My Top 10 Lists
I'm going to write down my Top 10 picks in a specific Genre (Mostly anime Related) counting down to the best one. Remember these are MY picks and is purely opinion based...but I wrote a list and you didn't which automatically make my opinions better then yours. :P Na-na-na-na-na.
A lot of times when i write a fanfic, I don't have time to finish a scene I write and often lose focus when I try to write it later. So When I don't have time tow rite I am going to write up some lists.
How this is going to work is I will have a Subject and I'll count down 10 to 1. I'll also write a brief review of why I like it and why it's where it is on the list. Once I start the list I'll start with revealing 10 and every few days will add the next number down until I reveal number one.
If you don't like my list, or simply disagree with my opinions (And trust me a lot of you will!) Just make your own list and write down why you like it. All reviews are objective and lists like this are no different.

Top 10 Anime Heros
Heroes, date way back to myths of the Ancient World. The first hero in recorded history was a man named Gilgamesh, the Fifth King of Uruk who's legend dates around 2500 B.C. Since then stories have been told and evolved from the myths of Hercules and Odysseus into modern day figures like Batman and Superman. But what is it that really makes someone a Hero? Is it having Strength? The Will to press on? The ability to forgive? The humility to rely on others when needed? Which of these are marks of a true hero?
...I don't know. Doesn't mean I can't list my favorites! :D
Hero's of anime certainly fall into the Myth and Legends Category as much as Comic Book heroes and a lot of them offer a view into ourselves and we can accomplish if we work as hard and are as determined as they are. As I go down my list I will be looking at the aspects listed above as well as the aspects of "The Heroes Journey" (Look it up) and if you don't agree with my list...
Oh, and unlike my last list, they're maaaaaaay be some spoilers. Just fair warning.
10. Ragna the Bloodedge - Blazblue: Alter Memory
YES! YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES! This anime only has (As of now) 8 episodes But it has on of the most BAD-ASS Hero's ever!
Ragna the Bloodedge is a S-class criminal with the highest bounty in history. $90,000,000,000! When Ragna was young, he lived at a church with two of his younger siblings, brother Jin and sister Saya. Saya became very ill and Ragna decided to look after her, and in turn spending less time with his brother. Jin eventually grew jealous of Saya for being able to spend a lot of time with Ragna, and he began to hate her. Soon after Saya became sick, the church was burnt down by Jin, who also cut off Ragna's right arm and supposedly, killed Saya. Ragna survived and his arm was replaced with the Azure Grimoire (or Blazblue) which has the ability to steal souls and give Ragna dark powers. He used this power (And a Bigass sword) to declare a one man war against the NOL Government and constantly destroy their Cauldrons (Devices used for smelting souls into more Powerful weapons).
Let me start by saying, Yes, Blazblue was a Video game before it was an Anime, but once the anime started to air on Funimations website, that argument get's thrown out the window. AND if your interested in seeing the long awaited Animated series to my most favorite story themed fighting game EVER….don't…it's a complete mess.
Ragna is the tough guy. He's been through hell and it has made him sour. He is sardonic, rude, and abrasive to anyone he comes across. He is also quick to anger, stubborn, and swearing is his second language. This makes him AWESOME!...it also makes him a stereotypical anime delinquent.
Beneath his gruff exterior, however, Ragna does possess a softer, more compassionate side. He chooses to keep up his public front because of the path he chose – that of revenge. He does genuinely care for certain people, such as Taokaka, Noel and Jubei.
His ultimate goal is, what I just said, revenge. Revenge against Jin for destroying their family. Revenge against the man who manipulated Jin and so on.
...so whats wrong with Ragna? Well, as I said, he is the Stereotypical Anime Delinquent and in Alter Memory, it's far more exploited. He is kinda predictable and you know what he's going to do and say. In fact one of the Villains actually says his line before he does.
Ragna: Terumi, you-
Terumi: You Son of a bitch! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
And the biggest crime the Anime does is, it makes him the center of the whole Series.
...I might need to explain that. You see, in the games, characters have their own arcs. For example, Bang has an Arc. Platinum has an Arc. Carl has an Arc and so on. The series has a lot of interesting characters whose stories all converge at a certain point. The anime, doesn't spend a lot of time on this and push some characters aside and to compensate they focus more on the main characters, like Ragna and he ends up becoming involved in the character arcs he doesn't belong in and he has to get involved. What does it prove in the end? Absolutely nothing! You just wanted your main character to be apart of it.
Being a Fan of the game series, I pick a lot of it apart, but Ragna is Represtent farely and is a Badass hero!
Oh, and Also: He rocks that Red Coast like a MOTHERF*ING BOSS!!!! That Red Coast is ENOUGH to get him on this list! Oh Yeah!!!!
9. Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans - Soul Eater
You can say I'm Cheating on this one, because it's two instead of one, but honestly you can't have one without the other.
Maka is meister of the Death Weapon Meister Academy and Soul is her weapon. Together they hunt down Evil souls who kill and devour human souls. Once the evil soul is killed Soul then Eat's the Evil soul. He must eat 99 evil souls and one Witch Soul to become a Death Scythe, an all powerful weapon.
There really isn't a lot to say about these two. Maka is the Strait A Student and Soul is the Cool guy weapon. What really makes them both Compelling is their chemistry. They've both been through a lot together and when Scenes with Soul taking a Blow to protect Maka and Maka later feeling guilt for him is real.
But what is it that makes them heroes?
Well they are the most serious of the other Meister-Weapon pairings in the school and stand up against every challenge that comes there way, but other than that their really insist anything about them that stand out heroically.
Number 8. Vash the Stampede - Trigun
To quote one Ms. Meryl Stryfe; "Does this man look like the legendary gunman Vash the Stampede? That droopy-eyed, weak-looking, bristle-headed, promiscuous-looking donut freak of a man?"
Vash the Stampede is definitely one of those 'Never judge a book by it's cover' Heroes (Although he rocks the Red Coat Ragna Style! He's oblivious, ignorant, perverted, and obsessed with Donuts. On top of that he destroyed the city of July ad has 60,000,000,000$$ on his head...
...wait...he destroyed a CITY?!...*looks at list title*...Am I doing the right list?
Let's start from the beginning, Vash is a Plant. Yes a plant. He was genetically engineered in a lab and is a wild experiment that never ages when he reaches a certain age. He constantly travels a desert world spreading his philosophy of “PEACE AND LOVE!” He's also a Woman lover and Donut enthusiast.
...but what about the destroyed city?...
He's a goof, a screw up and an idiot. So how is he a hero? Well one thing you should know, all the stupid stuff he does...he does it on purpose. He's a master gun slinger and helps out towns and people whenever trouble follows him there and swears never to kill any one. But...he leaves a bit of destruction in his wake. It doesn't happen that often...ok it does. So much so he has two insurance agents following him wherever he goes!
...but what about the destroyed city?...
Watch the anime. It'll explain it.
In the end Vash the Stampede is just a Kind hearted, master gunslinging goof who loves woman and donuts who doesn't like to kill.
And He's voiced by Johnny Young Bosch, the former Black power ranger which automatically makes him awesome.
Number 7. Goku - Dragonball/Dragonball Z
"Boooooo! BOOOOOO! BOO! BOOOOOO! BOOOOOOO! BOO!"
Those Boo's you hear are from all my friends who grew up watching DBZ. Many of them argue He should be #1. I don't see it.
Let's start off with the positives. First off, he could kick the a* of anyone else on this list. Without a doubt Goku can beat anyone in a fight. Ichigo, Luffy, Naruto, THERE IS NO ARGUMENT! No one can beat Goku in a fight and that's final. There are several reasons for this, First it's in his Sayian blood. A Sayin is an Alien species from another world, born as Warriors. The theory is if a Sayian battles more the stronger they get, so even if Goku uses one round of the fight he will come back stronger.
Another thing that Set's Goku apart from the other Hero's mentioned is that he doesn't spend his time sailing, investigating, whining, or emoting. He TRAINS! Thats right the majority of Goku's spare time is training so he can get stronger. That's what set's him apart here. Thats why NO ONE will ever beat Goku in fight! Not Naruto! Not Natsu! Not Ichigo! Not Superman! Not anybody!
Well if he's so strong why is he so low on this list?
Personality. He is so Bland! We have seen this character countless times before. He's a Naive innocent, but is strong. He Fight's when he needs to, but doesn't want to kill. If you hurt his friends he will pursue you with all his rage. He keeps an up beat attitude even though he's in a full body cast. There is nothing interesting about him. In Dragonball he was a little interesting acting like an arrogant brat, but that's not enough to give him a real personality through the entirety of the series.
Sorry Goku, you're the strongest character on this list, but your just not interesting enough.
Hey, You now how many people hate Goku being this low…?
Vegeta: "OVER 9000!!!!!"
Hehe. I'll never get tired of that line.
Number 6. Allen Walker - D.Gray-Man
Let me start by saying that in the Dub of D.Gray-Man, Todd Haberkorn was the WRONG choice to play Allen. Todd is a good VA and he did a good job, but I just felt it wasn't the right fit. I didn't see Allen, I saw Todd trying to voice Allen.
As I said in my "Top 10 Anime" list, Allen's an Exorcist that battles Akuma. He has a power of 'Innocence' called a Parasite type which is just a huge Claw that kills. He also has a cursed eye that Allows him to attack Akuma.
Allen has some of the same faults as Goku, as he is pretty bland. He's a Naive innocent, but is strong. He Fight's when he needs to, but doesn't want to kill and so on and so on. But what makes him different from Goku is that Allen is still very young. He's only 15 in the series and with all that's happened in the Manga he' still only 16 years old. I can forgive him because being so young you can argue he hasn't had a real chance to develop. In the anime I can see several events that can influence him several years down the road and change him and could make him more interesting.
That said, he still keeps up an innocent smile and does his best to be that 'Good' good guy.
(Spoiler warning ahead)
Now from what I've heard about the Manga, Allen actually joins the bad guys in the recent Arcs. I want to touch on this, because it shows that it is possible to turn allegiances now matter how strong ones will is. Why'd he turn? Don't know. I'm nowhere that deep in the Manga and can't give a clear answer, but I hear it has something to do with Allen's adoptive father Mana.
It's hard to imagine Allen turning Heel in this story, but it does make him interesting and thats more then I can say for Goku. And that's why Allen is higher on the list.
Number 5. Natsu Dragneel - Fairy Tail
Now take a look back at Number 6. Remember, how I said Todd Haberkorn didn't fit as Allen? Well that is not the case with Natsu. Todd is perfect as the Fire Dragon Slayer, getting all the emotions and inflections of his voice. I didn't see Todd trying to voice Natsu…I SAW NATSU! And when you can perfectly believe a Character is real, an actor does their job perfectly.
Gold star for Todd! :D
Natsu is a kickass character. Raised from a boy by the Dragon Igneel, he was granted the powers of the Fire Dragon Slayer. Once he joined Fairy Tail, he became part of a larger family. Now Unlike Goku and Allen Walker, his personality is strikingly opposite…mostly. He'll fight the strongest opponent to test his skills. He'll fight any bad guys just for the fun of a good fight. Hell, he'll fight his OWN friends for fun! HE LOVES TO Fight. Hell he is more like Kenpachi Zaraki form Bleach then the other Bland hero's on this list!
And he is truly a Hero. In every Arc he battles the strongest opponent in that Arc. Erigor, Gajeel, Jellal, Laxus, Zero, and so on! Willing his way through every fight never giving up. I dare say, he is Inspiring in every fight. Literally, as others around him are giving up, he keeps fighting and will's them back into the fight.
And he even has an exploitable weakness. Motion sickness. He can't ride on a vehicle or he will become sick and un able to move….that sucks.
Number 4. Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist
Before the Fangirls decide they want to cut me up into little tiny pieces and feed me to the gorillas, let me explain why he is only number 4. In Fullmetal Alchemist, you have 2 Protagonist Edward and Alphonse. They both share the load and are definitive heroes.
Then why not put them together like I did with Maka and Soul? Well…because Alphonse is a wuss. Even though he is active and does a lot, he's gullible most of the time and complains a lot, especially about ho he doesn't have a body….
Now that I've angered ALL the fangirls out there, lets talk about Edwards good points. :D
His quote "You have two legs, use them" is more directed at himself then some girl at a church. When he hit his lowest point, he felt there was nothing he could do, he was willing to give up. However, because of his bother's soul trapped in a metal suit, he can't. He has to push himself because he's not doing this for himself, he's doing for his brother and as an Older brother, he is responsible for him.
Throughout the series, his greatest strength is what holds him back. That is his Alchemy. In the beginning, he hopes Alchemy we'll bring his mother back to life from the dead. Instead it becomes the source of all there problems. Next he hopes the scared Relic of Alchemy, the Philosophers Stone, will allow him to bypass the laws of Alchemy. He finds out the Philosophers Stone costs human souls to make and his moral center won't allow him to use it.
There is a great part in the Manga, when the baby is coming and they need to cross a canyon during a raging storm to get the doctor. Edward tries to use Alchemy to create a bridge across the canyon. The bridge is unstable and falls apart. He tries to create supports for the bridge, but the raging river below prevents those supports from staying. In this moment he says, "Alchemy should be the answer to every problem".
And that's the problem!
When Alchemy becomes your answer to everything, it blinds from alternatives to solve the problem. This is why the end of the series is a Masterpiece! He is confronted by Truth and Truth is wondering what he is going to give up for Al's soul, thinking there is nothing worth the price. Ed just smiles and points to the Gate behind. The Gate that held his Alchemy, his Arcane Knowledge, the Secrets of the Universe he once coveted, He is willing to give it all up for his brother. He learned that it is not Alchemy that holds all the answers, but the bonds and friendships he forged held all the answers he needed that no Knowledge of God can give him.
And in the End Truth relents and gives Al his body back. The Simple Act of Edward realizing his flaw and Sacrificing all the answers he hoped to answer one day, all for the sake of loved ones, is enough to get Ed to Number 4 on my list.
Oh yeah he also ROCKS THE RED COAT LIKE A MOTHER F*ING BOSS! NEED A RED COAT TO BE A BADASS HERO! F* YEAH!
((Number 3…coming soon)
