Author has written 15 stories for Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Veronica Mars.
Hi there. Come on in and pull up a chair in my little corner of the internet.
Let me introduce myself: I'm Witherwings, but you can call me Wings. I'm a thirty-[cough cough] year old Dad of two from the UK.
I've enjoyed writing fiction based on TV, film and books for more than ten years now, but it has only been in the last couple of years that I discovered ffnet and mustered the courage to publish anything.
My current writing obsession is the Harry Potter universe and its fair to say that fandom has opened my eyes to many wondeful interpretations of JKR's imaginative world, not least in convincing me to board the good ship Harmony. That said, a good story is a good story, and if Hermione (my favourite character) has to be with Ron or someone else, as long as it is well written and engaging I'll read it.
I've also become completely hooked on the Hunger Games series. My sister introduced it to me and I tore through the trilogy in a couple of days and, wouldn't you know it, within minutes of finishing 'Mockingjay' I'd started work on a HG fic. *rolls eyes*
Oh, just a thought guys and gals, whilst I am more than happy to answer questions in your reviews, it does makes it kind of impossible to do so if you don't sign-in.
Finally I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has read, favourited and/or reviewed my stories. It means a great deal to me that you all have taken the time to read my little offerings.
My in progress stories
Better Never than Late - Chapter 24 is up.
Only Love Can hurt Like This - A two shot following the events around Hermione's 19th Birthday. I would like to take a moment to respond the many comments (too many to reply to everyone individually) about the way the story ends. The ambiguous ending came about for two reasons: 1) I liked it. 2) The possible conclusions I had in my head were all pretty dark (remember the central theme was love hurts) so I thought it kinder to allow the reader to form a happily ever after ending in their mind if they so wished. Whatever your thoughts, thank you all for reading; biggest response I have had to a story in, well, ever!
The Needs of the One - A BIG change of pace for me. I've never attempted to write romance before, and whilst there isn't any smut, it's still well out of my comfort zone. *Update* I'm re-editing the story at the moment and I've managed to re-post as far as chapter seven thus far. A massive thank you to anyone who has clicked on TNOTO; it has just passed 325,000 hits!
Denstiny's Past - Feeling a bit sorry for itself watching 'Needs' outstrip it for reviews, alerts and hits. It's still my baby and I love it regardless! I should warn anyone who fancies checking out my first Potterverse story that it is quite a complicated concept (lots of jumping in and out of story arcs) but there is a half way decent pay off for those hardy few who make it through to the epilogue.
Desire - Inspired by something my eldest son asked me about the Mirror of Erised. Thanks to everyone who stuck with it through its long gestation.
I Feel Nothing - The teenage Severus Snape was an Emo poet...who knew? Check out this little one shot if you want to see what the dark and conflicted mind of a person on the brink of the Dark Side looks like in poetry format. Written for respitechristopher and Sara Winters.
The Wand's Choice - A little one shot inspired by a couple of excellent fics I read by Romantic Silence and Namedawesome respectively.
Clear Reflections - Another story using a minor character from the HP universe to show Harry and Hermione how much they mean to one another. In this case, Sybill Trelawney.
The Nature of Reality - A oneshot based on the Buffy episode 'Normal Again'. It was written as an aid to a BNTL chapter and is now something of a companion piece to that story. It also stands alone as a dark, mess with your head, kind of ficlet, for those of you who like that kind of stuff.
Like Father Like Son - This is a sweet little story I was asked to write by my friends at 'The Teachers' Lounge' featuring a pre-dawn chat between Ron and Hugo Weasley before the latter's first day at Hogwarts.
Under the Stairs - A little ficlet that came to me in a dream. Literally. I woke up at 4am and had to scribble it down before I could get back to sleep! Considering it is barely more than a Drabble, I have been astounded with the response it has recieved. Thanks to all that have read it.
Merlin's Cave - In an effort to kick start my stalled multi-chapter stories, I accepted a challenge at the Teachers' Lounge forum to write a Tonks/Charlie Weasley one-shot of no less than 1500 words. This was the result.
Regrets – My first try at writing in a different fandom for a while. In this case Veronica Mars.
In the Pipeline
I've got a couple of projects bubbling around in my brain at the moment, so I thought I'd list them here whilst I tinker with them behind the scenes.
The Needs of the Many (Sequel to the Needs of the One) - Slow going at the moment. It does at least have a title and an outline now, but I still don't expect to be uploading anything anytime soon. I seriously can not have three ongoing, full length stories on the boil at the same time.
Liar Liar - Set in in the aftermath of the "I must not tell lies" incident.
To the Victor Belong the Spoils - My first Hunger Games fic. Narrated by Haymitch Abbernathy, it is my attempt to tell his story between the events of the 50th and 74th Hunger Games. *Update* I've placed TTVBTS on hiatus. I will finish it, but I have too much stuff on my plate atm.
Dancing With Another Man – A sequel (of sorts) to Only Love Can Hurt Like This.
