This, indeed, is probably one of the Enemy's motives for creating a dangerous world—a world in which moral issues really come to the point. He sees as well as you do that courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means, at the point of highest reality. A chastity or honesty, or mercy, which yields to danger will be chaste or honest or merciful only on conditions. Pilate was merciful till it became risky.
You ask, What is our policy? I will say; “It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.” You ask, What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.
Being the story of a 40 something historian who occasionally writes fanfic to escape the joys of the annotated minutes of the House of Commons. Rightly or wrongly, much of my desire to finish up these stories has been flagging, due in part to the nature of some stories that seem to be in vogue today. It's a bit difficult to gather energy to finish stories that yes, are in part for the kids and teens who enjoyed the series when you realize that due to the nature of some of the stories currently on, it'd be unwise to suggest Fanfiction net to those with pre-teen or even younger teenage children.
It's a bit of a shame, there's good stuff here, but that is, I suppose the price of an essentially unmoderated archive. Whether or not they ever are finished, I do wish to thank all those who have so kindly provided reviews.
