Hey, all! Welcome . . . and moving on now.
For several years, I have been spending too much time on FFN. It has become a large—and in many ways unwholesome—drain on my time, and numerous attempts to control this addiction have failed. Therefore, I am posting a public list of my personal resolutions. These are to counteract the compromises I have made (or may be tempted to) over the years—my focus should be on things that are wholesome. I do not list these to point out any differences between you and me, but rather I ask you to hold me accountable to them.
1. If a story directly includes physical intimacy between unmarried people or romantic relations between two of the same gender, I will stop reading as soon as it becomes obvious. Although such things are no longer frowned upon in modern culture, history (especially that of the US) displays a clear decline of morals when the former became acceptable. The latter goes against all I have ever observed in the laws of nature and is not something I agree with (please note this does not mean I hate people who do agree with it).
2. My own writing will reflect the consequences visible in real life. As humans, we do wrong things, and my characters will be held accountable for their misdeeds. I refuse to glorify flaws or sins. Reading is a powerful tool and one of the many ways we can learn to distinguish right from wrong. (To tie this to my first resolution, I will never include those things in a story's immediate narration. And as a side note, my writing will never include strong language.)
3. For every chapter that I read, I will read a chapter of the Bible. The former may not "stack," but will rather be read between chapters of fiction. If my conscience is bothered by a stark contrast between Scripture and a fic, I will immediately pause my reading of said fic. Time will therefore be spent evenly at the very least.
To any who have taken offense: First and foremost, God loves you. His commandment to Christians is to love all in the world, and while some days I struggle with this, I can still say that I would never mean to offend someone that I love. Jesus Christ (who loves you more than you can even love yourself) died for the sin of all mankind. If you repent of your sin and ask Him to save you, you will no longer be condemned to an eternity of torment (the wages of sin) and will instead live forever with the One who created you (the only One that can fill the longing, searching who-am-I-why-am-I-here-how-can-I-feel-loved drive that all humans have). I'm sorry if I offended you, but I cannot apologize for something so important. You see, one day time will end, and the drive that has fueled humanity's search for immortality will be fulfilled. Which do you choose: eternal life or eternal judgment?
I know there are many on this site who trust in God as I do, and if you are one of those, I greet you in the love of our Savior. If you are looking for companionship, or perhaps are in need of encouragement, I ask you to PM me (the same applies if you are not a believer). And if anyone is interested in reposting some version of this, please feel free.
I believe in Jesus Christ the Lord as my Saviour and redeemer, and could not live without him in my life. If you do too, and aren't afraid to admit it, copy and paste this into your profile, and add your name to the list.
