I'm Leah Day from Australia, an Aussie/kiwi Scorpio, born in the early eighties, who loves reading and writing. There's a lot on here, you're probably thinking I'm a self absorbed git fart ... Hmmm. Well, actually, I've just got a lot to tell ya! First off, email address. I really hope it shows up because I've been getting a lot of guest reviews asking me about stories, it's annoying not to be able to get back to people so here is my email address.
Please only use it for questions about stories, not for abuse hurlings, I am not interested in reading rants and whinges because a story was not up to "your" expectations, apologies for the snottiness- I am hung over.
Am not hung over anymore, that was in 2013, I'm feeling something else now.
Please do not do the following
1-Re post my work in a different language. As author I am very possessive of my work and although I am flattered that you like it, I would prefer you to use a translator, eg Google, rather then re post it.
2- Archive it without my consent. again, really, really flattered you enjoyed it, but I am very possessive of my stories. If you do want to archive it, you can pm me, show me where it's going and I'll get back to you with a yay or nay.
3 - Story requests. Not taking any on. Way too busy. But thanks for thinking of me anyway.
4-Flame me or grumble at me. Too busy. Plus ... It's only fan fiction, not something that puts food on the table and pays the bills. Act like an adult. If you don't like the pairing, don't read stories about them. Be responsible for your actions and don't whinge to others because they enjoy something you don't. No one likes a controlling bully.
5-Tell me about the importance of Gary Stues & Mary Sues. I "personally" think the whole concept is a load of rubbish invented to control rather then aid but if that's what readers and writers think helps them, fine with me.
And now for the rest of zee profile!
Me in general
- Fairly strict feminist. I don't hate men, I just know I can be complete without a man in my life.
- I dislike obsessive "fan girl" behaviour, The petty and cruel attacks on those who try to make them see sense followed by the alienating of those who care and respect them, it makes me so sad. If you know someone who is taking their admiration for a public figure too seriously, tell them to get help. They'll hate you for it, but hopefully they'll thank you later.
Message to the obsessive fan girl or guy. Remember that the chances that the person you are supporting, loving, may never see you for the wonderful person you are and that you need to find a way to build a strong and supportive network of friends who can love and support you in ways the person you are idolising cannot because that is what you deserve.
-Smoking, ugh! Never smoked in my life, never will!
-I love being non conservative and completely and utterly politically incorrect!
-I love horses!
-I'd rather be kind and generous then realistic and serious.
-I have voted for and will continue to vote for Labor
-I would love to live and work in the UK.
I must confess that I am not the greatest writer in the world but I do try to make my stories as easy to read as possible and, of course, enjoyable for the reader and myself.
I used to believe in Mary Sues and thought that I had to write to suit the standards of others. Now I know that that is a load of bollocks! From now on I will write to please me and my original characters will turn out the way I believe they should. If people do not like it ... So tempted to type that they can sod off but that would be too mean.
I'll type this instead.
If you do not like the way I write. To each their own. And If you do not like what I write, to each their own, as well.
I'll happily admit that I used to think reviews were really important. The stuff of life! Now I know they're not. It's sharing stories with others that counts. Who cares if your story gets 0 reviews? Just post & share. Life is far too short and there are too many important things to worry about such as mortgage, friends, family, studying, travelling, bills and rent.
Be realistic. Do you want a million fic reviews or do you want a roof over your head and a good job?
I'm taking fun out of everything, aren't I, lol! I don't mean, don't ask for feedback, that's fine if it's what you want, but don't feel disheartened if feedback doesn't come your way, it's not the end of the world at all.
Some writing tips. Please understand that although these work for me, they may not suit everyone.
I learnt how to write by reading and being read to. I have read a lot of Classic British books and Tolkien and Elyne Mitchell. personally, I truly believe if you want to write, the are the best thing for you. There is so much detail and the language is just gorgeous. Their stories flow like silk.
This may not be your cup of tea though. You may prefer other writers. It is a matter of what works for you.
How to keep characters in character
1-Imagine the character saying the lines you want them to say in their own voice. If you can hear them say it and it sounds in character, you are going in the right direction.
What do I look for in a male character?
1-Badness. I like my boys bad.
2-A need to be redeemed. I like redeeming the baddies!
3-A wicked sense of humour.
4-Shades of grey. Not the book. I'm typing about development. I cannot stand "nice" under-developed males. They drive me up the flipping wall. Fantasy wise, I do not like "nice" puncy, preachy guys. I love em dark and twisted. Realistically, nice is good.
5-An idea of what the female of the story is looking for. For me, most of the time, it's the baddie who seems to understand the female character a lot more then the goodie.
6-Bit of arrogance. I love arrogance :)
What do I look for in a female character?
1-Guts. I love a tough female.
2-Again, shades of grey
4-Again, a sense of humour
5-Knowledge of what she wants.
6-Inhibated. This is fantastic for plots.
I also find weak willed women interesting because you can do things for them in order to make them stronger, provided you do keep them in character unless this is an Oc.

Authors who influence me.
My beliefs, just incase anyone is curious, they do influence what I write.
1- I support abortion because I believe it is a woman's right
2 - I do not follow any religion
3- I am a fairly strict feminist. Trying to keep that on a reasonable level but sometimes men really make me cranky.
4- I think it is unfair, in the Robin Hood BBC fandom, to put down the female characters. They were prisoners of their circumstances and had it a lot harder then the male. Therefore, unless it is good for the story or interesting to read. I prefer to avoid that type of story telling.
5- The whole Mary and Gary- you know what I'm on about, lol!
6- A happy ending is not always satisfying. An honest well rounded one is. I actually prefer tragic endings but variety is good.
7- it is OK to let your friends BETA for you provided they "are" honest.
8-I will never write about under age content. Unless it is vital to the plot, there is no reason why the author cannot male their fic AU
About my writing habits
I'm fairly meticulous when it comes to writing. I focus on keeping the characters in character unless I write a humour fic or a really au one. I admit that I am so careful about the way I write it takes a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time for me to update. I'm also prone to taking down my work and revising it.
I only write in UK or Australian English. I can't train myself to write in American English. I'm not being racist by the way, I simply cannot make myself do it.
Two of my dearest friends BETA for me and I would be no where without them.
I love to use Italics and Bold in my stories. This annoys some readers but like I've stated before, If you don't like it, read a story that doesn't have bold and italics. I also tend to plot jump. I do that because it makes writing and revising my fic just that wee bit easier.
When I write a story set in a medieval or period before say ... the 20th century, I avoid anything modern unless it fits the character or if it's a humour fic or if it's a very AU story.
My stories evolve around women rather then men. I find writing from the perspective of a woman more fulfilling. I also sympathise and empathise more towards women then men, not that I hate them, well there are a few I've been unable to stomach, I just find women more interesting.
Things I've learnt on FF.net and other fic writing sites
The hardest thing about writing I find is that people want you to write to their standards, not your own. Don't write to please them. Sure, edit it, make it easy to read. Get a nice even flow. But write to please yourself and forget about the idiots who flame you because they are to childish to hit the "back" button when it dawns on them that they don't like the story. Also, if someone offers you some advice, take it into consideration. It may really help your story flourish. If it doesn't work with your idea. Turn it down graciously. That part, sadly, I still have a wee bit of trouble with :)
What ticks me off in fan fiction
I’d like to point out that if you are from the UK or USA and notice that my spelling and grammar are different, that is because I am Australian and I write using Australian English, not UK English, not US English but Australian English. It can be a tad annoying when someone tells you that your work is riddled with mistakes when it is not as riddled as they claim it to be.
People who complain about your story in an anon-still can't spell it, lol!-and don't bother to leave a contact email. Doing that is just plain cowardly.
I hate the terms "Is all" and "And all" and finally "Feelings for" They are so ... Disgusting!-ok, disgusting is a bit strong, so they just make me really cranky because they are inaccurate. Oh, and "Yous and Cold/warm out" as well. And finally ..."Ways/Anyways should be "Way" or "Anyway" Also, what the hell is "Where's he at?"
Phew, more peeves!
Bad spelling! Eeek!
Anti gay readers. Ok, it is your right to not like slash, but do you need to be so mean? Just accept that when it comes to pairings, you can't control people.
Rushed stories! ARRGH!! I hate them! They're too hard to enjoy. Please slow down! Add description, develop your characters! Etc, etc.
Modernisims in non modern fic!
I'm also sick and tired of shipper wars. What ever happened to choice, ppl?
Female character bashing. We are entitled to have an opinion, but why do we have to be so aggressive?
People whinging to me about how depressing my stories are-I love depressing stories and the more you ask me to write happy endings or chapters, the sadder they will become. This is not to spite people at all, I just prefer misery sometimes to fluff.
"Please up date soon!" Nope. Shan't. The chappies are up when they are actually ready, not before. But I am glad you're enjoying the fics.
This whole "Mary/Gary Sue" thing-again. Quite frankly I couldn't care less about it and refuse to believe in them, but others do so to each their own. If you do not know what a Mary, Gary Sue is. It is, to put it quite plainly, an original character too good to be true.
Ok, sounded a wee bit cranky there. I'm only human, lol! But. no one is above constructive Criticisim, but we are all above being flamed. I will stick by that till I bloody well die!
