Type of stories found here:
Mostly alternative universes with possible crossovers. The only type of stories you'll find are either yaoi (malexmale, boys love) or no pairings at all.
Yaoi/shounen-ai, Fantasy, Supernatural, Adventure, Action, Friendship, Comedy.
Dislike genres/things in stories:
Tragedy, harem, open/unresolved endings, rape myth, Mary Sue, cliché, pointless swearing unless it's in the character's nature, Mary sue, author's note popping out in the middle of a story to ruin it, Mary sue and Mary sue.
Things I simply can't stand when reading (AKA My Ranting Board):
I don't like how people throw names together like for example; Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze. This doesn't even make sense. What is in the world is Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze? How are you supposed to spell that in Japanese?
Japanese: ナルトうずまき波風 (Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze)
Has anyone ever seen Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji all in one name? Where in Japan would you find someone with a name that long and complicated?
I see this so much that I can't help but feel frustrated and have to write down. This is the same as having an English first name, with a nickname in Arabic, then an Asian last name and spelling all these names in their respective language.
In Japan, there are no such thing as shoving both parents' surnames together. It can't be done, period. You can't even use that middle part as a middle name because in their naming system, there are no such thing as a middle name. It isn't because people think it's dumb, it's because it cannot exist. It's just impossible. Their names doesn't work the same way as English names.
I hate it when people never do any research and just shove things together because they think other cultures work the same as theirs or seen other people do it. Longer name doesn't make the character cooler, it's the opposite. Long name makes the character sound dumb. It makes me extremely uncomfortable reading it since the annoyingly long name makes no sense and only proves as a huge distraction. It also feels like something only a Mary Sue/Gary Stue character would have.
"Blah blah" - Talking
'Blah Blah' - Thought
"Blah blah" - Flashback
"Blah Blah" - Telepathically speaking through mind
I never get the reason behind this. Is it really that hard to waste a second or two in the story to express all this to the readers? If the story's good enough, people will naturally get it. If they don't, then that means the author has some writing problem if readers can't tell between speech and thought. If that happens, then I doubt these indications would help much as no one would remember once they start getting into the story.
Another thing I frequently sees and can't stand is the main character blabbering out his/her entire life story that no one asked for. Here's an example of what I mean:
Random person: "So what brings you to to a small town like this?"
Protagonist: "Well, my parents died when I was just five, so I live with my relatives from my mother's side. They don't like me very well so ever since young they made me do all of their chores and their daughter bullies me all the time. Just recently my uncle got a job here so here I am, on my way home from buying groceries so I can make dinner before six o'clock or suffering another beating."
...Ok, I admit I may have exaggerated that a little, but it's not that far off from what I've seen some people do. When they do this, the protagonist always have a "tragic" background. So when writers pull something like this, it could only mean either of these two things if not both:
1) They are lazy and doing this is the quickest way to establish their character's background.
2) Short cut to get other characters to pity the protagonist.
I don't see how this is appealing the protagonist in any ways. Seriously, think about it. If you meet this kind of person in real life, I'm pretty sure anyone would want to punch that person in the face. It's a horrible attempt at getting sympathy from other people.
Melancholy characters, characters with sad abusive backgrounds...I'm sure everyone at least read a story or two with these kinds of protagonists. I have nothing against them, infact I've written these kind of characters as well.
But...please for the reader's sake decide on exactly what kind of personality that character is supposed to have! I've read this so many times in fact I just read another one so I needed to write this down and get this off my chest.
Let's say our protagonist is a rare male omega just for the sake of making this example easier to understand. For anyone that don't know, male omega is basically a guy that can give birth.
Let's say that omega escaped slavery where he was abused by alphas and is scared of letting people find out his omega status let alone what he had gone through.
So, our main character lived a "technically carefully" life so he won't be found out about being an omega and forced to bond with an alpha. The alpha (protagonist's future love interest) said some wrong things about without realising and the protagonist threw a hug fit. They because of some reason on that very same day they had to spend the night together! And what do you know, the protagonist, due to his "past", is scared of sleeping alone and asked for the ALPHA (reminder: the protagonist came from a slavery where alphas abused him) he just yelled at to sleep with him!
And surprise! Our omega got nightmares of his past and the alpha was just right there to witness it!
And surprise again! His omega status is revealed! Wonder how that happened...
Then turns out the omega can't stand a day without cutting himself because he "deserved it". For someone that want all these "secrets" to remain secrets, he cut himself with the alpha under the same roof and what do you know, more secrets came out!
An then the protagonist continued to try and distant himself because he "doesn't deserve happiness" while the alpha (now suspecting things), want to get even closer to the "mysterious" omega. Then the omega got pregnant! But he doesn't "deserve that alpha" and disappeared without telling the alpha about the kid! And then of course they meet again and the alpha finally captured the omega and demand to know why he disappeared blah blah blah.
...It's so melodramatic that I don't even know what to feel.
First the protagonist hate the guy because he said something wrong, then he want that guy to sleep with him because he's scared? Where's the logic in that?! If you can't sleep alone then don't sleep, it's not like one night of lack of sleep will kill you. I would pull two all nighters than sleeping in the same bed with a complete stranger that I technically don't trust.
It almost sounded like that omega is doing this on purpose. These kinds of characters doesn't sound like they really want to hide their pasts or secrets. They're practically screaming "Hey, look at me! Look how sad and broken I am! You pity me right? You want to nurture me back to normal and show me how I deserve to be loved right? Well then, what are you waiting for?! I'm 100% avalible!"
It's more like a story of a scheming gold digger because the love interest in these kinds of stories are always some rich people with powers in their hands. It's like using some tsundere technique to pip the guy's interest because we all know by acting as though you don't care about money or status equals to attracting every billionaires' or his royal highness's attentions. Then once you got that person interested in you, use your sob past to capture that guy's heart because who doesn't love insecure people that went through unimaginable hardships?
"But I'm not special...I'm just...me."
I want to bang my head against the table every time I read this line. Not only is this overused and cliche, it makes no sense! What is the point of this speech anyways? If you really think you're ordinary, you don't say something that's obviously trying to get other people to compliment you. If the other person actually said, "yeah, you're nothing special", then I bet the person who said this line would look like he/she had swallowed a caterpillar because obviously that's not a response they expected.
Things I will not tolerate:
Flames - I'm a Yaoi writer and I will always make it clear in every one of my stories' summary. I will also label proper warnings so there should be no confusions. That's why I will not tolerate any use of foul languages or self-righteous people who think they can judge what other people can and cannot write.
Copyrights - The only other places you can find my stories are my Tumblr page (link above) and the username Yellow_Canna from Archive of Our Own. These are the only two other accounts I have. My stories should not be found anywhere else or on any other sites. If anyone sees stories similar to mine, I would be extremely grateful if you could notify me about it.
