Author has written 7 stories for Harry Potter, and Twilight.
Welcome to the fanfic home of a long-time Harry Potter addict, who loves the HP novels, along with the Lord of the Rings, and Twilight also has a special place in my heart. I have been an avid fanfic reader for many years, and after lurking around on this site for quite a while, I decided the time now is ripe to tell you a bit about myself, as well as begin to share my own stories with you. Reading and writing are my passions, although writing in English is fairly new to me, as it is not my native language. To me, reading and writing may be compared to fly away on the wings of fantasy and visit new, eras, worlds and dimensions, thus my username. "To read is to travel", as the saying goes.
J.K Rowlings HP books belong to the very best I have ever read, and they have made an indelible mark on my life.:) Professor Severus Snape is my absoute HP favourite character, such a fascinating, enigmatic dark hero, really, as Harry says, the bravest man ... As a child, I adored the Narnia series, and it will also always maintain a special place in my heart, overall, I like Fantasy and Sci-Fi.
However, it was actually the Twilight books that first brought me into the amazing world of fanfiction. One day, approximately seven years ago, I on impuls searched the internet after Twilight stories, as I had just finished the series and had a craving for more ( I guess I am a hopeless romantic fellow, and the ending of Breaking Dawn just did not feel like the end, there is no way the Volturi will forget that day, when they had to leave with their tails between their legs, figuratively speaking) and then I was hooked :) So, yeah, fanfiction is addictive ... Just a warning to all you newbies on this site!
So, my venture into fanfiction started with Twilight, and I am really happy I found this treasure of literature that the fanfiction world is. :) I know that some people crinkle their noses at fanfiction, not regarding it as "real" literature, as the authors build their works on already created worlds and borrow someone else's already established characters. However, as I see it, many fanfics are just so original in their own way when the authors put the characters into new situations and settings, expanding and/or alterning the original universe, and some stories are so AU that they in many ways can be regarded as original works in their own right, creating new characters, plots and settings ...
Although fanfiction in this form is a fairly new phenomenon ( due to the invention of the internet), I think you all agree that in truth, is this not exactly what has always been done, throughout all history? So, in a way, it is not at all new, because, honestly, looking at the history of fictional literature, is it not a tale of storytellers and authors borrowing from each other, getting ideas and inspiration from other's works? It is a never ending circle ... Just look at Tolkien, who is called the Father of Fantasy, and the many following in his footsteps, writing books populated by elves and dwarves of different kinds, creatures, that in turn, have their origins in various kinds of folklore ... and Tolkien himself was inspried, among other things, by Norse mythology, alongside the Bible, being a confessional Catholic. Speaking of the Bible, what would the Western literature be like without the Bible? Rather different, wouldn't you agree? For example, what would the Narnia books be, without the Bible?
So, as you may have guessed, I prefer AU stories, what is the fun in fanfiction which follows the canon story line exactly? No, I like to shake up things a bit ...to me, that is the whole point of fanfiction. :) When I think about it, I suppose it is above all, the world and the characters of HP that I am in love with, not the canon plot, necessarily. Thus, I don't mind alternate story lines, for example, I love stories where Snape gets a happier life, and Harry, a happier childhood, but, in general, I prefer stories faithful to the core personalities of the original characters. I wish to be able to recognize them from canon, and not only by name and looks. That said, I love HP animagi and creature stories, if they are well written.
As mentioned above, I started my fanfiction adventure during my Twilight days, but, as I absolutely love the HP novels, I soon started to look for fanfics featuring Harry and friends, and found a never ending treasure, and, I would say, that is my main fandom today, although I still like Twilight, and have found quite a few great crossovers on this site, the best of two worlds ..., and I love to explore the Twilight universe and characters further, in prequels and sequels to the original saga. For example, what was Alice's life like, before she joined the Cullens, and what happens after the end of Breaking Dawn? What will the Volturi do? So yeah, it IS possible to like both Twilight and Harry Potter, as it is possible to like both the Marauders and Snape, none of them is perfect, but human, as we all, and that is precisely what makes them such great characters ... Next to Snape, Remus Lupin is a great fav, alongside his wife, Harry himself, of course, and Hermione, Sirius and Luna are pretty cool too. In regards to HP prequels and sequels, I find James Potter I, Teddy Lupin and Albus Severus Potter intriguing characters to explore. As for Twilight, I would say that Alice, Jasper and Carlisle are my top favs, followed by Edward and Bella, of course, and Jacob is pretty cool too. I also quite like the gender swaped version, Life and Death, it's an interesting alternate Twilight universe.
That's all for now, folks!
Take care and happy reading! Reviews make me smile :)
