For Project Compassion, here it goes...
Okay everyone. I am offering a wide spread project compassion challenge. Share on your page if you intend to complete it comment when it's been done.
1) Do 3 things that are nice for other people. It could be something simple of something big
2) ESPECIALLY for those of you who know people who could benefit from learning compassion spread the word about it and encourage who need to know
3) Give an advantage to someone who doesn't have it-- someone who maybe has an obstacle in t...he way. Remember when you show compassion to one person you're showing compassion to many because all of those people who need a hand up have people who love them and can benefit from that too)
4) This is especially valuable for the people who make plans. Make plans to do something positive (for example volunteering in a soup kitchen/orphanage/hospital etc)
5) Work together even if you don't see eye to eye with each other. Everyone has something to bring to the table
6) Do something nice for yourself. Remember you have value too
After a discussion with an online friend I have been thinking a lot about logic vs. emotion. The truth is that both of them are important. Let me explain. Suppose you are a gardener. You plant a seed. The seed will eventually grow into a flower but the seed needs dirt and sunlight (in this case logic) and food and water (in this case emotion)
Now suppose that you give the seed only dirt and sunlight. The seed has mo...re then enough of it's fill of logic and believe me it needs dirt and sunlight (logic). but without water and food it is going to dry up and thin out. It will not be a healthy plant and it will eventually fizzle out and die. On the flip side suppose you give the seed only water and food. It needs water. It needs food. What it doesn't need is saturation of water and food. It needs enough water and food to sustain it. But without the dirt or sunlight it will shrivel up and die
The seed refers to a person going through a tough time. You can be the gardener even though you didn't plant the seed. The challenge for this month is to provide both sunlight, dirt AND food water to the person in need. Maybe you think "I don't have time to do that" but the truth is it only takes a few minutes. Think of yourself being the seed. You're cold and someone provides you sunlight. You're out in the thunderstorm and someone provides you shelter. But at the same time you're scared (thirsty) and confused (hungry) and nobody can provide you answers (food) or reassurance (water) or they provide you food and water but cannot provide you warmth and shelter till the storm passes. Be there for that seed. Spend five minutes talking to a friend, relative or person in need. Let them get things off their chest. If you have any ideas that might help them let them know and give them the resources to do so. You see, one day you might be that seed and you would want food, water, dirt and sunlight too.
This is something everyone needs to hear. What I'm going to talk to you about today is three fold and I ask that everyone take the time to share on your page.
It is very important to trust yourself. That means to follow your own instincts about what is right and what is wrong. How many of you have had other people tell you that the way you think is wrong? Probably everyone. People try to influence other people. Sometimes that ca...n be a very good thing. Sometimes it can be a bad thing instead. So, yes listen to what other people say but ultimately you have to make the decision that you know is best. Don't let other people make you doubt yourself. Think of peer pressure for example. We think of it as something teenagers go through but it's something you will go through all your lives. I remember reading an article once about a group of people who thought it was alright to treat other people cruelly simply to pressure them into thinking the way they do and acting the way they do. Come on. Let's use some common sense. By no stretch of the imagination is it okay or acceptable to be mean to other people. I'm not suggesting that you have picked on people but if you are like anyone else you have been subjected to peer pressure and influences that are both positive and negative. That is why today I issue you a challenge. It is a challenge that is more of an invitation. I invite you to take the negative influences and say goodbye to them. Walk away from whatever you are being pressured by. Simply decide that a negative influence is not one you chose to be a part of Here is what you may be thinking. If I walk away won't I be rejected? Well let me ask you something. If you have to do things that you know are wrong such as drugs or pressuring other people by being mean to them etc what is it to be accepted? Is it really worth it to be accepted by a group of people or an influence who doesn't value who you are? You are capable of so many things. Everyone has gifts. Maybe you are very good at writing or maybe you are scientifically gifted. Maybe you have a whole lot of compassion and understanding. Maybe you know how to make people smile through the worst times of their life. Whatever your gift is make plans to share it in ways that will be appreciated. If you're a good cook, volunteer to cook in a soup kitchen. If you are good in math or science tutor a child who doesn't know math and science. Make it easier for him or her to understand it. If you're good at organization help someone who isn't so good at it get organized. There are so many things you can do that the possibilities are endless. I invite you to do that. I also invite you to learn from other people. Think of people as a buffet dinner. Everyone has something to bring to the table. Focus on the "food" that is good and cut out the ones that are sour.
Thank you, very much
