, aka Tea, lol. I will show how much he's grown since he meet Yami in my writing.
The ancient Egyptian version of his character will be similar, but he'll be more mature, be more regal, will swear and has no idea how to play modern duel monsters. Also he'll have the same personality Yugi did in Yugioh gx. Yugi will be Yami's little brother (or twin) in ancient Egypt in most of my stories too.
Yami/ Atem: I won't write Yami as being super nice or super evil. Yami did some very evil things in the past (season 0 manga), I won't shove it under a rug and pretend it didn't happen; and I will acknowledge that in my writing, especailly in my longer stories. He wil loose his temper and will do some horrible things once in awhile.
Yami will also tend to hide his emotions and won't show them all the time; he will cry once in a blue moon. He'll also be extemly confident, but not be as cocky as Kaiba though. He's passionate when he duels. He also is headstrong and he never gives up. He'll be a worrywart at times. He won't be an "all knowing mentor" like in the 4kids version. But he'll still be more mature for his age, and he will act immature once in a while when he wants to be, sometimes teasing Yugi once in awhile. He can also be rebellious and sexy when he wants too, (aka when he's around Mana, lol). He'll have other hobbies and interests beside duel monsters.
The modern version of Yami will be more carefree and would act more like a normal teenager. Yami is an complex character and I'll try to keep it like that.
Kaiba: We all know he can act like a dick sometimes, but he's the kind of guy who is willing to do anything to acheive a goal. After he was mind crushed, he was willing try to anything to win back his title and prove himself. I'll try to write him this way. Kaiba will be nice to the people who he truely cares about.
Mana: Yes, Mana will be carefree, and energetic sometimes. She will be also headstrong, playful, mischievous, curious, yet calm and controlled when the situation demanded it. She can also be angry or sad if something upsets her enough. She will care about what is happening around her and is willing to help out. She will be able to have fun, and she'll be able to break Yami out of his shell once in awhile. She'll mess up most of the spells, but she can be detrimined too. She will be sometimes extremly blunt and can say some thoughtless or rude things. The modern version of Mana won't be super childish or hyper, well most of the time.
Tea: I'll write like she is in the manga. She'll be a tomboy and not afraid to fight back if she needs too. She'll also be kind when she needs to be. I will try my hardest not make her do "friendship speeches" or become completely love sick over Yami.
Bakura: I am one of the people who believes Yami Bakura is the Thief King and not Zorc. I will try to keep his attitude and personality, while still keeping him sane. He will still have a conscience, and he'll care about Ryou super deep down. (Think of how Aseria or ShadowClanWarrior writes him, I guess.)
The modern version, who I'll call Remu, will most of the time be Ryou's brother. Like the Thief King, he would be good at con games and stealing. He'll care about Ryou and do anything to protect him. Though, he can be an ass sometimes and can sometimes say some very snarky comments, but he's not evil.
Marik: This all depends on what point in time the fic takes place in. Rare hunters/Battle City Marik would be way different from childhood Marik and post-Battle City Marik.
After Battle City, Marik will be loyal, outspoken, strong and kind towards people he truly cares about. Marik will have a good understanding of ancient Egypt and other ancient cultures from his tombkeeper past. Marik will be very close to his older brother and sister, willing to do anything to protect them. Marik can identify with the Pharaoh; and sometimes he can be the only person that can understand what Pharaoh is truly going through. This is because he believes they both had done horrible things in the past and have to deal with their mistakes. Marik constantly has to stay strong, so his inner darkness wouldn't take over again; which is also his worst fear. However, Marik can also make some very snarky comments sometimes, even being a bit mischievous.
Marik can be head strong when he duels. He'll also have a zombie deck too (YoungBountyGirl's idea) when he duels in tournaments or against bad guys. He does this to honour his tombkeeper roots, and secretly to annoy Joey.
During Battle City, Marik would be like he is in the anime and manga.
For Yami and Yugi's appearances: They look very similar and it very hard to tell them apart. They are both are the same height, and they both have the same eye colour. The only physical differences between them is that Yami has few extra gold streaks in his hair. That's it. There is no height difference between them.
However, some of my more realistic stories, they both will have a more realistic apperance with medium length black hair and brown eyes. The only difference between them then is that Yami has a tad more mature face.
OC Characters: I know that sues have a enact of marring the reputation of many stories and fan fics, but that doesn't stop me from taking a shot of creating characters in my own fan fics once in awhile. I will do any in my power to make my original characters not mary sues, making them believable as possible. The only exception to this is when I make a mary sue on propose in parody stories.
Most of the time I will use an oc is a event where I do need one. For example, we never see the Yugi's dad in the anime or manga and I want to use him, so I have to make him up. He'll just be will be mentioned as being a part of Yugi's past. The oc's will mostly only have secondary role, be the main villain (which I'm planning to do when the cannon stuff is over in Welcome to my Bizarre Life), or will be apart of the main cast and won't be romantically involved with any of the cannon characters (which I'm planning to do in my Thief King story) in my stories.
I won't ever write a story with a oc being romantically involved with a character (cannonxOc) as the main pairing. The only time I might have an oc involved with a canon character is as a side pairing and nothing more. In addition, these characters are not going to be "self inserts". I will go out of my way to make them completely different from myself, giving them traits and many character flaws like I would with any of my other characters. The only true self inserts of myself is probably going to be a quick one shot cameo appearance and nothing more then that.
As a side note, if any of my original characters come off as extreme sues for no reason, especially my original characters which are paired up with cannon ones, please let me know. Also, I understand that most protagonists, even in canon, are going to have some "sueistics" to make the character more appealing to the audience and to give the character depth, unless an author plans to add the next Holden Caulfield (from the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger) in her fic or be the first person ever to make a desk a main character with no other traits besides being an object. In addition, I also understand this definition can vary depending on the universe since what might be an overly powerful character in one setting might not be in another. If they are like any extreme mary sue character you can think of, I'll do you all the favour of destroying the character for you since I hate characters like that as much as most of you guys do.
Plotlines Based on Moives or Other Animes: I like to use the general ideas of books, animes or movies sometimes. For stories inspired by a movie, I will use the loose idea of a movie or anime and use a lot of my own ideas, trying to make my own version of the story. I will base the characters on their Japanese anime personalities and not make them act like clones of the characters from the movie for no logical reason. I promise won't completely copy every single scene from a movie, having no differences from the original movie other then the characters share the same names as the ones from Yugioh. Some people who I think do this extremly well are D17- PharaohFox, Youngbountygirl, Valkyrie Elysia or BlackRoseDragonCK .
Character Naming: I'll use the English names for my characters in my writing. I have nothing against the Japanese names, in fact I think some of them are awesome, it's just I've grown up with the English version and recognise those names better.
In addition, I'll only use the name, "Yami" when I'm talking about Atem, and not the spirits of all the Millennium Items.
I will always call the lighter half Marik in my writing. I will generally refer the darker half as Melvin since I'm a fan girl of the Yugioh Abridged series or Malik or Yami Marik.
I don't like the name Yami Yugi AT ALL, because Yugi and Yami aren't the same person! (Don't get me started on that rant again.) Normally he'll be called Yami, Atem, Namless Pharaoh, Prince or Pharaoh in my fan fics depending on the character. Also, Yami and Atem are going to be the same person, the only difference his names are different modern and ancient times.
I'll call always the host Ryou and the spirit inside the ring Bakura. I won't use the name Yami Bakura in my writing all, so if I mention the name Bakura in my writing I mean "Yami Bakura" not Ryou!
--Criticism Definitions 101: For Writers and Critics (Taken from Peachie Wookie's Profile)--
Authors and authoresses, I think we all need a tutorial on what the differences between flames, harsh criticism and constructive criticism are. We all criticize our fellow authors' works at one time or another, reminding ourselves that none of us are perfect. It is important, therefore to know what the differences between flames, harsh criticism and constructive criticism.
1. The flame: A flame is characterized by no suggestions on improvement. It is simply a diatribe on how the story sucked, the author sucked and how s/he should get out of writing because s/he has no talent. A flame may also contain vulgar language, particularly language that would not be acceptable on North American TV. A borderline flame may contain some constructive criticism, but it also has insults that do nothing to help the author. A flame also contains insults toward the author in different forms.
2. The harsh (but useful) criticism: Okay, many of us have had a criticism that we agreed or disagreed with for some reason. Perhaps we needed to hear what was said, but it was phrased less than diplomatically. The critic intended honesty but was perhaps a little bit too blunt or used language that was too rough for the situation. This is not a flame, but is a criticism that can be used to our advantage.
3. The constructive criticism: This type of criticism contains what a critic liked about the story and what s/he felt you could improve upon. It is well worded and you, the author, can say, "Okay, this is definitely where I need some improvement and I'm glad you pointed that out."
Ps: I can take criticism as long as it constructive and you aren’t being totally rude about it. I’m also happy to hear from you good or bad, (preferably good though lol). I also apologize in advanced for the spelling and grammar errors in my writing. If you have a question about something in my writing, just ask, I'm not going to bite.
