It's finally done and I've now been living in the new house since mid-October, so I sadly missed out on getting to enjoy the last bits of Swedish summer and instead moved in during the gray, windy and rainy autumn. But even dark and dreary nature outside the door is certainly more conductive for writing then street-light lit asphalt. Been off work with a cold for a few days, fortunately not Covid unless the test results are somehow wrong, but that gave me the chance to unpack and rearrange the last of the mess left from the move. With that whole business now over, I returned my attention to Gamer Neighbour. Chapter 18 was pretty much finished and last-minute tinkering done with back in July, but getting back to it now, I did some additional tweaks to it. Now I'm just making sure that future chapters are compatible with my tweaks, then I'll run it through a spellcheck and set it aside for uploading on friday or saturday. I pondered preparing a second chapter, but have mostly abandoned that notion. Chapter 18 is a near 80 kilobyte monstrosity anyway, so it's more then the usual chapters already. Then again, it does end on what Nick finally decides to do about the broken Gamer system. Does it go bye-bye forever or does it stay and get help? Was incredibly tempted to do a cliffhanger since the chapter was running long, but decided against it. So enjoy, no more need to ponder which direction I am going to go in in regards to the system being there or not. Haven't done any x-mas shopping at all, been too busy with house shit, so in addition to that and work, I'm not sure how much time and energy will remain for fanfiction over the next couple of weeks, but my guess is not a whole lot, if any. I'll try to clean up chapter 19 for either x-mas or new years, that should be manageable even with my shitty ability to set workable deadlines. 2022 January 1st - Evening Well, just above 20 hours into the new year for me. Really relaxing day, just been cooking, cleaning, reading and listening to music while recovering from yesterday. Pretty tame festivities, no truly big parties in these parts what with the current pandemic still making a mess of things. But tame or not, excessive amounts of beer, wine, whisky and schnapps is part and parcel of the day anyway. Also managed final tweaks and spellchecking on chapter 19. Nearly 70 kB's worth of text, so another fairly long chapter. Still a few left until the World Cup and a few more still before Hogwarts, but we're getting there. Not sure how my schedule for january actually looks yet. I'm supposed to work reduced hours, but I've been supposed to work reduced hours for the lions share of 2021 as well, which just didn't happen. But I haven't heard anything from my boss or gotten a new schedule, so I strongly suspect I'll be buried in work for a while longer. But at least the house is done, so I should be able to sneak in a bit of writing from time to time. We'll see, but I suspect that chapter 20 will drop at the end of January. 2022 March 3rd - Evening Hm, of the last 3 updates, 2 have been while I've been sick and 1 while faintly hung-over. Seems to be a pattern. Spent a few days at home again thanks to a fever, once again no covid. Must have gotten extra-strong vaccine or something, since just about everyone around me has had it at least once at this point. Sadly people being sick at work means more work for me, which means less energy left for fanfiction when I get back home. Heck, the only times I've had my computer turned on the last six weeks or so have been when I've had to pay my bills. Anyway, haven't done much while being home going from sweating like heck or freezing my arse off, but now when that's more or less over with from the feel of things, I did have some spare energy which I used to clean up chapter 20. Hopefully I'll have some energy left over the next couple of days too, as I think this is one of the rare few times since I started uploading GN where an update is larger then the amount of words written since the last update. I've grown to like having a buffer and really dislike the feeling of it shrinking, even if I'm still a bit ahead of things. I would like to think that the next update will be at the end of the month, but looking back at january and february, I can't really say that I expect much of a difference in march. So unless people miraculously stop getting sick, I fear that what little energy remains probably won't be spent on fanfiction. Time will tell. END OF NOTES I am past my fortieth year on this planet and will soon enough be closer to fifty years then I am to fourty. A Swedish fanfiction freak who spends a bit of time now and then reading and writing fanfiction. I do have a life outside of fanfiction however, so don't go expecting my stories to be updated with any sort of regularity. If I have to chose between spending time with my loved ones or sit cooped up in front of my computer writing fanfiction, I'll chose my loved ones nearly every single time. If a story of mine ends with "THE END! ( For now... )" it means that it's not finished yet and that at least one more chapter will be making an appearance, sooner or later... ... Most probably later, much later, considering my erratic updating shedule. :) So don't even bother pleading for rapid updates as I have a life outside of fanfiction and have no desire to put the former aside for the later. If it ends with "THE END!" without the "( For now... )" it means, surprisingly enough, The End. No more to add on this particular story, unless I write a sequel or something somewhere down the line. |
