Author has written 30 stories for Silmarillion, Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor, and Great Expectations.
The night air chills the traveler, creeping (cold, now that the Sun rests) beneath the sojourner's garments. Hours upon the long road have wearied her (or him, perhaps), and the traveler's feet are leaden, stirring up the lane's dust as tattered rubber soles drag the journeyman onward.
Stars have but just begun to prick the black canvas of the cloudless sky, a hundred thousand celestial candles that dim the new moon. Crickets chirp in low rosebushes scattered haphazard beside the dirt path. There is no sound for miles but the insects' song and the lethargic shuffle of the sojourner's footsteps.
The road bends, and the traveler listlessly turns with it. She glances briefly at her feet, and when she looks up she finds a house now blocks her way. It's a small house, little more than a shack, and one in shambles. A rusty gutter dangles off it at an uncomfortable angle; the roof, patched in part with bright blue tarp, is missing not a few shingles. Yet suddenly its crooked door swings open, nearly thrown from its hinges by a clammy hand.
"Welcome!" chirps a female voice, "to my humble profile."
I'm Crackers (CrackinAndProudOfIt, for long!), and for starters, I am a writer and Tolkien aficionado. As (I hope) you can see from the above Heinously Melodramatic Introduction, I love adjectives, write rambling sentences with commas in most of the right places, and have a thing for excessive sensory descriptions. Also, please forgive my self-indulgent metaphors. (Their cheese is the sole sustenance of my emaciated muse. ;)
But I do hope there's more to me than that! Some days there is, at any rate. Ah, and it looks like today is one of those days! Excellent! Here we go, some facts about me:
I don't like vacuum cleaners.
I do like washing the dishes.
I like to get up early and stay up late, as long as there's something worth being awake for.
I am a shameless Silmarillion nerd (but I try not to be obnoxious about it :).
I woke up one morning last year and found myself in bed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I had no memory of the night before, but I soon learned we were married. And I was quite okay with that.
Thus the emotional wringers of Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought me both pleasure and pain.
My favourite Karamazov is Ivan.
I'm "somewhat" crazy about BBC Sherlock (and I love Season 3).
I like dark characters (Maeglin, anyone? Curufin, Gollum, Denethor? Eöl? Loki?), but I don't like making excuses for them.
I have finally read the entire Sherlock Holmes canon. I am in love.
I am also in love with Edgar Allan Poe's narrator, which is...possible. :)
Oh, that colon-parenthesis reminds me: I overuse emoticons! (And exclamation points!)
Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films are delightful interpretations of Tolkien's work; I adore all three! However, I equally adore complaining about everything wrong with them. *blushes the blush of a bashful Purist*
His Hobbit films are a different matter. To be honest, I have mostly positive feelings about An Unexpected Journey, despite the many, er, deviations (I'm looking at you, Azog the Defiler of that movie). The Desolation of Smaug, though? Let's just call it "The Desolation" and be done. *trumpets the trumpet of a bellicose Purist*
I review pretty much everything that I read, and I always try to give the type of feedback I like to receive.
I request that you please don't read my older work. (It makes me self-conscious. ;)
I am, in fact, a feminist.
I'm a starry-eyed fangirl (and also a student!) of the languages Arabic and Spanish.
I have the best time ever beta'ing other writers' work.
I'm very (perhaps overly) friendly. Please don't hesitate to drop me a PM or an email! ()
Last and most importantly, I am a Christian, a Bible-believing follower of the risen Savior Jesus Christ. His love for you and me is beautiful, powerful, and unconditional. His arms are always open.
