Now, for a few things that get my goat about fandom:
In General: DON'T, for the love of God, try to pass off your fanfiction as a supposed 'creative story' and then rip off someone else's work. I can't stand it, and quite frankly, it shows a lack of faith in one's own ability. I had the misfortune of coming across an interesting sounding fanfic just a short time ago-- for decency's sake-- I'm not naming said fic, but they had written a pretty interesting summary about the fic's contents, and I was also excited about reading it because it also centered on two of my favorite characters from Ouran. It was supposed to be a story about them, and an illegit child they had had, but as I read the first chapter, I began to realize that maybe, just maybe, it was only going to be about the child. Which would've been okay if she wouldn't have ripped off the Hannah Montana storyline and tried to pass off as her own. teardrops So much potential, and yet she decided to stick to what someone else has already written and call it her own. So please, don't disappoint your readers by doing this. :(
P.S. I also skimmed through about have the story to see if she ever decided to focus on the reason I picked it up in the first place and she dedicated a paragraph to tell two years worth of back story. A paragraph...
Avatar: The Last Airbender:
--AangxZuko Pairing or AangxAzula-- If I see one more story with this pairing I'll probably scream. Seriously? They were both his mortal enemies at one point. One of them still is-- even if she's in a 'mental rehabilitation' center. And just because Zuko and Aang are friends now doesn't mean they suddenly have romantic chemistry.
--KataraxAzula Pairing-- Really? This can work? My, my what imaginations.
--About Sam-- She's a Goth, not an Emo. Get it right. There are differences. And I'm tired of reading about Sam suddenly becoming some kind of slasher-cry-myself-to-sleep-I hate-life kind of person. She's actually quite optimistic when you think about it.
--Danny x Any Villain-- I actually have stumbled upon a lot of these for some reason. Does the word 'villain' mean anything to you?
--Danny x Alter-ego Pairing-- Believe it or not, unless you physically split Danny up in your story, this really isn't possible, yet somehow, they are finding ways to make this 'work'. It's like being in love with yourself-- who does that? And I'm not talking about the whole 'confidence-believe-in-yourself kind of love...
--KimxShego Pairing-- Argh, somehow, I can see how people would lean towards it, but it irks me to no end.
--RonxKim Pairing-- They got together in "So the Drama". Get over yourselves and quit having them break-up over something random and stupid. People who've had a relationship that long don't just suddenly not get along and hate each others guts. It's a lot of little things built up over time, so quit taking the easy way out and actually work on your story in a creative way.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic:
Ouran High School Host Club:
--About Tamaki-kun-- I'll admit that he can be dense beyond all belief, he often bursts into fits of uncontrolled emotion-- positive and negative-- and he always tends to be overdramatic, but please quit using the caps lock button before it breaks. He doesn't yell every sentence, and he's only dense because he likes to think the best of everyone, not because he's actually stupid-- maybe a little stupid-- but I'm tired of Tamaki being made into someone who's just a bumbling idiot and nothing more!! What about all of his good quality traits? Why not add those into the mix every once in awhile? And Tamaki's only the normal amount of selfish, not so over-the-top selfish that he whines like a baby all the time. And please, come up with more creative language for the blonde beaut's speeches than just 'beautiful' or 'wonderful' fifteen million times.
--About Haru-chan-- Haruhi is a smart girl. She can be pretty dense, like Tamaki, but please quit making her into a total idiot. If she were really as stupid acting, or sounding as some of you write her, do you really think that she'd be at Ouran at all? We all know that Haruhi like ootoro, and that she's afraid of thunder, but there's more to her than that. I'm so tired of every pairing fic using nature to push her onto some guy. Argh, and if she has one more random outburst I might just cry-- Haruhi is always pretty calm and collected. It would take a lot, A LOT, for her to scream at the top of her lungs. Even then, I doubt Haruhi would scream. I just don't see it. Really, she likes being with the Host Club, they're her friends now. So please quit trying to make everything they do such an annoyance to her. The Host Club's antics can be irritating to her sometimes, but there is a line between what's 'funny/harmless irritation' and what's 'just plain irritating' to her-- and reader included.
--HikaruxKarou Twincest-- Okay I've been reading a lot of OHSHC fanfiction lately and gosh, is a good in-character story hard to find. :o I know it's fun to play with characters and such, but I absolutely can't stand it when writers make the Twins in love with each other in a sexual way. They act that way for the Club, and they think it's amusing to tease and confuse other people this way on a daily basis. Argh, if they were REALLY in love with each other, then they wouldn't have been on the brink of throwing their relationship away in favor of fighting over Haruhi.
--HunnyxMori Pairing-- They are cousins with a close relationship. Not everything has to be sexual, perverts. :p
--TamakixKyouya's Friendship-- Letting their relationship dip into some kind of homosexual one has never really bothered me because there have been a few times where Kyouya's had me guessing. However, what bothers me is when writers don't make them act like friends at all. Kyouya breaks his neck to keep everything running smoothly-- Heaven knows Tamaki's too forgetful and dramatic to keep up with everything-- so why would he stick around unless he was good friends with Tamaki? I know Kyouya's father told him to befriend the Chairman's son initially, but as everyone can plainly see that Kyouya has 'befriended' other people important to the family business and yet you don't see him constantly following them around to make sure they stay on good terms. Tamaki changed the dark-haired boy's view on the life he thought he had to live. That isn't soon forgotten.
--HaruhixKyouya Pairing-- There are a couple things wrong with this pairing. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, I know, that includes me too. :p Anyway, for the most part, the two of them have only displayed a sense of interest in one another's opinion-- ie. "That's an interesting view."-- they tend to say that a lot. Some people that he has suppressed feelings for the brunette, and even Hunny-senpai commented on it, but if you look at how the characters are paralleled to each other then, even if he does like her, he's going to 'suppress his desire' and let Tamaki have her because it's the same thing Karou (who's parallel to Kyouya) did for Hikaru because his brother (his best friend) is more important to him. I'll admit this one's a long shot. Make me believe it could work and then I might read this pairing but other than that, I'll pass.
--About Beast Boy-- Alright, I'll admit it: it's really fun and can sometimes produce funny results when a writer makes Beast Boy into a complete idiot. But quite frankly, he isn't so, so quit writing him that way. Beast Boy can be deep, and intellectually astute when he wants to be-- he's proved himself time and time again-- granted he isn't as intelligent as Cyborg, or Robin, and especially not Raven-- but there is a difference between a person who is stupid, and a person just pretends to be dim-witted. Also, I've noticed that writers tend to cling to the fact that Tofu is theonly thing Beast Boy will eat-- it's tiring when you keep reading about a vegan only eating tofu-- there are plenty of alternatives to meat and animal products such as organic foods, and imagine that, salad. Tofu pancakes? WTF? He also likes sweets if I remember correctly, and yet no one ever writes that in.
--About Raven-- She seems to be the character everyone likes to bend as much as possible. I'm all for it-- like her change and grow-- but keep in mind-- it doesn't happen overnight or in an idle fashion. Ah, and the use of Nevermore has become quite obsessive. I know I've mentioned it in a few of my stories, but that's all the further I go with it: mentioning. I'm tired of all these field trips into the empath's mind, we know how it is, etc. Quit kicking a dead cow please. :d
--About Robin-- He's a dedicated and determined person. Not a sociopath, a murderer, or lame-ass super strict person who only aggravates his teammates-- it they didn't like him, why would they be on the team in the first place? And he would never rape Starfire. Not only because he would have to be mentally unstable to try that, and also because physically, he wouldn't be strong enough to-- unless he doped her up, but let's not go there...
--About Terra-- A lot, a lot, a lot of people can't see past her betrayal and see that she did have good traits, and contributed to the team. So quit demonizing her, and quit making her the reason BB and Rae-Rae can't be together. Boys chose who they want to be with and no one and nothing is going to change their mind. If Beast Boy wanted to be Terra, he would, same with Raven, so quit making it into some kind of weird competition for his "confused" heart. He would be able to make up his mind. I'm pretty sure he knows what he wants.
--Pairings-- I've actually become very open-minded about relationships in the Titans Universe. I still tend to like RaexBB, RobxStar, however. And the occasional RaexSpeedy fic is alright. But no Titan should ever be paired with Slade or any other villain for that matter unless they had some magical change of heart like Jinx did.
--About Firestar-- His overzealous desire to help all of the Clans can get annoying after awhile, but quit killing Firestar because it annoys you. And quite killing him in such easy and contrite ways, like he's a kit that's never fought before in his life.
--About Tigerstar-- He's an interesting character, the only anatagonist as far as cats go, and probably one of the few three-dimensional characters in the whole series. Yes, the whole series. Most of the cats are very two-dimensional and don't think for themselves. It's the drawback of Clanlife I suppose. But Jaypaw is getting there, I must say. Tigerstar is a bad cat, don't get me wrong, but don't make him into a stupid murderer. He had a plan, he always has a plan, he doesn't just kill needlessly, so keep that in mind when you write him.
--About Original Characters-- Quit making lame-ass cats that don't contribute to the plot line or contribute in general. Considering how many people hate Firestar, they seems to be quite a lot of look-a-likes. Please be original, and not such an amazing Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu that no one wants to read your work. And stop with the obvious prophecies, and overused names for that matter.
